Toyota to add new RWD Corolla

  news

The AE86 generation of the Toyota Corolla Levin and Toyota Sprinter Trueno wass a small, lightweight coupe introduced by Toyota in 1983 as part of the fifth generation Toyota Corolla line-up. For the purpose of brevity, the insider-chassis code of "AE86" is used to describe the whole range. In classic Toyota code, the "A" represents the engine that came in the car (the 4A) and the E86 represents the 6th revision of the fifth generation (E80 series) of the E model which is the Corolla.

The AE86 was discontinued in 1987, but now that Toyota has no sports cars left in its lineup, it seems that the old car will come back to life. The car will weigh under 1,000 kgs and will be powered by a 1.5 liter 2NZ-FE that may produce 120 horsepower.

There are no info if the car will get to US market, but pricing is expected to be around $12,300.

This is interesting news. What with Hyundai announcing a new rear drive coupe? The info you got, though Simona, was a bit incorrect. The 2NZ-FE is a 1.3L, it’s the 1NZ-FE that’s the 1.5L. Even so, This car will be a waste with that engine. In true memory of the migthy 4AGE powerplants that many of these cars came with, it should have nothing less than a 1.8L 1ZZ-FE with 140hp.
