With this models Maserati will resume the collaboration with Alfa Rome.
The model will remain a classic coupe with two real rear seats.
Rumored engines include a 4.3 L V8 (revised 4.2, 400 bhp), a 5.0 L V8 engine producing 470 bhp (a bored-up 4.2), and a Ferrari-612 sourced 5.4 L V12 engine (540 bhp). Even a V6 Biturbo (approx. 400 bhp) based on the new V6 of the Alfa Romeo 159 is being considered.
A surprize is prepared also,a 2+2 coupe-cabrio for 2009.It will be designed by Pininfarina, and the base-price is about 100 000$,competing head-on with the Mercedes SL.
The new car’s body will be made from carbon composites and aluminum, while the shifter will be a new paddle-activated sequential manual six-speed from ZF,with a six-speed manual as standard.
Suspension will be borrowed from the Quattroporte, a double wishbones and electronic adaptive dampers all around.
It seems that the names will be different, Maserati may use names inspired from the past models.
So we may have a Mistral and a Merak going on sale in July of 2007.
