When I say Porsche->ke1, 400 horsepower and 167 mph in the same sentence, you wouldn’t bat an eye. But what if I also said 90 mpg and seating for four? That is what the Porsche Panamera S e-Hybrid is promising, and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

In this video from the XCAR team, Alex Goy puts this impressive machine through its paces to really decide if it deserves to wear that hybrid badge->ke4488, or the Porsche one for that matter. Considering that many people already dislike the Panamera->ke1840 due to its four-door ways, it might be fighting an uphill battle.

Now I won’t ruin what Alex thinks, but for my money there are some serious caveats to the Panamera Hybrid and its ridiculous numbers. For starters that 90 mpg rating is on the UK cycle. Thanks to the way the U.S. handles MPGe ratings, there is no way that will convert over, but seeing something close to 75 mpg sounds likely. Second, this car is a plug-in hybrid. That means it has a battery that can be charged just like a Nissan Leaf->ke3484 or the Chevy Volt->ke2721. If that battery is completely flat when you set off from home, your mileage will fall drastically.

Still, this is a Porsche and still has more than 400 horsepower, so it could never really be that bad. Even if it only got 35 mpg I’d be game to bomb around in a 167 mph machine.

You always know how to make me happy, Porsche.
