Formula One's return to American soil is scheduled for 2012, but as of now, the site that's going to host the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas is still nothing more than just a patch of dirt with no resemblance of the actual race track.

Deadline’s a little under two years away so we can only hope that they’re already doing something to break ground on the site. The plan was for that to start happening last December and to their credit, they seem to have made their target after construction equipment was spotted in the land before the year ended. Let’s just hope that with the constrained timetable, they’ll be able to work hard enough to finish the track before the summer of 2012, around the time the F1 circus hits the US once again.

If you’re looking for any updates on the track, the Statesman has released a video reporting the progress being made on the track with a few sound bytes from the construction crew that’s already hard at work in laying the ground for the future Formula One race track.
