Video: Corvette ZR1 laps the Nurburgring in 7:63, taking six seconds off its previous run

Back in 2008, a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 driven by General Motors development engineer, Jim Mero, ran its way around the Nürburgring in a time of 7:26.4 . Now, a 2012 ZR1 equipped with new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires has tackled that same run, eclipsing the time set in 2008 by more than six seconds. The ZR1’s new time of 7:19.63 gets that much closer to the record holding 7:18 run of the Porsche GT2 RS, but more importantly, provides the Corvette with ammo against the Dodge Viper ACR (7.19 seconds), the Nissan GTR (7:26.7), Ferrari Enzo (7:25.21), and the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport (7:24.44).

For 2012, the Corvette ZR1 is powered by a 6.2 Liter LS9 aluminum block V8 engine with a total of 638 hp at 6500 rpm and 604 lb.- ft. of torque at 3800 rpm. With this output the ZR1 can hit an impressive top speed of 205 mph.

Whew, that was fast! I clearly saw how did Porsche and Corvette blown and made their own record in just a few seconds! I’m well entertained. Can’t wait for more race.

This is such an incredible clip! I never thought that Dodge Viper ACR finished the race at only 7.19 seconds which brought the best record for Porsche for 7:18! However, Corvette only gets closer just a few seconds.

Yeah, I would agree with that one. If you are a carmaker and you really want to show how well your car performs, then you really have to take it for a lap around the track.

Well now, that one is certainly good news. It seems that they are really doing a lot to improve the ZR1’s design. Good thing, since it means that Chevrolet is keeping its promise.

Nurburgring is really the perfect place to test your Corvette ZR1. This only shows that Corvette ZR1 has a better performance than their old one.

I wonder which car would be able to pull this one off again in the Nurburgring track. Well, since the whole thing is really an ongoing one, I am pretty much sure that there would be a car that can break thre record here.

How amazing! I amazed how they take the run in six seconds only? Well, that’s the spirit of true car which is Chevrolet Corvette ZR1!

Sound so surprising knowing that this car has close record with the Dodge Viper? Recently, I have watched a race between the Corvette Z06 and CCXR. I still can’t get over the fact that Z06 wins over the 1000 horsepower of the CCXR. I think this car performs the same with the Z06.

They finally got the ZR1 to access most of its power on the tack. It can still be faster than it is now. I’d give it a modest front splitter and and a rear spoiler, then it should get a couple seconds off.

Not really that surprising. After all, this is the ZR1, you can pretty much expect that it would actually be able to perform much better than it did before. Anyway, the video is really great.
