GM’s direct engine technology is being offered in many of their 2009 models. This new technology increases power while reducing fuel consumption. Injecting the fuel directly into the combustion chamber allows the engineers better control of fuel delivery and waste less of the pertrolium based product.

ancient technology.... its just like when GM introduced the ABS... they made such a huge fuss and in Europe it was already standard for 10 years!!

Direct injection is basically the fuel being fed to the cylinders via high pressure injectors. This allows for a higher compression ratio with less fuel being burnt, meaning better mileage.

Yes, new to the US.

However this technology has been used by the VW/Audi concern for years, developed in the Audi R8 Lemans race car!

This is just one small indication of how far behind the US automobile industry is compared to the big players in Europe!
