Video: Drifter Kawabata performs ridiculous drift maneuver

The Japanese have the propensity to get overly excited over the simplest of things so when it comes to what they consider as ‘monumental achievements’, you can be sure that they’re exhilaration would go through the roof.

In a recent drift session in Japan, a Nissan RPS13 that was being driven by one M. Kawabata performed an eye-popping reverse-entry slide, drifting the car around a corner with the car’s rear end turning first while maintaining that position for the duration of the turn amidst all the smoking tires. Some people are calling the move ‘the best drift ever’ and justifiably so, it was as beautiful as any drift you’ll ever see with your own two eyes.

As far as the Japanese folks who were commentating on the event? Well, they’re reactions were just as priceless.

Thank you jtm, for saving me some writing.

if you know how the scoring in drifting is done then you would know that is actually a rather impressive drift. his back end almost passes the front end in the drift maximizing the drift angle which is a key component to scoring in D1. not to mention most drivers would spin out at that big of an angle. the speed was pretty high was well and the tires were burning the entire time. its honestly a pretty perfectly executed drift

It’s not really that fascinating but what caught my eyes for real are those announcers and reporters. I don’t know if they just have so much pride and are just proud to be reporting or they haven’t seen a drifting car before.

It’s their point of view but like you’ve said, there’s too many drifters that can do that with their eyes closed. I don’t think that drift will be that great as I’ve seen on a drifting show on the metro. I will give that drift a 7/10.

yeah man. I know exactly how you feel. College is rough on the wallet

yea i love mine cant wait to get mine finished. limited funding though bc i’m a college student and what not

nice setup man, Yeah I haven’t been driving mine much, except as a major drift car because I drive my Z more. 240’s are definitely a prime drift car though.

so far an apexi dual n1 exhaust ebaich springs kyb gas struts and an aem intake until i get my engine swap done

lol its all good. Nice ride. ANy mods? Good to see another Nissan lover

my mistake the way you worded it made it seem like sarcasm. and yea i was slightly offended bc i drive a 240sx as well lol s13 hatchback. my bad

He is using a 240sx s13 too

Hey bud. I was not saying Nissan sarcastically at all. Nissan is by far my favorite manufacturer and the manufacturer of choice for drifting. The car he is using is an s13. I have a 240sx myself and drift with it all the time. I was simply stating that Nissan owns the drift industry.

naterade... you say in a nissan as if you’re surprised... the 240sx also known as the nissan silvia in japan or in this case the 180sx in hatchback form with the flip up headlights, is one of the most popular drift cars in the world due to its nearly 50/50 weight distribution, macpherson strut set up in the front and 5 link multilink suspension in the back. swap in the sr20det which is the stock engine in japan. throw about 4grand in mods to the engine. you’ll have about 350whp and you have a drift happy car with an 8500rpm redline (8200rpm stock). i’d say thats basically ideal for drifting. also nissans (240sx, 300zx, silvias, skylines) and rx-7’s were the most popular drift cars when drifting became a hit because of the afformentioned details and still remain some of the most popular and capable drift cars today

that was an amazing reversal-drift, that was a Nissan 200SX Am I right?.

wow that was an amazing drift... Japanese are really taking the car race into the next level. reverse-side drift is really amazing specially when done by a professional drift driver.

amazing indeed. And driving a Nissan. Greatness

simply amazing smiley

absolutely insane drifting
