At the end of 2012, Infiniti ->ke36 announced plans to change its naming strategy once again. The usual G, M, FX, EX names were dropped and all models will get new names prefixed by Q->ke4601 for sedans, coupes and convertibles, and QX, for crossover->ke288 and SUV->ke145 models.

Next to the Q or QX lettering, each model will also get a double digit representing its level within the range. The first model to adopt the new strategy was the Q50 -- a sedan that replaced the G37. It will be followed by the Q30 Coupe, plus there are rumors that suggest there will also be a flagship model called either Q70 or Q80.

Now, Infiniti released a video that explains why the company opted for this new naming strategy. The company launched its first model in 1989. It was named Q45 and the new naming strategy pays tribute to this original model.
