Video: Pontiac Firebreather tussles with the Shelby GT500

  news

We all know what the 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible looks like and what it’s capable of so we won’t bother with introductions anymore because it certainly doesn’t need one.

On the other hand, the ‘Firebreather’, as the car is most commonly referred to, may not be familiar to a lot of us today, but come next year – or whenever the new movie, ‘Jinn’, will be shown – this piece of machine will be synonymous to one of the most iconic movie cars in history.

That being said, the Firebreather may look like a Pontiac Firebird on the outside, but it’s actually a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro under that entire guise. Created by Classic Design Concepts in collaboration with Exxodus Pictures, the car comes with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 monster that produces a fire-breathing output of over 600 horsepower. Quick tangent: Exxodus Pictures and Classic Design Concepts even made 50 production cars to be sold to the public so you can expect these babies to sell like pancakes when the movie comes out.

That being said, with the Firebreather and the 2011 Shelby GT500 in close vicinity to each other, the folks over at The Smoking Tire couldn’t resist the temptation of pitting one against the other. So how does the 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible stack up against the Firebreather? The Smoking Tire host Matt Farah has the answer.

As in Shelby GT500? Guys, are you kidding that this one will lose over Camaro? Hahaha Looks like both of them are put into a hard test.

Im so tired with the concept of  Firebreather. But i don’t certainly agree that Gt500 is the disguise version of Pontiac. However, i find the 600 hp is incredibly good.

Well, IMO, never underestimate the reliability of Shelby GT500. I think this is just a fair race. However, Pontiac  or disguise Camaro is a good brand also.

The same question popped up with my head. Just like what have been said , Firebreather is the disguise or replica version of the Camaro..So when will the GM comes up with their own design?

Yeah, that right..2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 doesn’t need further introduction. So i hope the movie will turn out better than the movie that was recently shown and has a connection with cars ( i forgot the title),smiley

The Challenger, that’s a different story. I drove one recently (SRT-8). Too big, too heavy, looks nice (too retro for my taste) and the interior was ’old American car’.

All this tells me is that GM made a big mistake killing off Pontiac completely. It definitely has a niche market that they are missing out on. At least the aftermarket industry recognizes this. How many more fire bird/trans am replicas will we see before GM decides to build a real one?

I agree, I like that one. The nose is a little cleaner, and the hood scoop is in better proportions to me.

I think it looks great. Futuristic and classic at the same time.
