As Mercedes->ke187' flagship model since roughly the beginning of time, the Mercedes S-Class->ke359 has always been at the forefront of the automaker's technological advancements. In a lot of ways, it was ahead of the curve and contained features that would eventually move down to the company's other models.

At last month's Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance->ke2839, Mercedes took the unprecedented step of showcasing all of its S-Class models, including a number of iconic models that have since been given the classic->ke503 treatment.

But the best part about this showcase was that Mercedes was able to capture it on video, giving all of us a chance to relive the legendary history of the company's flagship model dating back to its infancy. There are a lot in there that were released way before any of us were born, so you can understand how reverential we treat some of these models.

2013 Mercedes S-Class Coupe Concept

The Mercedes S-Class Coupe Concept was just unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show->ke235 and there's already talk that the concept will be the precursor for the next-generation CL-Class->ke254, a line of models that will eventually target super-luxury models like the Bentley Continental GT.

Once the green light is given for that move, Mercedeswis expected to build the new S-Class Coupe on a modified version of the S-Class sedan’s platform and will come with the choice of either a V-8 or V-12 engine. In its concept form, though, the S-Class Coupe carries "just" a V-8 engine, albeit one that can produce up to 455 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, good enough to hit 60 mph in 4.8 seconds to go with a top speed of 155 mph.
