Okay, so this may not be the first time this type of news has graced the screens of computers everywhere, but we feel Volkswagen may be on to something...again. It is rumored that the new Golf will be available as a convertible and will be launched in 2010. The convertible model will fill the gap left by the decision of dropping the convertible model in last year’s Golf.
A future Golf Cabrio will feature the same design language as the current hatchback model, but will get a conventional folding soft-top. The middle frame member will be absent on this model which should improve its styling over the 4th generation Golf Cabrio. Under the hood there will be the same engines as in the hatchback: four new petrol units ranging from 80hp to 160hp and two diesels, developing 110hp and 140hp respectively. A GTI version is also a possibility.
When launched the Golf Cabrio will compete with models like Ford Focus CC and Peugeot 308CC. Of course, the U.S. won’t be seeing the 5th generation Volkswagen Golf Cabrio until about the middle of 2012 or even 2013. So goes our bad luck.
