Volkswagen Jetta sedan will be the first Volkswagen model to get the Bluetec-branded diesel engine in 2008. The Jetta will get its cleanest ever turbodiesel in the form of a 2.0-liter common-rail diesel. The engine will use an oxygen after-treatment system and a particulate filter to meet 50-state diesel emission requirements.
At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Volkswagen announced they will join in a Bluetec alliance with DaimlerChrysler, which unveiled the technology last summer with the Mercedes E320 Bluetec. The Bluetec technology that will be used in the 2008 Jetta will will share the Bluetec marketing term to describe clean diesels, but will use different technology.
