Don’t let the camouflage fool you; this is definitely the factory hot rod version of Volkswagen’s Scirocco. This Scirocco R test mule was spied running laps on the German Nurburgring circuit.

Inspired by the Study R concept, the Volkswagen Scirocco R is distinguishable by the lower hanging front and rear bumpers and low to the pavement scraping side skirts, but it is the 19 inch wheels that set the R apart from the rest of the crowd.

What you can’t see is that under the hood Volkswagen is testing a 2.0 Liter TFSI engine that delivers 262 HP, quite impressive considering that the standard model makes just 197 HP. The extra grunt allows the R version of the Scirocco to go from 0 to 60 MPH in six seconds. The R version will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 6 seconds and will hit a top speed of 155 MPH.
