Volkswagen revealed the Passat CC four-door coupe in January at the Detroit Auto Show. Although it is based on the Passat, the German manufacturer took the decision to rename the vehicle from the Passat CC to the CC.

This decision was taken in order to separate the CC from the Passat and to create a new class, as Mercedes did with the CLS four-door coupe. Set to be launched in early 2009, the new Volkswagen CC will be powered by a 2.0 liter turbo diesel engine capable of delivering 200 hp and a 3.6 liter V6 petrol engine which produces 300 hp.

It looks like next year we will see a little competition for the CLS, a model that currently has no rival on the automarket. Although the CC will be less expensive comparing it to the CLS, Volkswagen hopes to attract a new class of customers anxious to buy a modern car that will unveil new design lines different from other cars.
