VW Sfero

The Sfero is a completely special creation, because is the first Volkswagen who have front engine in connection with rear propulsion,a mixture between a SUV and a station-wagon, although an all-wheel drive is not planned.

This is possible because Bernd Pischetsrieder and Ferrari-boss Luca di Montezemolo are said to be in agreement for a unique technology transfer. So Maserati will deliver the chassis of their brand-new Quattroporte sedan as a base for the new Volkswagen Sfero.

In exchange Volkswagen will deliver the 4x4 chassis of its Touareg off-roader for the future Maserati Kubang SUV.

The Quattroporte’s transaxle chassis allows an excellent weight-balance and therefore promises superb handling for the Sfero.

Audi’s V-8 engines also fit perfectly in the Sfero, so we have to expect a top-of-the line engine (also probable -Volkswagens TDI’s and FSI’s with up to 450 HP).

Air suspension, an electrically operated rear door,new active steering system, a wide track and long wheelbase (114.2 inches), adaptive brake light and LED taillights are other luxury features included in the 2007 model.
