Win a Ride in the Peugeot Onyx Concept at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed

When Peugeot revealed its wild 2012 Onyx concept, we knew that there was little hope of it ever seeing production and a short email exchange with the automaker confirmed our suspicion. So, we wrote off any chance of a private owner reeling in this awesome copper-highlighted concept car. Well, now there is a chance for one person to get his or her hands on it.

No, you can’t take it home, but you can get a ride in it. At the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed , Peugeot will raffle off a chance to take a ride in the 680-horsepower, diesel-hybrid-powered supercar at its first public demonstration at the 20th anniversary running of the FoS.

The ride will take place on July 13th and the raffle will take place on July 1st. What’s more, you also get two free tickets into the Goodwood Fos. Unfortunately, the contest is only open to UK residents and you have to provide your own transportation to the event.

If you’re interested, you can enter the contest here.

2012 Peugeot Onyx Concept

Peugeot Onyx Hybrid Concept

The Onyx Concept hit the auto show circuit at the 2012 Paris Auto Show with its stunning black body highlighted by copper panels. The copper was left completely uncoated, so each hypothetical production model would eventually gain its own character as the copper oxidized.

Not only is the Onyx concept sexy, but it is trim and fit too. It comes in at only 183 inches long, 86.6 inches wide and 44.5 inches high with a curb weight of 2,425 pounds. Add these dimensions to its 600 ponies under the hood from its diesel-electric hybrid V-8 engine and you have a supercar that is capable of astounding performance numbers. If that’s not enough, the Peugeot Intelligent Hybrid4 technology adds an extra 80 horsepower to the mix on demand. This gives the super-light car nearly 700 ponies at its disposal.

That’s certainly enough for one wild ride up the Goodwood hillclimb.

Dynamic concept comes alive: Peugeot Onyx Concept car

With most concept cars usually being modelled for static appreciation, the Peugeot Onyx breaks the traditional mould with superb authenticity, innovative use of materials in its construction and performance to impress.

Within the carbon fibre shell sits a mid-mounted 3.7-litre V8 HDi FAP diesel-electric hybrid power unit developed with the expertise of Peugeot Sport and the experience acquired from racetracks the world over. NACA ducts in the double-bubble roofline supply the intake for the diesel V8 to transmit 600bhp to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox.

Intelligent HYbrid4 technology recovers kinetic energy stored in lithium-ion batteries, to be redeployed to enhance acceleration, boosting the power by 80bhp, to give this ‘Concept Car’ less than 2kg per horsepower, which means Onyx achieves high performance without altering the purity and elegance of its exterior style.

The exterior is fashioned by hand by a master craftsman, the wings and doors are of pure copper sheet, polished to a mirror finish and left ‘unprotected’, so that over time the appearance will gain a patina – thus Onyx is alive and going green!

The Peugeot signature ‘Motion and Emotion’ is being fully played out at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed hillclimb and is certainly a brand on the move upmarket.
