Celebrities and their fast and expensive cars' stories.

Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum - yeah, he’s not a Los Angeles Laker anymore - is a pretty tall dude at 7’0", but even with all that length, not to mention the bulk of being close to 300 lbs, the 24-year old certainly has a pretty strong affinity for top-of-the-line supercars.

As we previously showed in the last installment of Car and Athlete , athletes with this kind of financial security have become more adept at splurging their dollars on something as insatiably satisfying as a limited edition model. Andrew Bynum fits into this mold because the man is more than just a highly-paid basketball player; he’s got the garage to back it up too.

So have you ever wondered what kind of cars Bynum has in his garage? True to his reputation as one of the most popular auto enthusiasts in the world, Bynum’s list of cars run long and impressive.

Find out what kind of cars Andrew Bynum has tried to fit his seven-foot frame into after the jump.

Though NASCAR lists pretty far down our list of favorite racing series, the movie “Days of Thunder” is one that took NASCAR and made it interesting for everyone. Maybe it was the droves of 20-something women drooling over the pre-nutzoid Tom Cruise, but there was something about it that people liked. It was so well liked that there was even a pretty shoddy video game made about it.

Well, we have received word that the director behind “Days of Thunder,” along with “Top Gun” and a slew of other movies, Tony Scott, was found dead after jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, California. His death was an apparent suicide, as investigators found a suicide note in his Toyota Prius .

There are no reports as to what exactly caused Scott to leap off of the 365-foot-tall bridge to his death, but we’re sure some details will arise in the coming days.

This is not the first time a person of notoriety has leaped to their death from this 6,060-foot-long suspension bridge. Back in 1990, Larry Andreasen, a bronze metal winner in the 1964 Olympics, leaped from the bridge in an attempt to set the world diving record.

Our condolences go out to Scott’s family and he will be forever remembered for his contributions to the movie world.

Ford Motor Company , Shelby American , and Ford Racing have come together to build a special one-off model to pay tribute to the man responsible for creating the iconic Cobra: Carroll Shelby . Called "Friends of Carroll," these companies, along with many others, have put together the Shelby GT500 Cobra, which is based off of the 2013 Mustang GT500 , but with some tantalizing modifications.

The team began the build with the GT500’s 5.8L V8 engine which already produces 662 HP, then added a Ford Racing 4.0L Whipple supercharger that catapulted the power to over 850 HP! Keeping this beast safely on the road are 13" rear wheels wrapped around 345-section high performance tires, as well as new Shelby Wilwood brakes.

On the design front, the new Shelby GT500 Cobra was given a Shelby-designed hood, a new rear wide body kit, and new 20" wheels. The exterior is finished off with a Guardsman Blue paint finish and Wimbledon white stripes, as seen on the Cobra roadster of the ’60’s.

“Carroll Shelby changed the performance world forever,” says Luft. “And while he was proud of Shelby American’s achievements, Carroll was far more interested in the next car we build. You will find the spirit and influence of Carroll Shelby Shelby in every future vehicle we build as found in the rear wide-body kit and hood that has been integrated into the 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra.”

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Cobra will be touring across the United States and will eventually end up being auctioned off for charity.

If you’ve ever leafed through the pages of the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, you’ll notice that there’s a lot of erotica involved between the two stars of the book, Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. We’re not going to dive into that; instead, we’re focusing on another part of the book that bears more relevance to the auto industry.

It seems that for all of his quirks, Christian Grey also has a fascination for cars, in particular, Audis . A number of Audi models were mentioned prominently in the trilogy, particularly the A3 , which Christian gave to Anastasia for her birthday.

On top of the A3, the R8 was also mentioned, as well as an unnamed Audi SUV, and a host of other vehicles from the German automaker. The multiple references of Audi on one of the fastest-selling book trilogies of all time seems to have reflected on Audi’s US sales.

In a quote from AutoNews, Loren Angelo, general manager of Audi brand communications, said that while Audi had no involvement or knowledge that their cars would be prominently mentioned in the books, the company may have benefited from the unexpected exposure.

"As Audi continues to generate momentum in the U.S. market, we’re seeing our products utilized more and more within popular culture," Angelo said.

"Those organic results are always a sign that a brand is generating real cultural relevance. Obviously, the runaway success of this series has introduced Audi to consumers who might not have previously been thinking of the brand and that certainly has a positive impact for us."

For the month of July, Audi reported an all-time sales record, earning a 28% sales increase from the same time last year. The company did clarify that they don’t have any data to prove that the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy had a direct effect on the increased sales.

Then again, when something like this happens, you only need to trace it back to the source to find out that there just might be an explanation to all of this.

Jay Leno has admitted to not being a "Ferrari guy," or at least a "modern Ferrari guy," but as far as classic Ferraris go, the comedian still has a soft spot for them. So when fellow comedian Adam Carolla brought his classic Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 to show Leno, the two car nuts proceeded to talk car chops about the iconic Ferrari model.

Built from 1964 to 1967, the 330 GT 2+2 holds a special appeal in the eyes of Ferrari collectors. Carolla’s model, in particular, looks especially fresh given the years it already has out on the road. It doesn’t command the same drool as the Ferrari 250 , but it’s no less a collector’s piece.

As soon as their two-man discussion finished, Carolla gave Leno the keys to the 330 GT 2+2 for a nice test drive. That’s when things turned to pure comedy as the 330 GT 2+2 first runs out of gas before developing a vibration that ended up getting caused by an improperly lubricated speedomenter cable that eventually led to the actual needle to fall off.

Great stuff, as always, from two of the funniest car nuts around.

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR was officially launched at the 2007 New York International Auto Show where it was displayed as a celebratory piece for the 40th Anniversary of the original 1968 Shelby Cobra Shelby Cobra GT500KR. This car was so amazing, that Carroll Shelby himself grabbed up a model to put in his garage. Now, the model he drove can be yours as it will be put up for auction at Vicari’s 16th annual Biloxi Auction set to take place from October 7-14, 2012

Carroll Shelby’s car is painted in Ebony Black combined with a Satin Ebony Stripe. Only 236 units like this were built in 2009, making the muscle car a unique piece of machinery. The GT500KR is powered by a supercharged 5.4 liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 540 HP at 6,250 RPM and a peak torque of 510 lbs.-ft at 4,500 RPM. The car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds.

This is one of those rare opportunities where one lucky person can be the proud owner of a vehicle once driven by an automotive legend. It’s not going to come cheap, but it will be absolutely worth it.

Soccer players can make tons of money; enough that it lets them run through thousands of dollars without even breaking a sweat. With that much disposable income on their hands, a lot of these athletes have taken to purchasing some of the most awesome supercars on the planet.

Yeah, it’s one of those things that make everyday Joes like us green with envy. We already have enough trouble paying our bills, but these dudes don’t seem to have any worries dropping six-figure sums of money on a car they’ll probably enjoy for at least a year before moving on to the next automotive eye candy that catches their attention. Of course, with the schedule and talent these guys need to maintain for their career, they deserve it.

In this page, we’re going to take a look at the supercars of these soccer players. It could potentially be an exercise in envy, but hey, that’s what makes it all the more fun, right? If we can’t buy these exotics, we might as well live our fantasies vicariously through the dudes that can.

Check out the supercars these boys ride around their towns in after the jump

There are several things you can expect when you purchase a used supercar. Things like great handling, superior engine performance, and stylish appearance are all on that list. There is an equally long list of things you would never expect. One of the biggest things you would not expect is a Ferrari -b-q.

Well, when you have the automotive luck of Valencia CF soccer player, Ever Banega, whose last mishap involved forgetting to set the parking brake on his Audi R8 , which resulted in it rolling backwards and breaking his ankle, you should really expect the unexpected. Well, that’s exactly what happened, as Banega’s newly purchased Ferrari 360 Modena decided to spontaneously combust on his way to practice.

Well, maybe not spontaneously, as it was determined that electrical failure caused the blaze, but it is still something that is truly unexpected. By the time fire fighters subdued the flames, the 360 Modena was little more than a pile of melted plastic and metal.

Fortunately, Banega got away from the flaming car without injury and someone managed to get us some footage of this Ferrari turned kindling, as Banega and his teammate frantically look for water to douse the flames.

Check out the video and cringe as this fine automobile meets its flaming grave. Maybe Banega should consider mass transit from here on out...

The James Bond movie franchise has featured some of the most iconic British cars in the world, none more so than the Aston Martin DB5 . We all remember the classic speedster that not only appeared in five Bond movies, but also became a hot toy collectible for a generation of young Bond fans back in the day.

It appears that people are nostalgic for the fabled DBS because the car, in true Bond fashion, is making a comeback in the latest installment of the franchise, Skyfall.

This video provided to us by the movie’s dedicated page explains just how important a role the DB5 has played in the Bond movies. The classic British look, combined with all those gizmos and gadgetry that could give the Batmobile a run for its money, really holds a special place in the hearts of Bond fans.

To see that it’s coming back in Skyfall only adds to our anticipation of seeing the movie, which incidentally opens in theaters later this year. There aren’t that many things in this world that can render James Bond into the background, but the Aston Martin DB5 is one of them.

After all, there’s a reason why 007, and all of us for that matter, can’t seem to get enough of it.

Say what you will about his pop-culture shows, but when it comes to reviewing cars, Jay Leno knows what’s going on. In his series, “Jay Leno’s Garage ,” we have seen numerous cars come in and out, but the Fiat 500 Abarth is one of the few cars to come into his garage that Jay hasn’t had the chance to drive yet.

Jay finally caught up with Fiat and snagged up a 500 Abarth, despite their very short supply, to test drive. Jay did what we all would do the second he got behind the wheel of this high-performance compact hatchback... He pushed it as hard as it would go.

You know what, the 500 Abarth took everything Jay threw at it and it just kept asking for more. We are quick to rag on the 500 lineup, mostly because Fiat has consistently added new models based on the exact same car, but this Abarth Abarth model is not one that is deserving of the taunting we give the lineup. It truly is a sports car in a compact car’s body.

At one point, Jay decides it’s time to pull a U-turn. Instead of coming to a complete stop, then slowly turning around, Jay quickly yanks up the E-brake, whips the car around, then smolders the tires as he takes off in the other direction. That was quite simply the marque moment in this video.

Man, it sure is good to be Jay Leno! Check out the video to see for yourself.
