Oh the tragedy! Many Americans may not be too familiar with Katie Price, but over in the UK, Price is widely known for her television appearances, her lackluster singing career, and her published books. With so many hobbies, we can only imagine that this little harlot has plenty of money to spend which is evident in her newest toy, a Bugatti Veyron.
Price laid out £1million - or around $1.6 million at the current exchange rates - on this beautifully fast supercar and plans on ruining it by painting it pink to match her other vehicles. Yeah, she has other pink cars to boast of. A close source to her said: "She will anger petrol-heads worldwide by turning such a beautiful, iconic machine bright pink. But at least it will match her other cars." Just goes to show that money can’t buy taste.
In addition to the high cost of the supercar, it seems Price has also purchased a rather expensive "F1" license plate. The Sun doesn’t say anything about the F1 plate slapped right on the front of the car, but it looks very similar to the license plate auctioned off in 2008 to Afzal Kahn (Kahn Design owner) for £440,000 (about $880,000). We don’t know for sure, but with the amount of money Price throws around, we wouldn’t be surprised.
Some will argue that Top Gear will only go as far as Jeremy Clarkson takes it, and to a certain extent, there’s some truth to that. But that’s not to say that his co-hosts, Richard Hammond and James May, are scrubs by any stretch of the imagination. As a matter of fact, one of them is going to get his own show in, of all places, America.
That’s right. The Hamster himself is crossing over to the other side of the pond. As BBC continues to expand its line-up in our neck of the woods, one of the shows that has already been confirmed will feature Richie Boy in a show called ’Hard Drive with Richard Hammond.’
The show is being being pegged as something along the lines of the World’s Toughest Driving Tests. Hammond will be traveling across the vast expanses of our wondrous land in search of the weirdest machines that he can get to move faster than Captain Slow ever could. We don’t know what kind of contraptions are going to be in store for us, but we’re definitely digging the concept of the show.
Let’s hope that the show more than lives up to the pretty awesome concept.
Rowan Atkinson is known by most as the one of the world’s funniest, albeit quirky, men. After all, Mr. Bean hardly needs much of an introduction, but what most people don’t know is that Mr. Bean is also an avid car lover and collector. Move aside, Jay Leno, because Atkinson knows his fair share of automobiles too, and drives them like a pro.
The proof is in the pudding and while dropping in on the gang at BBC’s Top Gear, Mr. Atkinson brought along one of his prized possessions: a very special Rolls-Royce Phantom. We say special because it doesn’t feature the Phantom’s usual 6.75-liter V12 engine, but a unique 9.0-liter V16. According to Atkinson, Rolls Royce designed the Phantom especially for this engine, but changed their mind at the last minute. The V16 engine was hanging around the company’s store until Atkinson - knowing of its existence and history - specifically asked for it to be dropped into a Phantom. The best part is that the V16-powered Phantom will be used for one of Atkinson’s upcoming movies - Johnny English Reborn - set to air in the States on August 18, 2011.
Any boy that has spent an inordinate time of their childhood playing with Hot Wheels mini cars should owe a ton of gratitude to the man that made it all possible, Elliot Handler.
We know that we’ve played with over hundreds of these cars so it is with great sadness that we bring the unfortunate news that Handler just passed away last Thursday from heart failure. He was 95 years old.
Despite his passing, Handler left an indelible mark on our childhood with some even stretching their fascination for Hot Wheels all the way into their adult lives. The man became famous for introducing die-cast toy cars that can be played around by young boys the same way his other idea - Barbie - did for young girls all over the world.
Over time, Hot Wheels has become one of the go-to toys for kids of all ages and the brand’s success has resulted in well over 10,000 models today. Some of these have even become collector’s items that sell for over five digits depending on the interested buyer.
Indeed, Elliot Handler was one of those people that impacted the lives of young boys all over the world. Lord knows we can testify that without those Hot Wheels in our living rooms, we probably wouldn’t have the same passion for cars.
Now that the 2011 summer movie schedule is drawing to a close, the whole world is turning its attention to the 2012 schedule, which is highlighted by the third and final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.
The movie is currently under production and as many fans of the hit movie franchise will tell you, one of the newsworthy headlines being talked about these days is the return of Batman’s own wrecking ball of a Batmobile, the Tumbler.
The vehicle was noticeably absent in the Dark Knight after sustaining significant ’damage’ in Batman Begins. But now it looks like the popular ride is fixed to return to active duty as recent spy videos show the car in transit, albeit covered by a tarp, on its way to a ’secret’ hanger after spending some time on the set of its on-location filming in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The buzz surrounding the new Tumbler is that it’s going to be dressed differently from its prior incarnation in the first movie - the word is that it’s going to come in tan - which really isn’t a shock considering that the original Tumbler didn’t have any prominent hues to begin with.
Check out the video of the covered up Tumbler being transported to the Batcave...err...that ’secret’ hangar people have been talking about.
