Ferrari LaFerrari

Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent contract extension with Real Madrid essentially turned the soccer superstar into one of the most handsomely paid athletes in the world (he’s reportedly set to earn 17 million euros a year, which is around $23 million based on current exchange rates). So, with all that money at his disposal, nobody was surprised to find out that Ronaldo is spending his money wisely.

That is, if you can describe buying a Ferrari LaFerrari as a "wise" decision.

Ronaldo has long been known as a supercar aficionado, often riding around Madrid with the latest exotic to hit the market. His luck with those rides are a different discussion — he’s had problems with the Ferrari 599 GTB and the Lamborghini Aventador in the past — but nobody can deny his taste for exotics.

As one of the 499 customers on the waiting list for the limited-edition LaFerrari, Ronaldo is poised to score one of the fastest and most powerful cars on the planet. It’s going to cost him $1.3 million, but given that he can earn that amount by the end of the year, it sure won’t be a problem for the Galactico striker to shell out that much money without ruining his gelled-up hair.

Fresh off of disposing Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in one of the most clinical displays of boxing you’ll ever see, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is back to living large like nobody else can.

He pocketed a cool $41.5 million as his fight purse alone, and that number is expected to hit anywhere from $85 to $100 million when all is said and done. So yeah, the nickname fits the man, so they say.

Mayweather’s status as one of the richest athletes in the world also affords him some nice luxuries, one of which he proudly displayed during the recent build-up to the Alvarez fight.

Over in his Las Vegas home, Mayweather has a pretty sick car collection. It’s not sick because of the quantity. It’s sick because of the quality of machines he has inside his Vegas property. Oh, and they’re all white too, which has become a color of choice whenever Mayweather is shopping for a new set of wheels.

Take a look at the collection and tell us you’re not impressed. There’s a Lamborghini Aventador , a Ferrari 599 GTB , a Ferrari 458 Spyder , a Rolls-Royce Drophead , a Bentley Mulsanne , a Rolls-Royce Phantom , a Bugatti Veyron , and his personal favorite, a 1996 Mercedes S600 V12 sedan , which we assume was his first car after turning pro in 1996. In case your head is spinning just trying to tally up the rough total of those cars, it is somewhere between $3.5 and $4 million, depending on the years and the options on each car.

But the best part about Money May’s extravagant car collection? It’s not the only one he has. He’s got one in Miami, Los Angeles, and God knows where else.

That’s how you collect in style, fellas.

When it comes to Mr. Snuggles (Kobe Bryant) and his West Coast Customs ’ 1963 Impala SS Convertible, it seems that having $100,000,000 in the bank will change a man’s taste in automobiles.

From this air-ride and 808-thumping beast, Kobe’s previous taste in cars was not quite as universally refreshing as his favorite brand of soda, which is Sprite, by the way. Painted a hideous purple/blue blend and with Cheech and Chong-style low-rider wheels: this nasty custom is really an L.A. special.

The 100-spoke, 13-inch wheels and the interior are reasonably well done, but watching the West Coast Customs ’ brain trust on cable TV does not inspire confidence in one inch of the engine mechanicals, handling, reliability, performance or value of this 1963 Impala SS.

This example is for sale at $100,000 even, with over 700 people watching the auction and dozens of offers already rejected. No word if West Coast Customs would do a barter deal for tutoring and (maybe!) get these artistic geniuses a GED certificate or two.

It’s not everyday that everyday that we hear about Dick Van Dyke; actually, it’s been a mighty long time since we’ve heard anything about him. Well today is just one of those days where he so happens to make our front page, as his Jaguar XJ burned to a crisp.

According to the report from TMZ and an interview with Van Dyke, he was cruising down the 101 in Calabasas, California when he heard a noise coming from his fairly new Jaguar XJ . Thinking he had gotten a flat tire, he pulled off to the side of the road. Once on the side of the road, he saw smoke starting to come from the car and he tried "calling the DMV" — we don’t know what the DMV does about smoke coming from a car, must be a California thing...

Fortunately for the actor, an off-duty rescue worker was in the area and pulled Van Dyke from the car just before it burst into flames. A video (above) actually shows the flaming Jag and then about three-quarters of the way through the video, the car explodes into an even larger fireball.

Fortunately, no one was injured and Van Dyke seemed in good spirits when TMZ interviewed him. His car, on the other hand, is pretty well thrashed. This is not the first Jag that has turned into kitty-cat flambe lately, as an F-Type burned up earlier this month in Belgium. Hopefully this is not a trend for Jaguar, as it has worked hard to rebuild its tattered image from the Ford days...

We are all for customization to make your car fit your personality, even on one as bad-ass as the Lamborghini Aventador . But Chris Brown’s decision to make his Lambo look like one expensive Nike Foamposite Camo shoe has us scratching our heads a little.

You have to admit that in the past few months we have seen all kind of crazy custom work, but this is far and away craziest yet! Sometimes people just get blinded by money and do crazy things when they are bored, like make their $387,000 car look like a shoe. Not that we are massive Aventador fanboys, but still that thing is hideous!

Despite the horrible camo job, this supercar is still a hoot to drive, thanks to its 6.5-liter V-12 engine that pumps out an astonishing 700 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque. The Aventador can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and goes up to a top speed of 217 mph.

Let us know if you agree or disagree with our opinion of this paintjob or if you love it in the comments.

Even after years of being around, the McLaren F1 still deserves the respect of being one of the first modern-day supercars to grace us with its presence.

Everything about the F1 inspires conversation, but this time around, we leave noted auto enthusiast Jay Leno to give us the lowdown on one of the F1’s most important features: its engine.

Professor Leno has his own F1 and it needed a new fuel pump, which made it pretty easy to access its 6.0-liter V-12 engine because, believe it or not, you have to yank out this powerplant to access the pump. In so doing, Leno gives us the lowdown on what makes this particular engine well suited to satisfy the rage of the McLaren supercar and allow it produce all of its 618 horsepower.

Considering that the F1 first made headway 20 years ago, you can make a definite case that the 618 horsepower it produces without any turbochargers is still a benchmark few other vehicles can be proud to say they’ve met these days.

That’s saying a lot, adding only to the mystique of the F1 and its capabilities as a track-capable supercar capable of hitting 62 mph in just over 3 seconds, while hitting a top speed of just a shade under 250 mph - back in 1998.

And to Jay Leno’s credit, his willingness to show us the inner guts of the McLaren F1’s engine is something that’s well appreciated.

We don’t know about you, but we are pretty tired of all this Justin Bieber drama. Seemingly ever few months we have a new story of him driving like a moron. It just keeps on repeating over and over again.

Last time he hit the front page he was accused of six moving violations in Dubai . Now it looks like on Monday night he struck a photographer with his white Ferrari 458 Italia while leaving the Laugh Factory with his friend, Lil Twist.

Up to this point, Bieber wasn’t charged with any crime for the incident, but if the photographer decides to sue The Beib, it will be the second lawsuit against him. The first one was opened just a few weeks ago when a man accuses Bieber of ordering his bodyguard to commit assault and theft of the photographer’s camera.

There are no details on why or how Beiber hit the man, but we think it is safe to say he likely wasn’t driving in the safest manner.

We don’t know about you, but we think is time for Bieber to hire a chauffeur as he is not the best driver we have seen out there. The more we hear about Beibers incidents behind the wheel of his various supercars, the more we are starting to wonder if people think that all Ferrari drivers drive like a-holes...

Never ever open a car door while moving…

This is a lesson George Michael had to learn in a very unpleasant way. It looks like the famous musician opened aRange Rover ’s door and tried to pull it shut again because it wasn’t shut properly. Before he could close the door, he fell out of the car at 70 mph.

The incident happened on a motorway near St Albans and a woman approaching from behind almost ran him over. Katherine Fox said that when she saw him falling from the car she slamed on her brakes and reversed her Mini , so that no other vehicles would hit him.

According to Fox, George Michael had his clothes ripped and there was blood everywhere. Still, when he was transported to the hospital, his publicist Connie Filipello said that the injuries are just "superficial cuts and bruises." Michael’s partner, Fadi Fawaz, also reported the Michael was doing well at the hospital.

Police officers have opened an investigation and a final decision on what happened will be announced the in the upcoming weeks. We’ll keep an eye on Michael’s condition and report back if anything changes, but he seems like everything is going to be fine.

First Lindsay Lohan dominated the TopSpeed pages and now The Bieb-man himself, Justin Bieber, is set to tackle our pages. This time around, however, he wasn’t driving like an ass to get away from paparazzi; nope, this time he was driving like an ass simply because… he enjoys driving like an ass – at least that’s what we can make of it.

Over in the United Arab Emirates, even Justin Bieber can’t weasel his way into renting a car because he is just shy of the minimum age requirement. So, what does a millionaire pop sensation teeny bopper do in this instance? Well, borrow an Aventador from a “friend,” of course.

But, that’s not what gets him on our front page. What gets him here is the fact that he was caught breaking driving laws in Dubai via six different traffic cameras. According to reports, the teen idol was driving excessively fast and when the recently supercar’d out Dubai police department tried to stop him, he simply kept on going.

The report of the police trying to pull The Bieb over and him failing to yield leaves a massive hole in the story that has yet to be filled. We still don’t know why he was driving so fast and we are really wondering why in the world he didn’t pull over when the police attempted to stop him. There are reports that he was late to a few shows in the area, so he may have been speeding to get to those, but we highly doubt he would drive himself to his shows.

We’re sure that more details will emerge as time goes on, so stay tuned for more.

If you’ve seen the trailers for Fast and Furious 6 - really, who hasn’t? - you probably noticed that one of the cars that was used in the movie is none other than the Alfa Romeo Giulietta .

It might not be the first car you associate with being “fast and furious,” but the Giulietta does have a lot of appeal to it; enough of it, at least, to be featured in a series of new promotional ads for the upcoming blockbuster.

Notice that one of the Giuliettas used in the posters is all sorts of banged up. We reckon that it’s the same one that was used in the movie; after all, you can’t really expect a car like the Giulietta to get subjected to that kind of beat down unless Vin Diesel or one of his crew was driving it.

Ultimately, it’s a good promotional tie-up for Alfa Romeo , particularly for a brand that’s looking to reestablish itself as a serious player in the industry.

And what better movie franchise to hitch your proverbial wagon on than Fast and Furious?
