Celebrities and their fast and expensive cars' stories.

If you have a knack for watching daytime TV, you likely know who Doctor Phil is. In fact, even if you don’t watch it, you likely know that he is the over opinionated and sometimes-controversial psychologist that hands out advice to random people on his show.

Little did we know that Dr. Phil is a car nut too, or at least he seems like one, thanks to the 1957 Bel Air convertible he owns. Unfortunately, someone obviously wanted it a little more than him, as the $100,000 drop top – yup, it’s actually worth at least that much on the high end – was the victim of a car thief at a local repair shop.

The Chevy was in the shop for repairing a no-start condition, which proves that the Doc is either too busy to fix it or knows nothing about automotive mechanics, as that should be a simple fix on this all-mechanical car. The police report states that the lock was hacked off of a garage door in the shop and the thief had a clean getaway.

The robber must have either been a mechanic and repaired the vehicle, had a tow truck, or had some help to push this large vehicle out of the shop and to its destination – likely a chop shop somewhere in the local Burbank, CA area.

The car should be relatively easy to spot, as it is a black convertible Bel Air with chrome wheels, wide-whitewall tires, gold badging, and red leather interior — similar to the one above. There is no reward listed, but we’re sure Phil would pony something up for the return of his $100K car.

Captain America: The First Avenger” was chock-full of loads of action, but one thing automotive junkies couldn’t get enough of was the triple-axle car that Red Skull – the villain – drove in the movie. Though a lot of the scenes in the movie that showed the car were computer-generated, there was actually a real-life example of this beast built, and we found a video showing it in all of its glory.

The Schmidt Hydra Coupe is touted in the movie as being powered by a V-16 Supercharged engine and fueled by a power cube. In real life, however, this massive machine boasted a V-8 Ford engine pulled from a drag car. Taking its styling from the Mercedes 540K , Mercedes G4 Offroader, various Bentleys and Duesenbergs , this tank on wheels is both retro and futuristic at the same time.

It measures in at a massive 7.62 meters (25 feet), boasts six wheels, which is thanks to it being based on a truck chassis. This massive hunk of car is draped in a high-gloss red paint, matching its owner’s skull, and features massive white-wall tires.

It’s a pretty impressive build for a one-off movie car and we’re sure to see it at an auction one day. We’ll have to keep a keen eye out for it, so we can get together all of the details for you.

Until then, enjoy the above video showing us various parts of this awesomely crafted vehicle.

The post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max is set to return to theaters for the first time since 1985 and while Mel Gibson will not be in the movie, the reins of Mad Max will be in good hands with Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road .

As a movie that’s set in a world unlike the one we live in, you can expect little semblance of normalcy and bountiful doses of unorthodox. One element about the franchise that has become a critical part in the story are the cars-of-choice. Surely, you’ll remember some of them, including the Mad Max Interceptor, the Yellow Pursuit, and the Night Rider. Well, the fourth installment of the franchise promises to offer heaps of automotive oddities.

A few production photos from the movie have already revealed some of the cars you’ll see in the movie and trust us, we had just as hard a time trying to describe them as you probably will. Nevertheless, our best descriptions include a porcupine-like heavy-load, construction vehicle, a classic vehicle with a larger chassis and suspension with what looks like guns where the driver’s side mirror used to be, and last but not least, some heavy metal Big Foots ready to trample everything on sight.

If these descriptions don’t paint a clear enough picture, you can check out the photos and see for yourself.

Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum - yeah, he’s not a Los Angeles Laker anymore - is a pretty tall dude at 7’0", but even with all that length, not to mention the bulk of being close to 300 lbs, the 24-year old certainly has a pretty strong affinity for top-of-the-line supercars.

As we previously showed in the last installment of Car and Athlete , athletes with this kind of financial security have become more adept at splurging their dollars on something as insatiably satisfying as a limited edition model. Andrew Bynum fits into this mold because the man is more than just a highly-paid basketball player; he’s got the garage to back it up too.

So have you ever wondered what kind of cars Bynum has in his garage? True to his reputation as one of the most popular auto enthusiasts in the world, Bynum’s list of cars run long and impressive.

Find out what kind of cars Andrew Bynum has tried to fit his seven-foot frame into after the jump.

Though NASCAR lists pretty far down our list of favorite racing series, the movie “Days of Thunder” is one that took NASCAR and made it interesting for everyone. Maybe it was the droves of 20-something women drooling over the pre-nutzoid Tom Cruise, but there was something about it that people liked. It was so well liked that there was even a pretty shoddy video game made about it.

Well, we have received word that the director behind “Days of Thunder,” along with “Top Gun” and a slew of other movies, Tony Scott, was found dead after jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, California. His death was an apparent suicide, as investigators found a suicide note in his Toyota Prius .

There are no reports as to what exactly caused Scott to leap off of the 365-foot-tall bridge to his death, but we’re sure some details will arise in the coming days.

This is not the first time a person of notoriety has leaped to their death from this 6,060-foot-long suspension bridge. Back in 1990, Larry Andreasen, a bronze metal winner in the 1964 Olympics, leaped from the bridge in an attempt to set the world diving record.

Our condolences go out to Scott’s family and he will be forever remembered for his contributions to the movie world.

Ford Motor Company , Shelby American , and Ford Racing have come together to build a special one-off model to pay tribute to the man responsible for creating the iconic Cobra: Carroll Shelby . Called "Friends of Carroll," these companies, along with many others, have put together the Shelby GT500 Cobra, which is based off of the 2013 Mustang GT500 , but with some tantalizing modifications.

The team began the build with the GT500’s 5.8L V8 engine which already produces 662 HP, then added a Ford Racing 4.0L Whipple supercharger that catapulted the power to over 850 HP! Keeping this beast safely on the road are 13" rear wheels wrapped around 345-section high performance tires, as well as new Shelby Wilwood brakes.

On the design front, the new Shelby GT500 Cobra was given a Shelby-designed hood, a new rear wide body kit, and new 20" wheels. The exterior is finished off with a Guardsman Blue paint finish and Wimbledon white stripes, as seen on the Cobra roadster of the ’60’s.

“Carroll Shelby changed the performance world forever,” says Luft. “And while he was proud of Shelby American’s achievements, Carroll was far more interested in the next car we build. You will find the spirit and influence of Carroll Shelby Shelby in every future vehicle we build as found in the rear wide-body kit and hood that has been integrated into the 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra.”

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Cobra will be touring across the United States and will eventually end up being auctioned off for charity.

If you’ve ever leafed through the pages of the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, you’ll notice that there’s a lot of erotica involved between the two stars of the book, Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. We’re not going to dive into that; instead, we’re focusing on another part of the book that bears more relevance to the auto industry.

It seems that for all of his quirks, Christian Grey also has a fascination for cars, in particular, Audis . A number of Audi models were mentioned prominently in the trilogy, particularly the A3 , which Christian gave to Anastasia for her birthday.

On top of the A3, the R8 was also mentioned, as well as an unnamed Audi SUV, and a host of other vehicles from the German automaker. The multiple references of Audi on one of the fastest-selling book trilogies of all time seems to have reflected on Audi’s US sales.

In a quote from AutoNews, Loren Angelo, general manager of Audi brand communications, said that while Audi had no involvement or knowledge that their cars would be prominently mentioned in the books, the company may have benefited from the unexpected exposure.

"As Audi continues to generate momentum in the U.S. market, we’re seeing our products utilized more and more within popular culture," Angelo said.

"Those organic results are always a sign that a brand is generating real cultural relevance. Obviously, the runaway success of this series has introduced Audi to consumers who might not have previously been thinking of the brand and that certainly has a positive impact for us."

For the month of July, Audi reported an all-time sales record, earning a 28% sales increase from the same time last year. The company did clarify that they don’t have any data to prove that the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy had a direct effect on the increased sales.

Then again, when something like this happens, you only need to trace it back to the source to find out that there just might be an explanation to all of this.

Jay Leno has admitted to not being a "Ferrari guy," or at least a "modern Ferrari guy," but as far as classic Ferraris go, the comedian still has a soft spot for them. So when fellow comedian Adam Carolla brought his classic Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 to show Leno, the two car nuts proceeded to talk car chops about the iconic Ferrari model.

Built from 1964 to 1967, the 330 GT 2+2 holds a special appeal in the eyes of Ferrari collectors. Carolla’s model, in particular, looks especially fresh given the years it already has out on the road. It doesn’t command the same drool as the Ferrari 250 , but it’s no less a collector’s piece.

As soon as their two-man discussion finished, Carolla gave Leno the keys to the 330 GT 2+2 for a nice test drive. That’s when things turned to pure comedy as the 330 GT 2+2 first runs out of gas before developing a vibration that ended up getting caused by an improperly lubricated speedomenter cable that eventually led to the actual needle to fall off.

Great stuff, as always, from two of the funniest car nuts around.

The GT500KR is powered by a supercharged 5.4 liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 540 HP at 6,250 RPM and a peak torque of 510 lbs.-ft at 4,500 RPM. The car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds.

This is one of those rare opportunities where one lucky person can be the proud owner of a vehicle once driven by an automotive legend. It’s not going to come cheap, but it will be absolutely worth it.
