For a lot of us, trying to understand the inner workings of a race car and comprehend all the engineering details that come with it is an exercise in futility.
But for those who spend their lives in pursuit of building the fastest and most powerful race car they can develop, it’s a rush like no other.
In this promotional video, we’re taken for an behind-the-scenes look at the development of construction of the Chevrolet Corvette C7.R , the new Corvette race car that recently made its worldwide debut. Far be it for us to wax about how the racer was built, we’re instead leaving it to Pratt & Miller, the people who were actually behind the development of the Corvette C7.R to take us on a four-minute documentary showing exactly the science that was used in building a race car that’s already being touted as 40 percent stronger than the model it’s replacing, the C6.R.
The video stops short in giving the race car’s actual performance numbers, although we do know that a naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter, V-8 engine with direct injection is going to be used. That’s the extent of it, but as far as seeing the race car in action is concerned, we won’t have to wait too long because the Corvette C7.R is scheduled to compete in the Rolex 24 at the Daytona International Speedway this weekend.
We’re going to have our eyes and ears on full alert to observe how Chevrolet’s new endurance race car is going to handle now that it’s ready to smell the air of real competition.
