1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport in Fast Five

Who would have thought that when The Fast and The Furious came out ten years ago, it would give birth to five movies that would turn just about anyone into a car-lovin’, rubber burnin’ gearhead? We may not have seen the last installment just yet – it comes out on April 29, 2011 - but the trailers and spoilers lead us to believe that it will be just as bad-ass, if not more so, then the first four movies.

Why do we love the Fast and Furious franchise? Any answer other than the beautiful and heart-thumping rides would just be automotive blasphemy. These actors get to toy around in some incredible vehicles, including Vin Diesel’s latest go-around in a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport . This latest Fast and Furious edition has been specifically built by Mongoose Motors to be driven off-road in the desert/train sequences of the new movie. There are actually five replicas of the Grand Sport and we can only assume that if any made it past this production, they will certainly be going to highest bidder at some point.

Next to a GT40 and a Classic 1971 Pantera, the Corvette Grand Sport will be among the cars featured in the first scenes, but the list of cars featured in the movie is much, much longer. We don’t want to ruin the surprise, but expect to also see a 370Z , an LFA , CCX , and a Porsche GT3 .

Exterior and Interior

Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport in Fast Five

The Grand Sport replica was built on a a custom fabricated tube-frame steel chassis from the fourth generation Corvette, but with design elements similar to the Grand Sport launched back in the ’60s. By paying special attention to every detail, Mongoose managed to obtain a perfect replica of the sports car.

The car features a GS frame designed by Altair engineering - one of the largest aircraft-engineering firms in the country - and a suspension from 88-96MY Corvettes with fully adjustable front and rear coil over shocks. The hood, doors, and deck lid are all custom made and seem to fit perfectly with the overall scheme of the car.

Mongoose Motors couldn’t hold anything back when deciding on the engine for this bad boy, after all, the movie is called Fast Five. So to live up to the name, they placed a 502-cubic-inch GM big-block V8 rated at 502 hp. It’s not as impressive as the original engine used in the Grand Sport model, but it’s close enough to be just as awesome. Back in 1963, Chevrolet was using a 377 cubic inch displacement, all-aluminum, small block with four Weber side-draft carburetors, rated at 550 HP.

This is the part where we are expected to say that the Grand Sport was only created for the movie and will never see production or pricing, but that is thankfully not true. You will be happy to know that Mongoose Motors not only creates special vehicles for the big screen, but they can also build you your very own for about $69,995, minus the drivetrain. If you are only interested in the special Grand Sport created specifically for the movie, then you better hope some movie buff snags it up and then sells it at an auction for a profit. That’s the only way any of us will be getting one.

Fast Five trailer

Hero of the day” as they called it. Well, building myself my own replica version really cost much money and its seems that wealthy folks don’t have problem regarding this matter.

With its grand appearance in the movie which earned a tons of moolah, I wonder if they are planning to make a upgrade and modified version for this car?hehe

It seems that “hero” car was just abandoned after the train scene! And it seems that’s the reason why it was just a replica! Well, let’s just wait for the next chapter of this movie.

I have watched this movie and I would say that like the previous there are still boring part and the storyline is not that interesting. However, I love the volt and car chasing scene!hehehe

I wonder if this car performs the same in the real life. However, the explosion of the train in the beginning is the good start to be thrilled for the next scene!

I have watched the video. And I would say that they just dumped out this car after its seen the train scene. Well, I guess that’s the reason why its just a replica!

When I first saw the trailer of this movie. I really can’t wait to watched it.
Although it doesn’t have an interesting storyline still the cars keeps me going. I hope this wouldn’t the last installment of this movie.

Heck! This movie has been quite successful on it debut! However, I heard some says that this movie . Hmm. Guess, what we have expected was right , the storyline is not good except for the cars!

Until now, the performance of the Corvette never fails and this vintage really stand out in the movie! Though, I just wonder if Dodge Avenger will perform good better if used in this scenesmiley

Wow! So this is the car used in one of the best scene that I watched from the movie, Fast Five. However, I think there’s a great possibility that this car perform the same in real situation!

This car jump over the train and fall in the huge body of water. That was a great stunt for Fast Five. I am so happy to see this car on this site. I kept on looking all over the net to collate all info of different cars used in this movie.

I have seen the teaser video where it shows the heroic role of the Grand Sport and how it saves the say! I Was impressed with the performance of this car and it makes me wonder
if it has an amazing performance in real life?

This is definitely the hero car. Well, I have watched the thriller of this movie and the action scene are quite interesting.

Well, just recently, Jay Leno makes a review for this car. Though its replica I just wonder of it performs the same in real life?

Yeah, I agree the only thing that I like in this movie are the cars but i don’t find the storyline of interesting.

Heck! Don’t tell me..they are going to auctioned this car..I think its better if they are going to donate in the museum!

Well, as expected, the movie is indeed making it big in the box office. That’s definitely a good one since I am looking forward too seeing this one as a success again.

Hey! Its showing today! Go guys and reserved a ticket to t he nearest cinema and watch the full movie!

I wonder if that whole car-jumping-off-train scene is an actual stunt or is completely computer generated. It would be fun if it were the former.

I just wonder what they need to used this vintage car for the action and let it burned! They should treat this car with respect.
