Who would have thought that when The Fast and The Furious came out ten years ago, it would give birth to five movies that would turn just about anyone into a car-lovin’, rubber burnin’ gearhead? We may not have seen the last installment just yet – it comes out on April 29, 2011 - but the trailers and spoilers lead us to believe that it will be just as bad-ass, if not more so, then the first four movies.

Why do we love the Fast and Furious franchise? Any answer other than the beautiful and heart-thumping rides would just be automotive blasphemy. These actors get to toy around in some incredible vehicles, including Vin Diesel’s latest go-around in a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. This latest Fast and Furious edition has been specifically built by Mongoose Motors to be driven off-road in the desert/train sequences of the new movie. There are actually five replicas of the Grand Sport and we can only assume that if any made it past this production, they will certainly be going to highest bidder at some point.

Next to a GT40 and a Classic 1971 Pantera, the Corvette Grand Sport will be among the cars featured in the first scenes, but the list of cars featured in the movie is much, much longer. We don’t want to ruin the surprise, but expect to also see a 370Z->ke3043, an LFA->ke2181, CCX, and a Porsche GT3->ke617.

Exterior and Interior

The Grand Sport replica was built on a a custom fabricated tube-frame steel chassis from the fourth generation Corvette, but with design elements similar to the Grand Sport launched back in the '60s. By paying special attention to every detail, Mongoose managed to obtain a perfect replica of the sports car.

The car features a GS frame designed by Altair engineering - one of the largest aircraft-engineering firms in the country - and a suspension from 88-96MY Corvettes with fully adjustable front and rear coil over shocks. The hood, doors, and deck lid are all custom made and seem to fit perfectly with the overall scheme of the car.

Engine

Mongoose Motors couldn't hold anything back when deciding on the engine for this bad boy, after all, the movie is called Fast Five. So to live up to the name, they placed a 502-cubic-inch GM big-block V8 rated at 502 hp. It's not as impressive as the original engine used in the Grand Sport model, but it's close enough to be just as awesome. Back in 1963, Chevrolet was using a 377 cubic inch displacement, all-aluminum, small block with four Weber side-draft carburetors, rated at 550 HP.

Pricing

This is the part where we are expected to say that the Grand Sport was only created for the movie and will never see production or pricing, but that is thankfully not true. You will be happy to know that Mongoose Motors not only creates special vehicles for the big screen, but they can also build you your very own for about $69,995, minus the drivetrain. If you are only interested in the special Grand Sport created specifically for the movie, then you better hope some movie buff snags it up and then sells it at an auction for a profit. That's the only way any of us will be getting one.
