A standard-length model, available 2nd-row side airbags, and a new engine option mark 2006 for Chevrolet's minivans. Uplander mimics Buick Terraza, Pontiac Montana SV6, and Saturn Relay as an SUV-flavored update of GM's 1997-2004 minivan design. Only Chevy offers a regular-length version, which comes only with front-wheel drive in LS trim.

Newly optional on front-drive extended-length models of the Chevrolet Uplander is a 240-hp 3.9 V6 (196-hp with AWD). Both engines use a 4-speed automatic transmission. All Uplanders come with antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and 17-inch wheels. Uplanders seat seven by 2nd-row buckets and a 50/50 split 3rd-row bench that folds flat atop the cargo floor; all these seats are removable. Front side airbags continue as standard on LT models, are optional on LS versions.

For '06, separate side airbags for the 2nd row are standard with AWD and available otherwise. Both front and 2nd row airbags are designed to provide head and torso protection. Dual sliding rear side doors are standard, with power operation available. Also standard are OnStar assistance, CD/MP3 player, rear DVD entertainment, and a roof-rail system with optional snap-on storage modules. Satellite radio and a remote engine start are available. Uplander is also available as a 2-seat commercial cargo van.
