In the rough and tumble world of pick-up trucks, the constant development for the baddest, meanest, and most powerful off-roader is a constant race for automakers determined to build the most imposing of them all and find the one that can be called the kingpin of all-utility vehicles. At the International Motor Show in Buenos Aires, Chevrolet->ke199 introduced their latest offering to the fold, the Colorado Rally Concept. Next the concept will be making its way to Franfurt for its European premiere.

Based on the Colorado->ke1193 line of pick-ups that are considered one of the most popular in the world, the Colorado Rally Concept is the latest iteration concept that shows the new direction Chevrolet is undertaking for their next-generation off-roaders, particularly those that have rally racing in their future.

"Chevrolet has built trucks right from the start and they are an essential part of our brand. Through its purposeful design, refinement and uncompromising capability, the Colorado Rally Concept creatively reinterprets our proud heritage," said Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe.

Exterior

Power begets power, so they say, and the Colorado Rally Concept has been developed for that specific purpose. It comes with a 5.5-horsepower winch on both the front and rear bumpers with a 23-meter-long steel cable and a 4-ton traction capacity. Likewise, it has been fitted with 140-mm high-performance shock absorbers with a height-adjustable suspension, external LED lights all around, a White Pearl paint finish on the exterior, and a set of 18" aluminum rims wrapped in 305/60R18 tires.

Interior

Inside the cabin, Chevrolet dressed up the Colorado Rally Concept with a contrasting interior dash in ash-colored leather with matching orange stitching for the sport seats. It also comes with a roll cage - for rally purposes, hence the name - and a center console that features rally-related items like a tire pressure adjustment switch, a button that operates fire extinguishers, and a control that adjusts the dampers of the pick-up truck. A couple of technological features that are part of the Colorado Rally Concept include an Air Boost system that allows for air in the cabin to be replaced courtesy of a compressed air system, and a Hydration Pack that ensures that both the driver and his co-pilot remain hydrated whilst competing in the middle of a rally race.

Engine

The performance numbers of the pick-up's powertrain have yet to be announced, but what we do know is that this hulking rally racer will come with a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine, similar to another recent Chevy concept - the 2012 Colorado Show Truck - that was unveiled earlier this year in Bangkok, Thailand.
