2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06R GT3

The last time a Corvette raced in the Super GT no one knew who Justin Bieber was and Jersey Shore was just a geographical location. Yes, it was back in 2008 and A&S Racing was putting the Corvette C06 to the test. Now, after three years, the Corvette will once again enter one of the greatest Japanese competitions. RUNUP Sports has announced their full season participation plan for the GT300 with a Corvette Z06R GT3. The car will be driven by Masahiro Matsunaga, Kazuyoshi Okamura, and Atsushi Tanaka, with car maintenance during the season provided by Tomei sports.

The sports team has yet to announce any official details on the car, but the pictures look extremely promising. Well, as promising as pictures can look when dealing with the amount of power for a racer. The exterior and interior only underwent minor modifications such as installing that huge rear wing and the added roll cage for proper protection during the race. All in all, the car was changed up to be more aerodynamic and win some competitions! That’s all we have as of now, so good luck guys!

UPDATE 03/03/2011: Like unwrapping a present at Christmas, the Corvette GT3 arrived at the DHL compound at the Narita airport ready to get down to business. Thankfully, a tipster was there to take a few photos of the race car. Check out the photos in the gallery provided!

We also heard that the car will be doing its first shake down next week. We’ll keep you posted!

UPDATE 04/18/2011: We promised an update and so here we are with more pictures of the Corvette Z06R GT3. This time, they were taken at Fuji Speedway after the vehicle’s first testing since the earthquake. Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip, Tony!

Promising indeed because on its very neat exterior appearance! Its green headlight also adds more angst and aggressive looks on it. However, I wonder if what’s the engine specification of this one?

The look of the car is so promising, but I am confused and amazed with the color of the headlights. I am not against with the color green, but I think it didn’t really suit for the image of this Z06R.

In my opinion, the green headlight for this sports car did not fit for this one, but I do like its curves. However, I don’t see other speculations of this car, and maybe we can wait for other updates and also to watch the testing video of this GT3.

Guys, where can I see the testing video for the Z06R GT3? I bet this would be a powerful production since it take two long years before come back of this car was announced,

hmm. I wonder on what would be the speed performance of the car? And when the Chevy will debut this production model. I’m glad that the Corvette’s production is active once again.

hmm. For a sportscar, I think the exterior seems to be bloat loaded. However, since this car is belong to the Corvette family I think it will perform great either in the road or race track.

Yay! What is that.. a wider version for a racing car?hmm. I don’t like its stretched body type. And I wonder on how this car will perform in the race track.

Extremely great sports Z06R car has a promising driving experience. No one can ever compete with the total performance.

Nice, it’s really great to see the Z06R getting some well deserved track time. This definitely makes the beauty of the car even more. Hope they release a video of this the next time.

Less detailing for more speed I guess. But I think its too bland. I can’t see any aggressiveness in this car. I want to see it once the car is done.

The front looks like a Porsche and its less detailing. I find the hood so huge and the air intake so small. I wonder what will be the speed performance of this car?

Nice, this baby is really looking better every time I see a new photo of it. Hope they would finally released a video of it in the tracks, that one would certainly be a must see.

With the way that the Z06R is looking tight now, I really won’t be surprised if it delivers an outstanding performance in the races. This one is definitely going to be a spectacle to watch.

Wow, this is definitely one of the coolest looking cars that I have seen in the Super GT lineup this year. And yeah, it’s definitely great to see the Corvette in the race again.

Yay! The Corvette is finally returning to Super GT. Their two year absence seemed quite a long one for me. And the Z06R is definitely a good choice for a comeback.

While I agree that the steering wheel and the seats are very bad for a sports car... the rest of the interior is pretty good, especially with the with all the leather on the dash and doors.

its been a quiet sometimes since i last saw the c6. I thought the interior was pretty nice..911 is much nicer!

I’ll have one someday

I love this car!
