Immediately following the release of the ultra cool Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, Chevolet->ke199 has announced the introduction of a new trim level for the muscle car showing up sometime in 2012. So, in addition to the LC, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, and 2SS, customers will also be able to opt for the Camaro LFX powered by a 3.6 liter V6 engine with E85 capability.

This new trim level for the Chevrolet Camaro comes with an updated version of the engine used in models like the Cadillac CTS->ke1200, SRX->ke1735, and Chevy Equinox->ke1784. The engine features a composite intake manifold, integrated exhaust manifolds, and optimized NVH/airflow treatments that allow the 270hp typically delivered by the engine to increase to anywhere from 325-330hp.

There will be no major changes made to either the interior or the exterior, but there will obviously be an LSX badge to distinguish it from the other models in the line-up. Expect to see the new model debut sometime this year with sales to begin in early 2012.

Exterior and Interior

Like all the models in the line-up, the Camaro LFX will be distinguished by a long front dash-to-axle and short rear deck, a sleek windshield profile, wheels pushed to the corners, and a muscular fender.

The interior will be distinguished by high quality leather, a sports steering wheel, and different aluminum inserts.

The Engine

This new Camaro version will be powered by a new 3.6 liter V6 engine tuned to deliver somewhere between 325 to 330 HP. This engine also comes with E85 capability giving the Camaro a chance to deliver quite an impressive fuel consumption for a 300 HP model.

When Can I Buy One?

The new Camaro LFX V6 will make its debut sometime in 2011 with sales to begin in 2012. Current 2011 model pricing starts at $22,680, so we imagine that this newest trim level will add plenty more benjamins to the equation.

The Competition

The list of competitors includes models like the Dodge Challenger and the Ford Mustang.

The Challenger is only offered in four trim levels - Challenger, Rallye, R/T, and SRT version - giving the Camaro the advantage on that front. However, the engine's output ranges from 305 HP to 475 HP, which means that the Challenger can still outmuscle the Camaro.

The 2011 Mustang V6 is powered by a 3.7 Liter six cylinder engine that puts out a total of 305 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque combined with a fuel efficient six speed automatic transmission, leaving Camaro with the edge. On the flip side, prices for the V6 Mustang start at $20,114, which we will assume is much cheaper than the future Camaro LFX.
