Many of us have been waiting for the arrival of the next-generation Corvette C7 for quite some time. It’s not so much because we are hardcore Corvette lovers or even because the next generation is getting any dramatic changes to pique our interest, but with so many changes in regulations and the growing awareness of the environment - and the effects that has on our wallets - we were just curious to see if Chevrolet would be biting the bullet and straying away from their trademark V8 engine. A few months ago we shared a video of Chevrolet chief engineer, Tadge Juechter, getting very defensive over the company’s beloved Corvette and it became clear that the next generation would still carry the V8 engine that has gotten them this far, but it would be getting some changes to move with the times. UPDATE 11/08/2011: Ever since Chevrolet announced that they were preparing to launch the seventh generation Corvette, we have heard all kind of rumors about the new model. According to GM Inside News, though, most of these rumors will remain just that. In the past, people have said that the C7 Corvette would be offered with a split rear window - like the one first seen on the 1963 Stingray - but GM has now confirmed that the car’s general design language - surprise surprise - will actually be very similar to the current model. The company has stated that it will be more evolutionary rather than revolutionary. The interior will get higher quality materials and there will be a 6.2-liter engine mated to a seven-speed manual transmission under the hood. Its official debut will be made in mid-2013. UPDATE 04/19/2012: The next generation Corvette has been caught on video by a very lucky Youtube member. The video isn’t the best quality, but it still gives us a glimpse of the future of the iconic American sportscar. Hit the jump for the video! More details on the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette after the jump. It has been said that the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette - and not 2011 as originally planned - will be utilizing a 5.5L small block V8 engine in its front engine, rear wheel drive platform and will actually get more horsepower than the typical 6.2L and 7.0L engines used in the past. With this engine, the Corvette would end up with 440HP, about 5 HP up from the previous generation, and will also feature better fuel economy to boot. The engine will come with a revised combustion system and an aluminum block and heads. Some rumors suggest that the new generation Corvette will adopt a European-style, small-block, turbocharged V8 engine. According to TheDetroitBureau.com, the new engine will only be slightly larger than 3 liters in displacement and will be of an overhead-cam, rather than traditional overhead-valve design, using a dry sump oil system that’s particularly well-suited to high-performance road courses rather than straight-line acceleration. This engine would be able to provide only 400 HP, or about 125 HP per liter. The engine won’t be the only defining change, that we can be sure of. Rumors suggest that Chevrolet will finally be bumping up the quality of the materials used in the sports car - ending what seems to be generations of poor quality complaints - and will be putting in higher end seats similar to buckets seats. If they expect to keep up with the times, then we would suggest putting in a few technological advances. If the Ford Focus can get all teched out, then the Corvette should be able to dazzle us with something. As it turns out, Chevrolet may be having a bit of trouble coming up with the right formula to pull the iconic sports car out of the sales gutter. In a recent interview with Automotive News, Ed Welburn, GM’s Global Design head, said that designing the next Corvette has been a real challenge: "Everyone wants to design a Corvette, but it is hard work. Finding that right balance is a challenge. You want it to be a new design, but it needs to be recognizable as a Corvette. You don’t want to be the guy who screwed it up." 57 comments: Chevrolet Corvette This car will surely give us a high-quality performance on the road. And this is really an eye-catcher because of its cool look. Corvette lovers will surely wait for its arrival.
This 6th generation of Chevrolet Corvette maintained its traditional proportions with a long and low nose, a high and stout rear deck. I hope this Chevrolet car will improve its performance.
The angst of this car is really impressive, the exterior design is really an eye catcher even with the wheels and one more thing the headlights at the front is so cool but I must agree with them that the engine that they want to use is not a good choice.
Well, even if that one didn’t push through, there are still a lot to look forward to from them. And this is certainly the one that I would be waiting to know more about.
I remember hearing about a rumored mid engine Corvette that Chevy is supposedly developing. Well, this one is apparently not that, and that one will probably stay just a rumor.
That one is definitely something to be happy about. The previous generation Corvettes were great cars, though there were still improvements that were needed.
Well, even if that one didn’t push through, there are still a lot to look forward from them. And this is certainly the one that I would be waiting to know more about.
One thing that I am really excited about with this one is the fact that they are now finally introducing high-grade materials into the Corvette. This will definitely improve the quality of the car a lot.
Well, it seems that everyone is so fond with this corvette, and I really can’t blame them why, for the fact that this vehicle truly improves a lot on its platform and design. Good thing as well that it has a nice engine.
