Chevrolet cars

Everything is more grandiose in Dubai, so says people who have been in the Middle Eastern country. Apparently, even the cars of the local law enforcement and emergency agencies fit that bill.

We already know the impressive list of vehicles the Dubai Police Force has at its disposal, but as it turns out, even the country’s fire department has its own special vehicles.

This photo, taken by the folks over at [Drive Arabia], shows a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray donning the colors of the Dubai Fire Brigade. We don’t really know how the car itself is going to handle actual fires, but it does make for a good publicity stunt for the fire department to show that the police force isn’t the only agency that can have its roster of its exotics .

The Corvette Stingray itself comes with the eye-catching red and yellow livery of the fire brigade. To make it look the part of a real fire department vehicle, lightbars were installed, as well as graphics saying "Dubai Civil Defense" on both doors.

Compared to what we normally see our fire departments drive around these days, it’s safe to say that this Corvette Stingray stands out among all of them for all the right publicity reasons.

Chevrolet expanded its Sonic lineup with the addition of two new sedan models: the Sonic RS and Sonic Dusk. Both will go on sale in spring 2014 and will be manufactured at Orion Assembly in Michigan. The first of them, Sonic RS, will be priced at $20,530 including $825 destination.

The new Sonic RS sedan is offered with the same Ecotec 1.4 liter turbo engine found in the Sonic RS hatchback, which delivers a total of 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a standard six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic.

There will also be a sport-tuned suspension and lowered ride height for better handling and a sportier look. Fuel economy will also be identical to the hatchback at 27 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway on manual transmission-equipped models.

The covers have finally been pulled off the last new member of the Chevrolet truck lineup and we couldn’t be more excited. The 2015 Chevy Colorado debuted today at the LA Auto show joining the still fresh Silverado and Silverado HD.

The Colorado is based on the global truck platform, but is highly ‘Americanized’ with many key components swapped out for heavier-duty items based on the new Silverado. The Colorado rides on a fully-boxed, hydroformed steel frame giving it a sturdy platform for hauling and towing. Initially the Colorado will come with two gasoline engine options with a diesel debuting the following year.

The base powerplant is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with an optional 3.6-liter, V-6 engine. Both feature the latest suite of GM technology, like variable valve timing and direct injection. They share similar construction materials with aluminum blocks, forged-steel crankshafts, and oil jet-spray piston coolers. A Six-speed automatic transmission is standard across the board and features tow/haul mode and auto grade braking.

Exterior features include Chevy’s clever bumper CornerStep and bed rail hand-grabs, an EZ lift tailgate, two-tier loading capabilities within the bed, and no less than 13 tie-downs for securing payload. Available projector beam headlamps light the way while front bumper tow hooks provide a means of recovery if the going ever gets too muddy. Silverado-derived inlaid doors with triple seals keeps wind noise to a minimum while active aero grille shutters open and close to maximize aerodynamics and cooling efficiency.

Interior accoutrements are similar to the Silverado with a large, pronounced center stack with similar knobs and buttons. An available eight-inch color touchscreen inhabits the prime real estate up top while multiple USB ports down low live in a specially designed front compartment for charging personal electronics. A center console-mounted gear shifter splits the front bucket seats and gives plenty of storage options big enough for hiding a tablet safely out of sight. GM’s next-generation OnStar and MyLink are also present, along with a standard rear-view backup camera.

The folks at General Motors say the new Colorado is designed for customers who want the extra capabilities a truck offers like hauling and off-road agility, but don’t need the size and expense of a full-side truck. GM is now the first manufacturer in quite a while to offer a full plethora of mid-sized, full-sized, and heavy-duty trucks. Our hats are especially off to the fact that GM revamped its entire truck lineup within a two year model cycle.

Somewhere along the way, people have continuously slept on the Chevrolet SS as a performance-minded sedan that’s ready for its turn of the spotlight.

With aftermarket tuners like Callaway on its side, the SS is primed and ready to be the car we all thought it would be. Callaway knows what its doing when it comes to Chevrolet vehicles and the program it prepared for the SS just goes to show how far the performance sedan can go when treated with a nice dose of tender love.

The unquestioned highlight of Callaway’s program is the engine upgrade, which comes with an extensive list of new components, including an Eaton Roots-style TVS supercharger system, liquid-to-air intercooler, increased-flow-rate fuel injectors, a high-flow intake system, and a low-restriction exhaust system, all of which lets the car’s 6.2-liter, V-8 engine produce a staggering 570 horsepower and 535 pound-feet of torque — a nice increase from the stock 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of twist. This is good enough to allow the SS to cover 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds — down from teh stock 4.9 seconds — to go with a top speed of somewhere in the neighborhood of 180 mph.

A few other pertinent features highlight Callaway’s program for the SS, including the tuner’s badging on the car, embroidered seat mats, and key fobs, among others.

Unlike Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart, Brad Paisley doesn’t race cars for a living. But like Gordon and Stewart, Paisley did have a signature model present at the 2013 SEMA Auto Show .

The American singer-songwriter and musician has collaborated with Chevrolet designers to introduce an edgy program for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado . Seems appropriate, too, since Paisley is mostly known as a country star and the Silverado is built for the country.

But we digress...

The Brad Paisley Signature Silverado combines elements from Paisley’s background with a sophisticated list of components that not only brings new life to the Silverado, but also gives it much more attitude.

The custom-blended paint scheme of the customized Silverado is as all-American as it can get, and it even incorporates Paisley’s logo on the front doors as their own unique styling elements. A host of aero components were also installed, including a performance-oriented hood extractor vent, black tubular assist steps, and a tailgate aero lip. A set of 22-inch, custom-painted, matte-black wheels, chrome tow hooks, and a spray-in bedliner with an integrated Chevrolet bowtie logo were also added to the program courtesy of Chevrolet Accessories.

Moving to the interior, the Paisley Signature Silverado was equipped with a sophisticated color and trim, featuring blue suede inserts on the black leather seats, which, in turn, have been accented with blue stitching. The cabin is all sorts of blue, which plays in nicely with the exterior.

Performance enhancements are also part of the program, including a suspension system that lowered the pickup by two inches. A Borla performance exhaust system and red brake calipers round out the comprehensive features list of the Paisley Signature Silverado.

The new seats gracing the floor pans in the 2014 Corvette Stingray C7 answer perhaps the largest complaint lodged against the outgoing C6 Corvette. Those seats were nearly flat, lacking anything that remotely looked like side bolsters and were constructed of a flimsy plastic backing that did little to support the occupants during hard cornering. Adding to the problem, the old C6 seats would flop forward under heavy braking whether it was occupied or not.

Chevrolet stepped to the plate with not one, but two seat options in the new Vette. Both seats are tailored for different driving styles and owner preferences.

The Standard GT seat is geared towards the everyday driver; the guy who carves more canyon roads than hairpin corners at the racetrack each weekend. The Competition Sport seat, on the other hand, is more suited for what its name implies. Engineers started from scratch with both seats and used extensive testing to create two industry standard seats fitting of the C7’s new performance levels.

One of the cool things that happens at the SEMA Auto Show is that you get to see a bunch of the cars in attendance head to various auctions. During last week’s show, a pair of custom Chevrolet Camaros were revealed, and they are are now heading to the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale this coming January.

The two Camaros, called the Linda Vaughn LV-1 Editions, were inspired by the woman many consider the "First Lady of Motorsports." Jack ’Doc’ Watson also designed the two Camaros to pay homage to the friendship between the two individuals — a bond that has lasted for over 50 years.

Both Camaros come with color combinations that also harkens back to Watson’s old black/gold and white/gold color schemes for Hurst and Oldsmobile models of yesteryear. The gold, in particular, was also added to serve as inspiration to Linda Vaughn’s "Miss Hurst Golden Shifter" nickname.

Both cars are considered one-offs (or two-offs, if you want to group both together) with each coming with a host of identifiable badging, fancy sets of wheels, and complete warranty and service policies. No performance modifications were added, but for cars that will be as sought after as these two, you don’t need that added horsepower to make it any more special.

Like we said, the two Linda Vaughn LV-1 Camaros will be auctioned off this January by Barrett-Jackson with the proceeds from both cars going to The International Kids Alliance Network — a charity dedicated to exciting teaching tools for kids and eliminating illiteracy.

Chevrolet Jeff Gordon SS Performance Sedan Concept

With performance sedans, like the Ford Taurus SHO and the Dodge Charger R/T , having some success in the U.S., General Motors had little choice than to call upon its Australian division — Holden — for a car that could tap into this market and succeed. That’s exactly how the Chevrolet SS became a reality

Both the Taurus SHO and the Charger R/T have plenty of options, and the Charger even has a slew of new performance options, like the upcoming Scat Packages . All this while, GM has started shipping Chevrolet SS units into the U.S. from Down Under, resulting in only a few basic options and no real driveline options to speak of.

In Australia, the Holden Commodore — the model that the SS is based on — has 455- and 580-horsepower variants available from Holden Special Vehicles (HSV). This raised some red flags with performance nuts.

Automotive Magazine brought this to the attention of Chevrolet Performance Cars Marketing Manager, John Fitzpatrick, and he provided some positive feedback. When asked about future plans for the Chevrolet Chevrolet SS, he revealed that a more powerful version of the Chevrolet SS could possibly makes its way to the U.S., including a manual transmission.

Fitzpatrick said that GM is planning on selling 2,000 to 3,000 SS models per year, and if these numbers are met, GM will start further exploring importing the aforementioned HSV variants. He made it clear that the limited options and lack of higher-performance models is purely to keep the model profitable, while GM gauges customer demand in the SS.

Needless to say, this is pretty promising to hear, and may relieve the concerns among Chevy fans.

Quanta Products from Maryland opened a new division called Quanta Hybrid Performance that will be specialized on developing "products that integrate electric traction motors into conventional internal combustion engine."

The first model developed by Quanta is the Corvette QHP770 and was unveiled at the 2013 SEMA Show . The model is based on a C6 Z06 Chevrolet Corvette with the V-8 engine modified to include hybrid technology.

The model includes both hardware and software updates, including two 100 kW YASA 750 axial flux electric motors into the rear differential. These electric motors will take their power from a 400-volt, 30 Ah battery pack coupled through two Sevcon controllers.

Thanks to this system, the new QHP770 delivers a total of 770 horsepower — up from 505 horsepower — and 1,500 pound-feet of torque. We have no details on how these changes will improve the car’s performance credentials, but we expect to see considerable improvements over the base model.

If Jeff Gordon can have his own Chevrolet SS signature model at SEMA , there’s no reason for Chevrolet to tap another famous NASCAR driver to have his own model too, right?

That, apparently, was the prevailing thought at the Bowtie headquarters and to answer that question, the company enlisted Tony Stewart’s help to develop a custom Chevrolet Silverado .

It seems appropriate that the man known as "Smoke" can have his imprint on a pickup truck with the torque-twisting power of the Silverado. It certainly takes a pickup the stature of the Silverado to live up to Stewart’s brash and go get-’em driving style on the track and the marriage couldn’t have been made any better.

The concept itself is based on the 2014 Silverado LTZ Z71, and it was designed with an exterior that comes with a Dark Tarnished Silver color, tinted headlights and taillights, and plenty of unique graphics that point back to the man who has won three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series titles.

A handful of Chevrolet Accessories components, a lot of which are available through Chevy dealers, were also used on the concept, including a tonneau cover, four-inch chrome assist steps and a set of 22-inch wheels with a custom finish.

The interior modifications are limited to just Stewart’s signature embroidered on the headrests, but make no mistake, this concept Silverado has the likeness of Smoke all the way through.
