2010 - 2011 Chevron GR8

The Chevron GR8 (Gran Rapida) is a lightweight racing car that debuted in 2010. It was the first GT Chevron race car that was built since the 60s and 70s race cars created by Derek Bennett. The new Chevron GR8 was given the original design, but with a modern twist, as well as new equipment.

The car is powered by a 2.0 liter four cylinder engine that delivers a total of 260 HP and sprints the car to a top speed of 150 mph. The engine is coupled to a Hewland JFR 5 speed sequential transmission and is built to run for 30 hours without needing attention.

German racer and TV presenter, Tim Schrick recently tested the race car and said: "I’ve fallen in love with this car. It’s so beautiful to drive. It’s such a nice car, and right up my street, as a racer. The grip levels are amazing. And the little car is so stable, with a stiff, direct and totally connected steering feeling. It feels very nimble, and it’s so loud and exciting inside, with a very, very nice sound from the Cosworth two-liter engine. You have 260bhp on tap and even here with these great cars on track, you can play with anyone, and not get beaten."

Exterior and Interior

Chevron GR8

The GR8 is designed as a modern interpretation of the classic Chevron B8 competition GT. It is being built in high grade, high strength steel and aluminum, and has a spaceframe, semi monocoque structure.

The interior of the race car doesn’t get too much attention, but does benefit from a Pi Omega LCD electronic dashboard and Cosworth electronics.

Performance

A Cosworth 2.0 liter inline four-cylinder engine benefiting from a Pectel PiRQ4 ECU. This, together with a Hewland JFR 5 speed sequential gearbox, can produce an output of 260 HP and can sprint the car to a top speed of 150 mph. The reworked engine is built to run for 30 hours without any attention.

For a race car, 260 HP isn’t much to work with, but control is still needed to keep the driver safe. For this, Chevron has installed AP Racing brakes, Proflex shock absorbers, a Chevron Racing Cars suspension, and race ready tires with S L Corse Speedline wheels.

Chevron is also preparing a B19 Works car – a brand new, 2011 car, re-built to the same exacting standards and design that Chevron-founder, Derek Bennett had for the original in 1971. This model is powered by a Cosworth FVC 1790cc engine and comes with a Hewland FT200 gearbox and will be finished in a bright orange and black race livery.

Prices

The Chevron GR8 is available in Challenge Car or GT specifications, priced at £55,000 ($88,000) and £70,000 ($112,000) respectively. And, for retro racers, the Chevron B19 Works Car is available from £80,000 ($128,000), plus engine and gearbox costs.

Competition

Chevron GR8

The Chevron GR8 will be used in many GT series without much modification such as British GT, GT Cup, Britcar, Belcar plus local and European sports car series. In these races, the Chevron GR8 will have to take on models from Ferrari and Porsche.

I most definitely didn’t expect this, that’s why it has thoroughly astounded me. It’s fitted for competition!

I didn’t know that Chevron produces quality race cars. As soon as I saw this, my faith in Chevron has increased.

For a racing car, the styling is not that important. The deliver power output of this car kind of impressive. I wonder on how this car will perform in the race track.

Well, I have to say that the car have an impressive speed performance quite remarkable. I wonder on who is better this car or the Gemballa?

I thought Chevron is an oil company. As far as I know, it is their first racing prototype car, and it could be the beginning of their career in creating powerful race cars. By the way, I notice the headlights of the car, is it blocked?

How can you consider this vehicle as racing car if it has the similar power output with the diesel engine? I think Chevron needs to boost the figure performance of the car to make more reliable!

The produced power output of the car is not that impressive! I think this is the less powerful vehicle that I have seen so far and I don’t get why there’s a speed limit on this car?

Considering the performance of the car, for me, it is just fine. Not that fast but not also poor. They still need to remake this one, for reasons that they only have a small chance for winning a race.

Yeah, the figure performance of the car is equivalent to an ordinary sportscar. Although this vehicle is cheaper and it look so sporty. Well, its less powerful performance I would less to consider this vehicle.

For a racing car, its look doesn’t really matter besides, performance of the engine is the most important thing to consider. The power output of the vehicle is kind of disappointing for its kind of less powerful.

I think this car is quietly good for a Chevron. But if you notice its performance or power, I’d rather choose its competitors because its almost a kid in terms of power.

Hmm, I wonder if they would actually put this one into production. From the way I see it. It is actually quite promising. It would really be disappointing if the public don’t get to see this.

I really like it whenever I see a sports car that is not produced by the major manufacturers. It just goes to show that you really need not to be a big company to come up with a racer.

I wonder why they call this thing as a racing car it doesn’t even perform well. Now, i know why its cheap and its because of its low power output!

hmm. Does the power output of 260 HP is competitive enough in the race? Well, I think its less powerful and its kind of disappointing. I’m hoping to see a more aggressive engine! BTW, this car reminds me of the Apollo which is far better than this.

Well now, this one actually looks good. I love h0w they did the over all design of the car, which is really quite simple, but definitely breathtaking in its own right.
