With the 2012 North American International Auto Show just around the corner, renowned tuning firm Mopar has set its sights on a 2012 Chrysler 200 with a special edition model called the 200 Super S.
Set to debut in Detroit in the coming weeks, the 200 Super S showcases the latest in Mopar’s aerodynamic components that will be made available to the sedan beginning later this year.
"The Super S is Mopar’s interpretation of the Chrysler 200," said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. "The extensive list of high-quality Mopar parts enhances the performance and appearance of our Chrysler 200."
As you can imagine, Mopar is offering an extensive list of programs for the 200 that includes a Stage I aerodynamic program that includes a large chin spoiler, a satin chrome fog light trim, a satin chrome grille surround and mesh in the upper and lower grilles, a gloss black grille, new side sills, a satin chrome belt molding, black chrome "200" badges, a new trunk lid spoiler, a satin chrome light bar, a matte black lower diffuser with attached exhaust openings, and a new set of 18" "S" alloy wheels that come in either Gray or Hyper Black color options.
Adding to the pretty comprehensive Stage I program is the Stage II program, which comes with performance tweaks that include a new coil-over suspension, a new cold-air intake, and a new cat-back exhaust.
About the only downside to this model is that it doesn’t have any engine upgrades. That being said, the 200’s standard numbers are still impressive in their own right: a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that delivers 283 horsepower and 260 lb/ft of torque.
After focusing on the 300 in a series of variants, Chrysler has moved on to the 200 Convertible with the unveiling of the S version at the 2011 New York Auto Show. The 200 S Convertible features more luxury and sporty characteristics than the standard version with an improved exterior and interior look. It also gets a more powerful engine in the V6 variety to bump up the power from the standard model by 110 HP. The new 200 S Convertible will go on sale later this spring with prices starting from $32,490.
"The New York International Auto Show is the perfect place to debut the new 2011 Chrysler 200 S sedan and Chrysler 200 S convertible models," said Olivier Francois, President and CEO, Chrysler Brand – Chrysler Group LLC. "These vehicles are built with an unmistakable attitude and a signature style; and you could say the same of New York itself. The attitude may be ‘Imported from Detroit,’ but it’s definitely at home on Park Avenue."

After the sedan version was unveiled back in September, Chrysler has now decided to reveal the first official images of the future Chrysler 200 Convertible. According to the official statements made at the Detroit Auto Show, the new Chrysler 200 will be sold on the European market as the Lancia Flavia, both sedan and convertible and will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show this upcoming March.
The 200 Convertible’s design has been slightly modified in order to accommodate the roof folding mechanism. The engine line-up will also remain unchanged: a 2.4-liter I-4 World Gas Engine mated to either a four- or six-speed automatic transaxle, or the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transaxle. Most likely the European customers will also enjoy some diesel engines in their future Lancia Flavia, but none for the American market.

Having an auto show without any Mopar vehicles is like having a sundae without any whipped cream; it may still taste good, but it’s just not the same. Thankfully, we won’t have to experience that because the Detroit Auto Show will be chalk full of "Moparized" models. Among them there will be a Chrysler 200 Super S that has received the full on Mopar treatment.
To get to this final project as seen in the rendering released by Chrysler, Mopar started off with a 2011 Chrysler 200 which they then covered in a Black and Tungsten - which is just a fancy way of saying black and gray - paint scheme. After that, the tuners added a gloss black grille surround, a gloss black mesh grille, recessed wing badge, vented hood, and lower chin spoiler. Other small additions consist of a fog light bezel with light bar and brake induction openings. This rendering doesn’t show the back of the car, but if it did, we’d see a bright exhaust tip and a decklid spoiler. The exterior package is finished off with a new set of 19" wheels.
The interior won’t receive much in the way of anything, but it will get Katzkin leather seats and numerous black elements to go along with the exterior.
The Chrysler 200 Super S doesn’t get anything in the form of an engine modification, so we’re not sure if it can live up to the "Super" name. Guess we’ll have to wait and see just how fitting this name is when the Detroit Motor Show opens its doors next week.

Ladies and gentleman, the wait is now over. For the first time, we can now see the new Chrysler 200 in all its glory. The four-door sedan draws on the 200C concept for the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and it will replace the old and mostly despised Sebring. The 200 will get all-new front and rear lighting, fascias, and new mirrors and wheels. Yet, we can’t help but think this is just a refreshed Sebring. Thankfully, the changes that were made have helped immensely.
Powering the new 200 will be either a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that can be connected four-speed or six-speed automatic, or the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. Chrysler has yet to release any power numbers for these motors, but we should have some details in the next few months.
The interior has also been redone. There are cabin upgrades such as a new instrument panel, redesigned seats, acoustic laminated glass for lower sound levels, and revamped HVAC outlets, although there are no full interior pictures at this time. We are hoping that the 200 continues with the current trend of well built interiors that started with the Dodge Ram and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
