Charity auctions are always a great way to find special cars to buy, while also getting a chance to donate to a worthy cause. On Tuesday, March 20, 2012, the John Varvatos 9th Annual Stuart House Benefit will be host to an auction with a one-off, special edition Chrysler 300S designed by John Varvatos and inspired by his collections. All of the proceeds of the auction will benefit The Rape Foundation in support of Stuart House. Currently, the bid is at $48,546.

This special edition Chrysler 300S will be distinguished by a special set of custom 20" wheels in a satin carbon finish and a very cool black paint for the interior. The interior also get seats and door panels decorated with black woven leather details and flat woven Heather fabric which brings an elegant Menswear appeal to the vehicle. The instrument panel, console lid, and door armrest are wrapped in black leather, while the steering wheel features a black two-tone color combo with an accent 360 ring. All of these elements are combined with satin chrome finishes.

Under the hood, the engine remains unchanged: the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine delivers a total of 292 HP and is mated to an all-new segment-exclusive ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

For an ad that stirred so many emotions at last year’ Super Bowl, Chrysler had its work cut it for themselves in living up to the success ofEminem’s "Imported from Detroit" commercial.

Enter Clint Eastwood.

The multi-awarded actor and director was the star of Chrysler’s new Super Bowl commercial, "Halftime in America".

Just like last year, the focus of the ad is centered on the Motor City and how it has, time and again, risen from the despair and is in the process of writing its own comeback story.

Nothing evokes more emotion than inspiration and this is what Chrysler is looking for with the new ad. It may not carry the same raw emotion as that of Eminem’s ad from last year, but as sequels go, it’s hard not to be stirred by Eastwood’s raspy monologue, the visual images of Detroit’s resurgence, and the overall inspiring work of this ad.

For the second year in a row, Chrysler has done a masterful job with their Super Bowl commercial.

Chrysler is coming up with their own tagline for the 2012 Super Bowl, ’it’s halftime in America’. Instead of going for the usually funny commercial, they take a much stronger stance with a serious celebrity to replace Eminem. We like the patriotic spirit behind the commercial, and Chrysler is the perfect spokesperson to say that America is coming back. We need more commercials like these, especially during the Super Bowl. Good move Chrysler!.

UPDATE: It looks like the video has been removed because of some Copyrights claims from the NFL. Chrysler must have overlooked how picky the NFL is about their licensing fees. Too bad it was a good one.


The last and arguably most impressive program Chrysler and Mopar built to celebrate the latter’s 75th anniversary is the Mopar 300, a comprehensive tuning program built for the Chrysler 300 .

As a special edition model, the Mopar 300 is distinguished by a slew of aerodynamic and aesthetic modifications, including a new black chrome grille, tinted headlights, blue decal body stripes with matching special badging, and a new set of 20" wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. Meanwhile, interior modifications done on the Mopar 300 include perforated Katzkin leather seats, a thick-rimmed steering wheel with die-cast paddle shifters, carbon fiber trim, piano black accents, a new gear knob, an Alpine audio system, and a Uconnect Touch infotainment system.

Performance modifications include a sport-tuned suspension system, high-performance brakes, and revised gearing, improving the acceleration capabilities of the 300’s 363-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine from six seconds down to around five seconds.

Anybody looking to score a piece of this special edition, Mopar-tuned Chrysler 300 will get a chance to do so this summer when the car becomes available at a price of $49,700.


A few days ago, Chrysler created an official Facebook page for their upcoming SRT Viper and promised that if the page received 10,000 likes by February 1st, they would reveal a teaser image of the next Viper. As expected, the page had received 10,000 likes in just a few hours and now Chrysler has kept their promise. This first teaser image isn’t much, but at least it allows us an idea of how cool the new Viper will be.

As many already know, the future supercar will drop the "Dodge " name and will instead be simply called the SRT Viper. It has been rumored that the next generation Viper will keep its V10 engine, but unlike the previous generation, will use an 8.7 liter displacement instead. Output is believed to be in the 700 HP area.

The new SRT Viper will be making its world debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show in April. Stay tuned for more details!

Sitting in one corner of the 2012 North American International Auto Show is the Chrysler 700C Concept, an attendee that not a lot of people knew was coming.

We really didn’t expect to see it, much less know anything about it, but according to Chrysler , the 700C Concept - it follows in the naming nomenclature of two of Chrysler’s more popular models, the 200 and the 300C - is a concept study on what could potentially be the look of their mini-vans.

The American automaker is using the 2012 NAIAS to gauge the interest on the concept and while Chrysler has made it known that the car is not headed to production, it’s still in attendance to see how the crowd is going to receive it.

Consider it market research, so to speak.

As far as details are concerned, Chrysler didn’t really share any. Judging by the photos, though, the 700C Concept looks pretty svelte and stylish for a mini-van. The profile looks fresh and is dominated by a pair of slit-like headlights. The grilles are pretty much non-existent while the front bumper sports plenty of aggressive details. True to its mini-van roots, the 700C Concept has rear sliding doors, and almost as if adding more flavor, it sits on a set of pretty chromed-out wheels.

With the 2012 North American International Auto Show just around the corner, renowned tuning firm Mopar has set its sights on a 2012 Chrysler 200 with a special edition model called the 200 Super S.

Set to debut in Detroit in the coming weeks, the 200 Super S showcases the latest in Mopar’s aerodynamic components that will be made available to the sedan beginning later this year.

"The Super S is Mopar’s interpretation of the Chrysler 200," said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. "The extensive list of high-quality Mopar parts enhances the performance and appearance of our Chrysler 200."

As you can imagine, Mopar is offering an extensive list of programs for the 200 that includes a Stage I aerodynamic program that includes a large chin spoiler, a satin chrome fog light trim, a satin chrome grille surround and mesh in the upper and lower grilles, a gloss black grille, new side sills, a satin chrome belt molding, black chrome "200" badges, a new trunk lid spoiler, a satin chrome light bar, a matte black lower diffuser with attached exhaust openings, and a new set of 18" "S" alloy wheels that come in either Gray or Hyper Black color options.

Adding to the pretty comprehensive Stage I program is the Stage II program, which comes with performance tweaks that include a new coil-over suspension, a new cold-air intake, and a new cat-back exhaust.

About the only downside to this model is that it doesn’t have any engine upgrades. That being said, the 200’s standard numbers are still impressive in their own right: a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that delivers 283 horsepower and 260 lb/ft of torque.

When it comes to luxury sedans, Chrysler is the last manufacturer that comes to mind. However, that may change now that the company has announced the special edition 300 Luxury Series - the most luxurious and fuel-efficient Chrysler sedan ever. The new model will go on sale in the first-quarter of 2012 at a starting price of $40,145 for the 300 version and $42,895 for the 300C version.

Since luxury is the key ingredient for this special edition, it comes equipped with ultra-premium leather, hand-sanded matte wood, and world-class craftsmanship and refinement. But what makes this car really special is its paddle shifting eight-speed transmission that can only be found in vehicles twice the price of the 300.

The special transmission is coupled with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that delivers a total of 292 HP in the 300 and a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine producing 363 HP in the 300C. Both models can be combined with an optional AWD system.

Like a horse getting spooked upon hearing a strange noise, Ford has pulled their bailout commercial upon pressure from the White House.

Ford , being the only Detroit automaker that didn’t take money from the American taxpayers in order to lighten its debt load, wanted to highlight this fact in ads starring “real people.” One of the people interviewed was a guy named "Chris." He stated that he "wasn’t going to buy another car that was bailed out by our government," according to the text of the ad, launched in early September.

While this statement might be true, as General Motors and Chrysler did accept federal funding, Ford CEO Alan Mulally repeatedly supported the bill back in those dark days.

It seems the White House wasn’t about to have an automaker talking down their policies in front of the American public. With President Obama adjusting his election campaign amid the current economic situation and angst towards the stimulus package, the Ford commercial seemed to be a slap in the face of the administration that approved it. Freedom of speech is what again?

The Obama administration can revel in the fact that the plans have turned GM and Chrysler in the other direction. Each is producing vehicles that the American public seems to be eating up. The commercial that was pulled seemed to rekindle the negative, just when the White House needed the positive.

There is one key fact that Ford seems to be missing in this debacle, though. While they might not have taken the “bailout money,” they did in fact, take some cold hard cash from the government. Ford asked for a line of credit from the federal government and they also accepted billions in the past to “spruce up” its factories. Two years prior to the auto crisis of 2008, Mulally accepted $23 billion to finance a major overhaul and provide a cushion, just in case something was to happen.

While Ford might not have accepted “bailout money,” they certainly got their share of cash from Uncle Sam.


Put back the champagne in the freezer, Lexus ; you’re just-set record lap time of 7:14 around the Nurburgring has been broken. How’s it feel to hold one of the auto world’s most famous titles for less than a month?

You can blame Chrysler ’s SRT team for that because the latter went to the ’Ring with only one thing in mind: get under 7:14 in one lap. And just as records are always meant to be broken regardless of how fresh they are, Chrysler’s Dodge Viper ACR blasted around the Nurburgring in a blistering time of 7:12. The exact time has yet to be released - there are tenths of seconds in that equation - but make no mistake, it’s more than a second faster than the 7:14.6 time the Lexus LF-A Nurburgring Package achieved earlier this month.

We are sure there are people over at the Lexus camp that are clearly not happy with this latest development. But like we said, records are meant to be broken. The Dodge Dodge Viper ACR has raised the bar and dropped the gauntlet on everybody else. Now its up to one of the rest to answer back.

UPDATE 09/27/2011: Chrysler has finally brought out the official confirmation for the Nurburgring record set by the Viper ACR on Sept. 14, 2011. "We’re extremely proud to set the lap record for a second time at the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife," said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. "Our team returned to Germany knowing we’d left some time on the track when we set our first lap record, so this effort shows the incredible depth and capability the Viper ACR has by running a full 10 seconds faster than we did in 2008."
