The model will be offered in four exterior colors: Brilliant Black, Deep Cherry Red, Stone White or Billet Silver. It also receives a dark-chrome grille, a black-background Chrysler Winged badges, a black rear fascia step pad, "S" model badges and a set of 17-inch aluminum wheels with polished faces and black-painted pockets.
Inside the cabin, the new S version will add Black Torino leather seats with an "S" logo embroidered in the seat backs and black Ballistic cloth seat inserts. The instrument panel will also get Piano Black gloss appliques and will be combined with a black leather-wrapped steering wheel, a black headliner, upper consoles and center console, and an "S" logo in the instrument cluster.
The Town & Country S will come with with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that delivers a total of 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The engine will mate to a 62TE six-speed automatic transmission. It also features a performance suspension that provides a comfortable, yet sporty, ride — as sporty as a minivan can be.
Old or new, Jay Leno has always reviewed some of the most amazing cars offered on the market, and the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage show is no exception. He may not have been reviewing a Ferrari or a Lamborghini supercar, this episode is about one of the most unique creations ever produced Stateside.
We are talking about the 1963 Chrysler Turbine, a model limited to only 55 units — 46 of which were destroyed after the project was decommissioned. The car was powered by a JP-4 jet fuel engine that delivered a total of 130 horsepower and was able to get the car to 60 mph in 12 seconds.
Apparently, this is the amazing car Jay Lenos has lusted after since he was 14 years old, so you can imagine that this episode is packed with all kinds of amazing footage: a book review, a road test, and Chrysler’s original promotional video.
Back in 1978, Dodge rolled out a special edition package for its D150 pickup trucks, which were not yet named “Ram.” This new package was known internally as Package Code YH6 and featured a high-output 360-cubic-inch V-8 engine with a 4-barrel carb pumping in fuel. The engine boasted high-flow cylinder heads and an aggressive cam shave and it all hooked up to a 3.55-to-1 rear end. This package, which we all know as the L’il Red Express, only lasted two years – 1978 and 1979 – and saw only 2,188 units in 1978 and 5,118 units in 1979. This makes it one of the most sought after Dodge pickups ever built.
Well, Ram is rolling out a remake of this classic short-body pickup truck in the form of its SEMA-stationed L’il Red Express Truck. Though it is more modern than the original rendition, it certainly pays it homage rather well. It features the bright-red paint of the original, a side-stack exhaust system, and a wood-trimmed bed.
In addition, this remake of the cult classic pickup features 22-inch Mopar rims with gold inserts, a 5.7-liter HEMI engine that pumps out 390 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque, gold accent stripes, “Hyperblack” painted grille inserts, and a custom Katzkin (no, not “cat skin”) interior. Sure, it lacks the flare-side styling and the wood-outlined bed of the original, but it is bad-ass nonetheless.
There is no mention of this special edition ever coming to the Ram lineup, but don’t be too surprised to see it roll out in 2013 and 2014, as Chrysler loves running special-edition Rams – there have been plenty of them. One thing is for sure, it would definitely carry a higher premium than the $1,131 price for the original L’il Red Express package.

The newest member in the Chrysler family is SRT (Street and Racing Technology), which was unveiled at the same time as the new generation Viper that bnow bears its name. According to Chrysler, this new extension of their brand will be responsible for the development of the most powerful performance models available.
A lot goes behind setting up an arm such as SRT. Each department has a specific use in the grand scheme of the automotive world. Today, SRT has unveiled a video that explains the essence of this newly created brand and solidifies its purpose for the company: "The SRT family of five street and racing technology vehicles represents the pinnacle of Chrysler performance. Five different ways to get your revs up - all bred from the minds of those passionate about making cars better, faster and stronger."
SRT has already wowed us with their new generationViper, but we have to wonder what other scintillating models they have in store. The next piece of this SRT puzzle comes in the form of the Barracuda, but will it be able to stand up to its German competitors? Only time will tell, but they are sure off to a great start!
If you want to take a break from all the Paris Auto Show-related news, check out some of the new details we dug up on the next big auto show of the year: SEMA. Mopar has unveiled a series of teaser images for their upcoming line-up, which will be presented in Las Vegas from Tuesday, October 30, 2012, to Friday, November 2, 2012. These images only show five different vehicles, but the company has promised that more than 20 Moparized Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Fiat, and SRT vehicles will be at the show.
The teaser images show a widebody Fiat 500, a custom RAM pickup, an updated Dodge Charger,
a heavily modified Jeep, and - our favorite - a very nicely updated Dodge Dart. With its growing list of Mopar-first features, including Electronic Vehicle Tracking Systems (EVTS), Wireless charging, Vehicle-information apps, and Electronic owner manuals, we’re psyched to see what Chrysler’s service, parts, and customer-care brand has to offer at this year’s SEMA Auto Show.
"At Mopar, we always look forward to the SEMA season," said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. "The show is an opportunity for us to inspire owners to customize their vehicles, and it’s the perfect place to showcase our vast portfolio of quality-tested performance parts and accessories."
When Chrysler replaced the Sebring with the 200, the world rejoiced at the elimination of the outdated and never truly impressive drop top. Unfortunately, the 200 was not a full redesign of its predecessor, rather just a nip here, a tuck there, some new headlights and basic interior changes. So, essentially, the 200’s body style is in its 6th production year, making it a year overdue for a revision.
According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, this revision has been partially revealed to dealerships in a meeting in Las Vegas. The details are very scarce yet, but there are a few things of note. First is that Chrysler plans to launch the new 200 in the first quarter of 2014, making it a late-2014 model year. With that sort of release date, we should see the final model at a mid-2013 auto show.
Dealers also learned that the 2014 Chrysler 200 sedan will boast a 9-speed transmission, which enables it to get an astounding 38 mpg – an 8 mpg increase over the 2012 Chrysler 200 with a 2.4-liter. We expect to see a 4-cylinder as its base engine and possibly the elimination of the 6-cylinder model altogether, unless Chrysler chooses to develop an SRT6 model.
While Chrysler only revealed the sedan model to its dealers, we do anticipate a convertible model joining it.

Autoweek America Adventure is holding a 7-day-long rally sponsored by SRT on October 24th, which runs from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Los Vegas. Along the way, drivers are required to endure certain tasks and tests to earn points. In a way, it is a race between the two cities, but speeding is strictly prohibited and you lose points for it.
You must also navigate the route perfectly and hit each checkpoint at a certain time. If you are too early or too late to the checkpoint, you lose points. At the end of each day, the team with the most points gets a key and at the final rally event, the SEMA show, the key holders will all try their keys in the ignition of a 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8.
Whoever’s key starts this mighty luxury car gets to drive it and its 470-horsepower, 6.4-liter V-8 engine home, netting themselves a free $47,670 car.

Chrysler has had only one mass-produced electrified vehicle in its history and that was the now-discontinued Durango hybrid. According to a report from Bloomberg, Chrysler is once again kicking around the thought of electrified vehicles, be it by 100 percent electricity or some sort of hybrid system.
Bob Lee, the head of Chrysler’s engine and electrified propulsion engineering department was quoted as saying “We do believe in electrification, sparingly and for the right kinds of targeted applications.” This basically means that Chrysler is taking its dive into electric propulsion very carefully until it knows that there is a market among Chrysler buyers.
That’s not a huge shock, considering that Chrysler was pulled from the financial flames twice in the last decade, or so – once by Daimler and once by Fiat. Chrysler is finally pulling in a profit and now it’s actually carrying its parent company, Fiat, on its shoulders to keep it from drowning in debt.
Speaking of Fiat, Lee also confirmed in the same report that Fiat is moving into production of the anticipated 500EV, the electric-powered Fiat 500. The 500EV will go into production later on this year and be ready for release sometime in the 2013 model year.
The 500EV will likely be the testing grounds for Chrysler to see if it is a profitable venture or not. We are willing to bet that buyers gobble up the 500EV and that Chrysler soon follows suit with a small EV of their own. Down the road, with fuel prices going how they are, we may even see the Viper utilizing a hybrid system, much like Ferrari is planing to install on its upcoming Enzo/F70.
We’ll keep an eye on this and let you know once there is some confirmation on a Chrysler with electric propulsion.
Here’s a tidbit of bad news for anyone looking to buy the new SRT Viper: The company has announced that only about 15-20% of all Chrysler Group dealerships will have the chance to actually sell the new Viper. In order to be able to sell the sports car, dealerships will have to train their staff, buy special tools, and improve their facilities.
"We’re going to open it up to any dealer who can put the money forward and the training, but it’s going to be pretty difficult to hit all of those things," Ralph Gilles, head of the high-performance SRT brand said during a broadcast interview with journalists in Detroit this month. "You’ve got to have the training, the facilities, and some history of selling Vipers and SRTs in general."
Gilles also announced that the company can’t "legally stop someone who’s sold a Viper in the past from selling it," but the company will try to make it a little difficult because they want their customers to enjoy the best experience possible from their dealer.
Prices for the new SRT Viper haven’t been announced just yet, but Gilles is very sure the new generation will bring lots of new customers.
Chrysler kicked off its new sub-brand, SRT, with the unveiling of the new generation Viper and the cars will just keep coming from here on out. The sub-brand’s second model will be the new generation Barracuda that will join the line-up for the 2015 model year and, according to MotorTrend, SRT is already working on a third model for their line-up.
Details on the third model are a bit unclear at the moment, but it could be either a successor to the Dodge Ram SRT10 or a small, two-seat sports car. Obviously, our hopes lie in a new sports car. Chrysler has already teased us with a Dodge Demon Concept designed as a competitor for the Mazda MX-5 Miata, and now that Mazda and Fiat have teamed up to build a new RWD sports roadster, we are hoping that Chrysler will consider offering a production version of the Demon.
