Top Speed reported not too long ago that the French automaker Citroen, is considering a limited production run of their racing simulator inspired GT Concept. Citroen, a company that has never produced a super car will have to make up their minds in the next couple of weeks.
The man in charge of the French operation, Citroen’s product boss Vincent Besson, said that it is very likely that there will be a production version of the GT Concept, but there will definitely be no more that 15 built and each one will be priced at around $1.4 Million.
However, unlike the concept, the production version will get a Ford or General Motors supplied V8 engine that will put out somewhere around 500 HP. If consumers show enough interest, the production GT might even make it to Frankfurt, with sales starting as early as next year.
The Citroen GT Concept was just a dream car for the French company. It was first built in the digital world to give players of Gran Turismo 5 a Citroen to lust after. Citroen then showed it off as purely a dream car at the Paris Motor Show last October.
The reason why the GT concept is making news again is because it seems Citroen is taking another step towards production by looking at using a more practical powerplant. The original specs for the car had it using a hydrogen fuel cell, but Citroen hinted to Autocar that they will likely borrow a gas-guzzler from Ford or General Motors to make this supercar.
We got to see the concept again, and we’ll still gladly welcome it in our driveway, even if the engine is no longer out to save the world.
The concept from the game Gran Turismo 5 was listed as powered by hydrogen fuel cells that release no emissions. From the sound on this video it’s obvious that Citroen has found something a little more conventional (and exciting) to power the GT in the real world.
The Citroen GT Concept was a hit a the Paris Auto Show for being a design concept. The car had plenty of style (some say too much), but there definitely was no substance. It existed as a design from the game Gran Turismo 5, and it was listed in the virtual world as powered by hydrogen fuel cells that release no emissions.
Now it seems Citroen may want to go through its parts bin looking for that hydrogen race engine. Jean-Pierre Ploue, Citroen’s design director, said GT Concept will go into limited production. Ploue didn’t give any indications of a release date, but he did hint that about 20 GT may be built. Whenever the car shows up, we expect it to look just as exotic as the concept but probably powered by a more conventional gas or diesel engine.
These are the first snapshots of the newly launched GTbyCITROËN in the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The concept car was unveiled yesterday at the Paris Auto Show and developed cooperation with in Polyphony, designer of the driving simulation game Gran Turismo 5.
The GT is powered in the game by an electric motor powered by fuel cells that release no emissions. Maybe Citroen will be able to utilize this powerplant in a real car someday, but until then, the game will have to do.
We finally get to see the whole car! Designed for the Gran Turismo 5, the GT by Citroen Concept made its official debut ahead of the Paris Auto Show. As Citroen calls it a "style replica of a vehicle from the digital world", that translates into likely a non-running styling concept. The car seems to be built to look good while playing Gran Turismo. The rear end is oversized, made exaggeratedly long in order to create an effect of retinal persistence. The idea is to make the concept car even faster visually. The white-to-grey gradation on the body side further underlines this impression of continuous movement.
Further proof that this is more of a dream car than a real car is that the GT is powered in the game by an electric motor powered by fuel cells that release no emissions. But dreaming is fun. No word yet on what, if anything, is powering the actual concept car.
After revealing the sixth teaser image of the GT Concept today, Citroen revealed the first video teaser of the concept (and we really hope the next time we see it, it will be the whole car.)
Maybe someday we’ll be able to teach Citroen a lesson that they can’t keep treating us like this, but until then, the video is pretty cool.
Ok, enough is enough already! Citroen revealed today the sixth teaser of the GT Concept that will be revealed at the Paris Auto Show.
Once again, the GT Concept was created in cooperation with Sony subsidiary Polypony Digital and will be featured in the Playstation3 GranTurismo Prologue5. This new teaser reveals the front grille with the massive spoiler and air intakes. This also gives a slightly better idea of the car’s silhouette.
It’s a cool looking car, we got the point! C’mon Citroen, release some technical details!
After revealing the front-end of the car, now Citroen revealed a new teaser of the GT Concept, this time revealing the rear-end of the car.
Click on the picture above for the full reveal. It seems the concept features the same flamboyant air intake scoops on the sides as well as the inward pointing trapezoidal exhaust pipe.
Citroen revealed today the fourth teaser of the GT Concept that will make its world debut on October 2nd at the Paris Auto Show. The fourth teaser reveal the front end of the car featuring a huge side air intake, the front grille and the headlights.
