A high-performance HDi diesel engine designed for driving pleasure

To bring customers a wider choice, Citroën is making a new engine available with the C2: the HDi 110 and particulate filter (DPFS). This engine combines high standards of performance with remarkable driveability and real environmental qualities.

 A guarantee of driving pleasure

The C2 is now available with the 1.6 litre 16V HDi 110 engine, which made its debut in Citroën's supermini range on the C3. This new powertrain joins a range that already includes six engines:

  • five petrol engines: 1.1i (61 bhp), 1.4i (75 bhp), 1.4i 16V (90 bhp), 1.6i 16V (110 bhp) and 1.6i 16V (125 bhp);
  • one diesel engine: HDi 70.

Developing 80 kW (110 bhp DIN) at 4,000 rpm and maximum torque of 240 Nm at 1,750 rpm, the HDi 110 DPFS engine delivers a fast response with a linear increase in power and excellent acceleration from the lowest engine speeds. For strong bursts of acceleration, the "overboost" function kicks in, delivering up to 20 Nm of additional torque. With its excellent weight/power/torque ratio, the C2 HDi 110 DPFS delivers high standards of performance and real driveability.
For example, it accelerates from 60 kph to 90 kph in 5.6 seconds in fourth gear, and from 80 kph to 120 kph in 8.6 seconds, also in fourth gear.

The new running gear enhances driving sensations and performance on the C2 HDi 110 DPFS, without forgetting safety and comfort. It ensures driveability and highly capable road manners on a car whose design places the emphasis on dynamic qualities.
The new suspension settings closely guide the wheels on curving or poorly surfaced roads, ensuring surefooted behaviour, sharp steering and excellent ride comfort.

These results were achieved by making the following adjustments:

  • stiffer springs at the front (65% damping instead of 75%);
  • a stiffer anti-roll bar (diameter increased from 18 mm to 20 mm at the front and from 20.5 mm to 24 mm at the rear);
  • decoupled suspension uprights;
  • front and rear damping control adapted to the car's dynamic characteristics while also optimising suspension comfort.

The variable-assistance electric power steering features a new high-precision control system that adapts power to the characteristics of this vehicle in order to "read" the road at all speeds.

The highly-efficient braking system is sized according to vehicle characteristics. This version, which has more energy to dissipate, features vented discs with a diameter of 266 mm at the front and discs with a diameter of 247mm at the rear. The C2 HDi 110 DPFS is shod with Michelin 195/45 R16 tyres.
This vehicle also features standard ESP, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency brake assist, traction control and hazard warning lights that come on automatically if the driver brakes hard.

Controlled fuel consumption and pollutant emissions

The C2 HDi 110 DPFS combines high standards of performance with respect for the environment, particularly through its limited fuel consumption. With this engine, the vehicle consumes just 4.4 l/100 km over a standard combined cycle for CO2 emissions of 119 g/km.
With this new engine, Citroën is continuing to make the particulate filter available across the supermini segment. The DPFS traps and burns the particles produced by the engine. With direct-injection common-rail technology, the level of particulate emissions produced by the HDi engine was already particularly low. With the DPFS, it drops to a level that is barely measurable. In this way, the DPFS enhances the credentials of the diesel engine in terms of respect for the environment.

Consuming just 4.4 l/100 km and with CO2 emissions of no more than 119 g/km, the C2 HDi 110 DPFS carries the Airdream® label identifying Citroën's most ecological models.

Like all Citroën HDi diesel vehicles, this version can run on fuel containing up to 30% biodiesel without any adjustments. The low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of HDi engines are thus combined with a renewable energy source.

Stronger lines and a more expressive front end

The success of the C2 lies in its strong and original personality. This is why, alongside the rollout of the HDi 110 DPFS version, the C2 has gained styling upgrades that underline its strong points.

Styling upgrades for dynamic looks

With its clean styling and strong personality, the C2 brings dynamic performance to mind. The redesigned front end focuses on these values with its stronger, more pronounced lines. The design of the new radiator grille – featuring the same redesigned chevrons as at the rear – continues the line of the ribbing on the bonnet giving the vehicle a powerful and distinguished air with a touch of elegance. From the second level of trim, the radiator grille is outlined with a glossy black or chrome-plated strip, giving the C2 a chic, modern look.
A new dark and sophisticated body colour – Manitoba Grey – further underlines the sophisticated looks of the new C2.

The new one-piece bumper is identical for all levels of trim. The attention given to design and integration ensure high levels of perceived quality and an impression of greater strength.
The lower part of the bumper gains more generous forms and now features two colour-keyed strips. It is designed to provide enhanced protection and to integrate the fog lamps while conveying the impression of a vehicle that is placed squarely on the road.

The changes made to the front end of the C2 fit perfectly with the staggered body lines and deep-cut side windows, as well as with the clean, dynamic lines of the rear end.

Recognised assets

Stop & Start: lower fuel consumption and emissions and amore relaxed and enjoyable drive

Reflecting Citroën's ongoing commitment to environmental protection, the Stop & Start system remains available on the C2.
Shipping with the 90 bhp 1.4i 16V engine, the C2 and C3 Stop & Start contribute to quality of life in the city by reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by around 10% over an urban cycle, and up to 15% in heavy traffic. The system also reduces noise since the engine cuts out whenever the vehicle stops.
The C2 Stop & Start combines two technologies: the SensoDrive automated gearbox and an electronically controlled reversible alternator. With this system, the engine cuts out just before the vehicle comes to a standstill (traffic lights, traffic jams, etc.). It starts again automatically and instantaneously as soon as the driver takes his foot off the brake pedal to move forward again.

Modular design serving functionality

Citroën has also maintained the modular design and boot access of the C2, which still stand as innovations. Depending on trim, the rear independent sliding seats can be toppled forward easily in order to adapt boot space as required. And a split tailgate makes it easy to access the boot.

A wide range of equipment dedicated to onboard comfort

A full range of equipment, with availability depending on trim levels, sets high standards in onboard comfort.
Features include a speed limiter/cruise control, automatic air conditioning, steering wheel adjustable for height and reach, reversing radar, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, and the USB Box, available as an accessory, which lets the driver connect a USB port, MP3 player or any other portable music system with a jack to the in-car audio system.

Optimised safety

The C2 combines a relaxed driving experience with a range of advanced safety equipment. Depending on the country, these features may be standard, such as ABS, emergency brake assist, four front and side airbags, and automatic hazard warning lights, or optional such as ESP (standard with the 125 bhp 1.6i 16V and HDi 110 DPFS engines).
The excellent results achieved by the C2 in EuroNCAP crash tests, with 4 stars and 29 points, confirm the qualities of Citroën's supermini platform in terms of passenger protection.
