2010 Citroen DS High Rider

It has been about a year since the French automaker launched the all new Citroen DS line and only a few months after the new DS3 broke cover, the new car builder is taking the next step by unveiling the new DS High Rider concept at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The High Rider is a modern car with an innovative technological approach, especially because of the new "Full Hybrid" diesel powertrain.

The "Full Hybrid " system combines a refined HDi DPFS diesel burning power plant with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle that enables the Citroen DS High Rider to combine the fuel efficiency and torque of an HDi diesel engine with the green benefits of a next generation ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) when running exclusively under electric power while in other situations, both propulsion sources combine to deliver the maximum amount of power with an excess of torque being transmitted to the rear wheels.

Updated 04/23/2010: Citroen today unveiled images of the concept’s interior. The images revealed that the instrument panel, seats and door panels are all finished in a quality, full-grain leather, while chrome detailing is used around the dials, steering wheel, air vents, gear stick and the arch that connects the instrument panel to the console.

Press release after the jump.

Press release

Citroën has released first details of a striking new concept design that will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. DS HIGH RIDER is the second concept associated with Citroën’s innovative and distinctively styled DS line.

Without denying the appeal of conventional coupés, DS HIGH RIDER represents a bold and radical vision of the future, combining compact dimensions with generous internal volumes, dynamic performance, sophisticated style and consummate quality.

Unlike traditional 4-seater coupés, with their long, low design, the DS HIGH RIDER is compact and muscular.

Its character is expressed in its unique driving sensations, with a sleek flowing windscreen that soars over the heads of front occupants - hinting at a bright and spacious cabin environment. The apparently continuous glazed area of the side windows connects the A-pillars to the gently sloping roof line of the rear.

Planted firmly on stylish 19" alloy wheels and beautifully in proportion, DS HIGH RIDER’s confident profile is characterised by its high waistline. Its front end is purposeful with gaping air intakes, long incisive headlights and defined ridges along the bonnet.

DS HIGH RIDER is an expression of automotive luxury and elegance - exemplified by its glossy golden paintwork and brushed chrome trim that accentuate the car’s flowing lines. The roof is covered with a coated textile material - a tactile feature of quality.

Just 4.26m long, 1.82m wide & 1.48m high, DS HIGH RIDER combines a neat and nimble chassis, for responsive handling, with intelligent design architecture that provides occupants with a generous amount of internal space.

DS HIGH RIDER’s ability to rise above conventional design constraints is also reflected in its choice of power. Offering an enjoyable driving experience with dynamic on-road performance, DS HIGH RIDER is respectful of the environment with an advanced ’Full Hybrid’ diesel drivetrain that combines a refined HDi DPFS* engine under the bonnet with an electric motor located on the rear axle. The hybrid platform enables DS HIGH RIDER to combine the fuel efficiency and power of an HDi diesel engine with the ecological benefits of a new generation electric ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle). Under certain conditions, both engines combine to deliver additional power with additional torque transmitted to the rear wheels.

The gold color is not enough to show some elegance in an SUV, but this one is an absolute champion in terms of class and elegance. The outer embossed lining projects to provide more reflection. The wheels are very rich in details.

Admittedly, it really looks so cool with its gold body paint and even the design of its wheels only fitted with the classy appearance of it. However, I wonder if they also perfectly matched it on its interior?

The appearance, seems so luxurious and sophisticated on its gold body paint. I noticed that all wheels of the car here in certain is so cool! But it seems that the interior features are boring.

I found out that this concept is a preview for next year’s DS4. Looks like it will be good!

Ever seen Ferrari always have the beautiful and unique structure of they car, maybe that’s why? some of their design are trying to be clone by other country.

Looks like a new concept car that might turn into a WRC car. A good answer to the Ford Focus, and Impreza WRX hatch type.

What a lovely hatch, i hope they made an AWD series of this.

this is just such a beauty, i hope Peugeot/Citroen can just make the leap to North America in the next few years, this has market appeal

It is actually the first time after more than a decade that I have seen an SUV that has only 3 doors. I think the first and last one that I saw was that of Toyota Rav4. They had a 3 door SUV same as that of Citroen’s. I wonder why they stopped producing that as there are a lot of people who actually preferred it.

I think this is a very nice car - Like virtually all new Citroens. I am a real fan of this DS range as they try some new things in design. Good job Citroen.
