  A concept car is a car prototype made to showcase a new vehicle's styling, technology, and overall design before production. They are often shown at motor shows to gauge customer reaction to new and radical designs which may or may not have a chance of being produced.

There will probably come a time when Mercedes vehicles will look like this. That time hasn’t come yet, and we’re not really sweating t too much, especially when there are things like Gran Turismo that can give us glimpses of what the future could look like.

To this point, BMW and Mercedes have unveiled their Vision Gran Turismo Concepts . But Mercedes isn’t content with just one iteration of its concept; nope, it actually has two of these concepts and the latest is the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series.

According to Mercedes, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series was designed to compete in Gran Turismo 6’s "competitive racing scene." That’s all well and good and the concept looks really incredible. It’s also slightly modified from the "standard" Mercedes Vision Gran Turismo Concept to fit its racing credentials, including the addition of a a fixed rear wing that improves downforce on high-speed circuits and conventional mirrors in place of the CCS cameras the original concept had.

As far as performance goes, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series is powered by a 5.5-liter, twin-turbo, V-8 engine that produces an impressive 591 horsepower and connected to a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. No performance numbers were given, but seeing as the car only weighs 2,866 pounds, it should be good for at least 200 mph.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series is now available on Gran Turismo 6, and you can acquire it by participating in a new seasonal event that’s available in the game.

Any car that gets the kind of attention that the BMW i8 has received is going to be on the radar of a lot of aftermarket companies. It’s not so much a question on if a tuner will build a program for it as it is when somebody will be the first to do it.

Well, it looks like Lumma Design already has the leg up over the competition.

The German tuning firm is jumping in on the i8 phenomenon with a preview of what it plans to do with BMW ’s all-new electric sports car .

Nothing is final as of yet, but the preliminary announcement from Lumma has the i8 receiving a host of high-tech carbon components, including a new front spoiler, new side skirts and a new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser tacked on to it.

In addition, the aptly named CLR I8 program also gets a fancy set of new wheels and the most distinguishable modification of them all, tailor-made stickers — yes, stickers — that change the blue accents on the standard i8 into a shade of green that, quite frankly, looks a lot better than the standard blue hue. And if anything, it goes with the eco-friendliness of the electric hybrid. Just sayin’...

No performance upgrades have been announced, but rest assured we’re going to expect significantly more than the 362-horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque output of the standard i8.

We’ve never been the type to jump the gun on early conclusions on anything and we’re not going to do it on this instance.

Having said that, Toyota CEO Jim Lentz’s presentation just before the 2014 North American International Auto Show showed what appeared to be a production version of the LF-NX Concept that we were raving about last year. The image of the production version got us thinking, which of course, led to this question.

That’s it?

Granted, it has all of the Lexus dimensions and styling cues you’d come to expect from the company’s current, and admittedly, fantastic design language. But the LF-NX Concept was just so incredible to look at — it looked like straight out of Transformers! — that we hoped the company would translate at least some of it into the production model.

Instead, we’re looking at a enormously toned down version of the LF-NX that, quite frankly, bears little resemblance to the concept. The sharp edges, the mean-looking headlights, and even the fancy polished gray color of the concept was taken out and replaced with a whole lot of traditional styling — sigh.

We’re still holding out hope that the final version of the production model looks more like the concept than this "preview" of sorts. Then again, we’re not holding out hope that something like that could happen, or at the very least be entertained by Lexus’ top brass.

Remember the Peugeot Onyx Hybrid Concept unveiled back in 2012 at the Paris Auto Show ? It was the first concept car to use design elements from Peugeot ’s new style approach. Now, at the 2014 International Automobile Festival, Tribute to Sensations in Paris, Peugeot will unveil the basic design of a new concept car using similar styling. It will then fully reveal the concept at the Beijing International Automobile Exhibition on April 20th.

The first image of the concept reveals a four-door coupe that is 186.2 inches long and 51.6 inches high, making it very athletic and sporty. Peugeot revealed no details on the engine just yet, but we’re certain it will be an evolution of the hybrid system used in the Onyx, which was a 3.7-liter, FAP HDi V-8 engine combined with an electric motor and regenerative braking for a total output of 680 horsepower!

There are no other details to reveal as of now, but we will bring you updates as soon as Peugeot releases them.

There’s something to be said for an aftermarket company that can just roll out of bed in the morning, decide that it wants to build a concept model based on a Lamborghini Aventador , and then proceed to envision what it would do with it when it decides to make it.

That’s how it goes over at DMC these days. During a recent interview with LamboCars, the supercar tuner was asked what it could whip up should a customer say he wants a heavily modded Aventador without any budget constraints.

And this is what DMC came up with; an indescribable piece of engineering that we don’t even know where to begin. It’s already been christened as the Lamborghini Aventador LP1200-4R and in true Lambo nomenclature, the "1200" on its name is representative of the 1,200 horsepower DMC is capable of getting out of the exotic’s 6.5-liter, V-12 engine. Doing that, though, will constitute adding twin-turbos, as well as increasing the displacement by 1.2 liters to a mammoth 7.7-liter engine.

To be clear, this is still a concept, and there are no hints of it being built and developed in the future. But when the company said that it could build a $2.5 million program for the Aventador and it shows something like this, clearly DMC isn’t joking.

But get this; that 1,200-horsepower output it can get out of the Aventador doesn’t even compare to what it can do when a customer really wants a missile on his hands. According to DMC, if somebody really wants to push all the boundaries of speed and power, 2,000 ponies is attainable.

As far as the aerodynamics of the car are concerned, DMC has also prepared a list of new components it would want on the project, which includes a new body kit, stronger air intakes, more air vents, an adjustable-fin air brake system, an adaptive ride height, gold-plated intakes and a new set of 20- and 21-inch wheels on the front and back.

All told, the Lamborghini Aventador LP1200-4R is being touted as having 1,200 horsepower and 671 pound-feet of torque, while weighing just 3,473 pounds. When it’s fully stretching its legs, the concept is capable of hitting 62 mph in 2.3 second to go with a top speed of somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 mph.

Gran Turismo’s Vision Gran Turismo Concepts allow engineers from a lot of these participating automakers to have free reign of their designs.

Ford really took that to heart with its design with an open-wheel race car . Now that’s what’s up, Ford .

Of course, this is still just a teaser of the actual concept that we’re going to see in the future. Hopefully, it’s sooner rather than later, but from the looks of things, the mere fact that the teaser is showing full-on racing tires with an uncovered chassis and suspension suggests that this concept won’t have a whole lot of body panels covering its overall construction.

It also appears to have a Mustang -like sweptback look, which if accurate, offers a nice mix of Ford’s intent to blend its current muscle car ’s identity into the concept. We don’t have any performance details yet, although something about this concept makes us think that it’s going to be really lightweight with a V-6 tucked inside it.

Maybe an open-wheel Mustang racer? Nobody knows until Ford reveals it but we can’t tell you how excited we are to see the rest of this beauty.

So far, this year has brought freezing temperatures and snow in places where it these are rarely seen, so it’s a good idea to start upgrading your car to for snow-driving capabilities. Ken Block, for example, transformed this Ford F-150 SVT Raptor into a sick-looking F-150 RaptorTrax, which looks like the ultimate snowmobile.

The F-150 Raptor was updated with snowboard racks, a roof basket, a rear-mounted winch, interior storage for snacks and drinks, Recaro seating, an exterior stereo setup for blasting music and four burly Mattracks. The RaptorTrax offer the usual Ken Block paint scheme, combined with exterior-mounted Rigid Industries lighting to help guide the way.

Although Ken Block didn’t announce any specifications figures just yet, the RaptorTRAX features the same Whipple-supercharged, 6.2-liter, V-8 engine as the base SVT Raptor — possibly with a slight output increase from its standard 411 horsepower — and a full roll cage for added protection.

Nissan IDx Nismo

Sometimes, automakers tend to outsmart themselves more than they should, and in this instance, Nissan really needs to think long and hard about its plan to produce road models for the twin IDx concepts it first showed at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.

According to Autoweek, Nissan is seriously considering it, provided that it gets some serious support from fans of the company. The problem is, it shouldn’t because neither of the IDx concepts, at least in their current guise, deserve a place among Nissan’s current lineup.

Make no mistake, it’s always a good idea to have an affordable rear-drive coupe, but Nissan already has one in the 370Z and last we checked, that model’s doing quite well for itself. Nissan can point to the success of the Toyota GT86 and the Subaru BRZ and see how having its own will make it more competitive in that specific segment.

The company said that if there’s money to be made from it, it’s pushing forward with its plan. All that may be true, but we don’t think the iDX concepts are the answer, partly because they look really good as concepts, but once you turn them into production cars, neither looks as appetizing as you might think.

If we were Nissan and we really want to give the rear-wheel sports coupe market a run for its money, we’re going to give full attention to giving the 370Z a complete overhaul. It’s not exactly a confidence builder either when you hear the company say its production plans for the iDX concepts will be in small volumes and that the only way the plan will be green lit is if there’s strong demand for it.

Nissan’s already throwing all these conditions up for the pair of concepts and that doesn’t invite confidence in us. So if you’re listening, Nissan, drop the production plans for the iDX concepts and focus on a next generation 370Z that will come with all the bells and whistles you would’ve put on a production iDX. If anything, the 370Z deserves that kind of love.

That’s the prudent thing to do as far as we’re concerned.

You know a car is making waves when on the same day it makes its worldwide debut, its virtual counterpart is doing the same.

That’s what happened a few days ago when the incredible Toyota FT-1 Concept officially showed its face at the North American International Auto Show, which was shortly followed by the virtual FT-1 Concept becoming available as a downloadable content for Gran Turismo 6.

Yup, that quick. The quick turnaround is impressive enough in its own right, but considering that the actual show car lacked an engine in Detroit , yet it’s running in full force in the game, it would be really cool to see exactly how the concept sports car runs.

More importantly, the release of the FT-1 Concept on Gran Turismo represents a new kind of partnership between the game’s developer with automotive brands. We’ve already waxed poetic about the Vision Gran Turismo Concepts , but having an actual concept make a debut in a major auto show coincide with the same concept appearing in a video game is something both parties are likely to take advantage of in the near future.

Don’t be surprised if a company decides to debut a concept in the game first before showing it live in person in the future.

That could be in play now.

Acura is preparing to replace the lackluster TL with the new TLX performance luxury sedan. The first preview of the car — the TLX prototype — made its debut today at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show .

The new TLX will feature a sportier look than the TL that it replaces, and it will be offered with two all-new engines that will deliver more power and improved fuel economy. Both engines will mate to an all-new advanced transmission that drives either two wheels or all four wheels.

On top of the new drivetrain, Acura also announced that the model will carry a new design language, a roomier cabin than the one offered in the TL and lots of new technology.

The new TLX will be put on sale in mid-2014, which also happens to be the same time that Acura will give the axe treatment to the unsuccessful TSX . This will leave company to motor on with just three sedans: ILX , TLX and RLX .
