Mercedes E63 AMG

Until now, Mercedes has only unveiled the sedan , coupe and convertible versions for the updated E-Class. Today, however, the company has unveiled a teaser image for the E-Class lineup, which will debut at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show, and the E63 AMG model is one of the models presented in the image.

The problem is that the only details revealed by Mercedes on the next E63 AMG say just about nothing: "Of interest not only to the US market will be the E 63 AMG models, now available for the first time in a 4MATIC version as well."

The image also features a "V8 biturbo" logo confirming the car will keep its usual engine — an M157 twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 engine that delivers a total of 518 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, or 550 horsepower and 590 pound-feet when the model is equipped with the AMG performance pack.

Combining that engine with 4MATIC AWD sounds like a sweet change to us. We’ll bring you more details ASAP.

Audi A6

A 48-hour-long stretch of back and forth on the R8 e-tron was enough to make our heads spin. One side was saying that the e-tron may see production in limited units and the other flat out said no way, just a day later. Now, we have even more e-tron news to confuse us all.

According to a report from AutoBlog.nl, rumors are circulating that Audi is working on a Sportback version of the A6 that will feature the same e-tron technology that the recently axed R8 e-tron featured, on a less massive scale, of course.

This hot hatchback is rumored to make its debut at the 2013 IAA in Frankfurt and will feature a 300-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-banger with 100 ponies worth of electric motor added to it. This would give the A6 e-tron a total of 400 horsepower, just 20 horsepower short of the mighty 2013 S6 … not too shabby.

For now, these are just rumors that we take with a healthy serving of salt, given the on-and-off R8 e-tron. Regardless, this sounds like one bad-ass concept to say the least.

Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street

The latest addition to the Volkswagen Polo lineup is the powerful Polo R WRC Street version powered by a 2.0-liter TSI engine with an output of 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This version sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds and can hit a top speed of 151 mph. The only problem is that it comes only in front-wheel drive.

Well, now it looks like VW may be having second thoughts about this hot hatch carrying only FWD. According to head of R&D Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen may offer a four-wheel drive version of the Polo R WRC Street, but only for several countries in the world. He confirmed that such a model is still not under development, but he "could imagine it."

If built, the Polo R WRC Street AWD would likely be developed on the company’s PQ25 platform that has already been used for the all-wheel drive Audi A1 quattro. Unfortunately, there we won’t see it here in the U.S., but it’s still cool regardless.

Okay, if you have ever wanted to own a Ferrari Enzo , but just don’t have the $1 million, or more, in the bank needed to procure one, you may consider a kit car as a viable option. Well, kit cars, for the most part, share little with the car they are designed after and are typically powered by an engine that isn’t going to get you anywhere fast (See: Fieraris).

Sometimes, however, you come across a kit car that is about as close as you can get to the original at a relative bargain and we have one for you now. Straight off of the German subsite of Ebay (Ebay.de), we have a BFE-AE 750 – an Enzo lookalike – that also packs quite a punch with its 5.0-liter V-12 BMW engine that cranks out 400 horsepower and 500 Nm (368 pound-feet) of torque. Sure, that’s a far cry from the 660 horsepower and 657 pound-feet of torque the original Enzo made, but that’s enough to fool most people into believing.

Where this kit car really will fool people is from the outside, as it is literally identical to the Enzo, from a distance. The only flaws we can make out is the shape of the rear window and that the bodylines on the nose don’t quite match up to the body. It even has the Ferrari badges, which the poster wisely blacked out to avoid issues from German authorities that like to impound illegal kit cars .

Now, it loses us once you get inside, as you just cannot replicate the Enzo’s interior that closely. But, unless the person riding is lucky enough to have been inside a real Enzo (I sure haven’t) he would have no idea what it’s supposed to look like.

What really puts this over the top is that its current bid is only at €40,043.33 (about $52,800 at the current rates). The reserve hasn’t been met yet, but that number looks pretty promising that this may be a steal.

So hop to it if you’re in the market for a pretty sick kit car that actually has some cajones under the hood.

Audi RS5 Cabriolet

We pretty much know all that there is to know about the upcoming Audi RS5 Cabrio . We already know that it’s debuting in Germany in early-2013 and coming to the U.S. sometime later in the same year. However, we still have yet to see the actual car. Sure, renderings are great, but we want to see, feel and sniff this beauty for a few minutes.

Well, we’ll all get our chance at the 2013 North American International Auto Show this month, as the RS5 Cabrio will make its debut there. We also were not 100-percent certain if the RS5 Cabrio would be a 2013 model or a 2014 model here in The States, but from what we’re hearing, it will be a 2014 model year. Of course, it will remain a 2013 model year in the European market, as it is well before the cutoff.

In case you need a refresher course, the 2014 RS5 Cabrio will carry a 4,163 cc V-8 engine that wallops the concrete with 450 horsepower and 317.15 pound-feet of torque. This is enough power to launch the RS5 Cabrio to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds. Audi will limit its top speed at 155.34 mph, but you can request to have the limiter removed if you prefer 173.98 mph winds blowing through your hair.

The hunk of sweet Mopar goodness known as the 2013 SRT Viper GTS is all set to hit dealerships and the streets at the control of civilians. Before this can happen, all of us experts had to run it through the ringer and Edmunds sure got a good long look at the new snake. During this testing process, Edmunds somehow managed to get SRT SRT ’s permission to put the SRT Viper on the dyno – something that a surprising number of automakers would never allow out of fear of huge horsepower loss through the drivetrain.

As we all now, the Viper GTS has been dubbed the “most powerful Viper ever,” thanks to its 8.4-liter V-10 engine that pumps out 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. While stated output is all well and good, what really matters is how much of that power actually makes it to those monstrous rear tires.

With the Viper on the dyno, Edmunds lets us know what to expect from the resurrected serpent. Wanna know the results? You’ll have to check out the video to find out…

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake

The North American International Auto Show (aka the Detroit Auto Show ) is slowly creeping up and we are learning more each day about what is going to be at the show. We pretty much already know what the much-anticipated C7 Corvette will look like , thanks to the leaky pipes over at GM and our crack rendering team, and now Shelby has announced that it will be in on the fun.

Shelby has announced that two new vehicles will show up at the NAIAS and the first one will be a wide-body version of the 2013 Super Snake . That’s a pretty cool announcement in itself, but Shelby is keeping the second one under pretty tight wraps for now. The only information that it released about the second model is simply a quote from the late Carroll Shelby: “I think you’re going to see the industry going completely to small engines with turbochargers. That’s the only way you can get the mileage that the government is going to be demanding.”

From that quote, we can make out that the heavily guarded model will be a smaller-displacement, high-performance vehicle that will gain extra power from a turbocharger. So, this leaves us with a pair of potential scenarios. The cooler of the two would be a Mustang bearing a high-output four-cylinder or an EcoBoost V-6, which could be a preview of what to expect from the future Mustang SVO. The less awesome scenario would be a heavily tuned Focus or Fiesta ST.

We’re crossing our fingers that this will be a four-cylinder-equipped `Stang with some serious ponies, but we really don’t see any writing on the wall about which scenario will come true.

We’ll keep an eye on this situation and let you know as soon as we get some more info.

We are slight fans of synchronized drifting, though you likely already know that. What can possibly be cooler than seeing multiple cars drifting around one another in perfect time, just missing each other by mere inches? Well, the only thing we can think of is a motorcycle and a car pulling off this feat. Not just any motorcycle and car either, but two of the baddest ones around – an Audi R8 5.2 and BMW S1000RR , respectively.

With 704 horsepower between the two – 525 to the Audi and 179 to the BMW – these two kick up all sorts of smoldering rubber in the process of wagging their respective tails all over this closed track. To boot, the motorcycle driver pulls off some downright incredible stunts in the process of drifting like a madman.

The Audi R8 joins in a little bit late in the video, but holds its own. For the most part, however, the Audi is more of a very expensive prop for the Beemer .

We are still awaiting the release of the all-new 2014 Quattroporte , and to say we are “patiently” waiting is an overstatement. Maserati is nearing its breaking point as its competition, which includes BMW BMW , Mercedes Mercedes and Jaguar, are running away with all of the profits, as the trident-bearing brand continues to pull up the rear in the sales race.

This all-new Quattroporte is a huge part of Maserati’s plans to increase its total sales to 50,000 units per year by 2015. So, needless to say, there is a lot riding on this release and we don’t want to see this famed brand get the axe. Maserati has already released tons of high-res images for us to see, but we have never actually seen the Quattroporte in action. That is, until today.

Maserati took the upcoming performance sedan to the Balocco Proving Grounds in early September 2012 and performed some night testing. This testing process was filmed and Maserati Maserati has released this film for us to see. Along with seeing the Quattroporte in action, we also get an earful of what to expect from the sedan. Unfortunately, we do not get an earful of the twin-turbo six-cylinder pumping away, but there is plenty of information passed along.

Fisker Karma

Few car companies can’t wait for 2012 to end more than Fisker , as it combated quality issues, loan freezing and supplier bankruptcy throughout the year. Well, it looks like drama is going to follow the electric-car company into the New Year, unfortunately. As we already know, 338 Karmas were damaged during hurricane Sandy and some 16 units actually caught fire – not related to any faults by Fisker – and an insurance claim was submitted.

Apparently, the insurance company decided to void the claim after reviewing the claim. According to the report from Reuters, the issue becomes whether the damaged Karmas were “in transit” when they were damaged. In the case of “in transit” vehicles, sublimits beyond the $100 million limit on the insurance policy would apply.

In response to the denial, Fisker has filed a lawsuit against the company in an effort to get a court order for the insurance company – XL Insurance America – to pay the claim and for damages caused by the breach of contract. Hopefully Fisker can sort this out and get itself on track, as we were extremely impressed by the Karma on our test drive and we would hate to see any more hiccups in the vehicle’s production.
