  A coupe is a car body style with a close-coupled interior offering either two seats or 2+2 seating (space for two passengers up front and for two occasional passengers in the rear). Through the 1950s convertible models were sometimes called convertible coupes, but since the 1960s the term "coupe" has generally been applied exclusively to fixed-roof models. Coupes generally, but not necessarily, have two doors, although automobile makers have offered four-door coupes and three- and five-door hatchback coupes, as well.

Ever since the Nissan revealed the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo in June 2014, we’ve been wondering whether its aggressive design will serve as inspiration for the next-generation GT-R or not. We have hunch it will, but we don’t know to what extent, especially considering the Vision Vision ’s extreme body styling. Well, it seems the Japanese are taking the extreme route with the upcoming GT-R, which will be a toned-down version of the 2020 Vision concept.

That’s the word from Motoring, which claims a Nissan designer let slip a few juicy bits on the company’s plans for the next GT-R. "You can expect to see the next-gen GT-R get a toned-down version of the 2020 Vision GT car," the unnamed insider told the Australian outlet. Nissan’s decision to pull out all stops on the GT-R’s design comes straight from company CEO Carlos Ghosn, the report adds. Ghosn is apparently unhappy with current GT-R sales and thinks a more extreme design could draw more customers to showrooms.

Motoring also reiterates Nissan’s plans to turn the GT-R into an ultra powerful and fast hybrid supercar . The new Godzilla will reportedly get around 640 horses from its uprated turbocharged V-6 powerplant, with an extra 134 ponies coming from an electric motor. With a total output of nearly 800 horsepower and more than 730 pound-feet of torque, the next-gen GT-R sounds like a rig ready to compete against much more expensive hypercars.

G-Power continues to do wonders for the BMW M6 Gran Coupe . Because of its work on the model, it’s not surprising that the German tuner jumped at the chance to work on another M6 Gran Coupe.

The tuning firm’s new Bi-Tronik 5 system is a step up from the Bi-Tronic-III V2 kit that we previously saw on the M6 Gran Coupe back in 2013. Part of that "step up" is a noticeable bump in output that should ring music to the ears of M6 Gran Coupe owners. All the cursory modifications are also there, including upgrades for the wheels, brakes, and suspension system.

But the most noticeable and surprising modification happened on the car’s interior. Who knew G-Power had the knowledge to create a multi-functional cabin that features an eclectic yet effective package featuring fine leather, Alcantara, iPads , and an iMac that comes with Apple TV? It’s a pleasant shift from what we’re used to with G-Power and it’s a big reason G-Power’s program for the M6 Gran Coupe has our unbiased seal of approval.

Imagine if you could combine some Top Gear-style challenges with an epic supercar road trip like the Gumball 3000 , and then you sprinkled it all with a little bit of Forza magic and a dash of Tanner Foust. This event is the Forza Fuel Challenge, and it is here to celebrate the coming launch of the new Forza Horizon 2 video game on September 30th.

The teams consist of a pair of journalists and famous YouTube content creators. There is one of each piled into eight supercars that include the likes of the Audi R8, and the Lamborghini Aventador , and the new Lamborghini Huracán leads the whole convoy. As you may know the Huracán is the new halo car for the Forza Horizon 2 game, and it represents the first time you can drive this new supercar in any video game .

The teams are currently bombing around southern Europe, and when they reach designated points on the route, they get to compete in several challenges. Whoever wins the most challenges in the end will win. The first round happened two days ago at Bologna, Spain and the challenge was called “Get To The Choppa.” The teams raced against a helicopter through a slalom course on an airfield.

You can watch the video after the break to see what this whole mess is about and watch the first challenge unfold. The second challenge happened yesterday, so we should have more videos of this exciting road trip soon.

The BMW Qualcomm i8 Safety Car had its moment in the spotlight during the inaugural Formula E Championship race in Beijing over the weekend. But outside of what we all saw, do we honestly know a whole lot about the i8 Qualcomm Safety Car that makes it different from other i8s ?

The obvious answer would be to point to all of its safety equipment, which is critical to its function as the series’ official safety car. But what we didn’t know was whether the i8 was up-to-task in a serious racing environment, even if it comes in the form of electric-powered race cars .

All our questions were answered in the lead-up to the race when Qualcomm’s Edward Van Boheemen and Pat Kusbel were invited to drive around the racetrack on-board the i8 Safety car driven by Nelson Piquet Jr.

During the entire ride, the two Qualcomm engineers were asked to explain how they brought Qualcomm’s inventions into cars. It seemed like a fairly easy question for Van Boheemen and Kusbel given their backgrounds. But what both didn’t expect was Picquet Jr. treating the i8 Qualcomm Safety Car like a real racer, blasting it around the track while the two aimlessly tried to answer the questions posed to them.

It’s hilarious to watch these engineers attempt to get their points across while the i8 flings them all around.

Rumored to break cover at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS is still somewhat of a mystery. Sure, we’ve seen it stretching its legs on the road and track in several spy shots and video footage, but very we know few details besides its exterior appearance. The GT3 RS’ big conundrum is what lurks under the rear bonnet. Is the mother of all GT3’s going turbo? The rear fenders obviously back this scenario, but why isn’t Porsche saying anything? Guess we’ll find out soon enough. Meanwhile, word on the street has it the upcoming GT3 RS is the second-fastest Porsche ever to lap the Nurburgring track after the 918 Spyder .

Yes, folks, the redesigned GT3 RS is quicker than the mighty GT2 RS , a sports car we’ve been missing ever since the Germans discontinued it in 2012. According to Zero2Turbo, the GT3 RS lapped the "Green Hell" in only 7 minutes 20 seconds, making it four seconds faster than the 911 GT2 RS that established its incredible 7-minute 24-second benchmark on the ’Ring in 2010. This claim isn’t official, so make sure you keep them salt shakers within reach, but it’s a lap time that’s realistic for a turbocharged GT3 RS.

For the record, the benchmark would make the RS-badged sports car quicker than supercars like the Maserati MC12 , Pagani Zonda F Clubsport and the Koenigsegg CCX . Impressive doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo is stepping down from his post on October 13th, but before he hands over his Ferrari access cards, the man is going out in a blaze of glory by unveiling a limited-edition Ferrari that will be exclusively sold in the U.S.

There will only be 10 examples of this special Ferrari so yeah, it’s limited alright. But more importantly, it’s also ridiculously expensive. How expensive, you ask? Try $3.2 million, which is the roughly the equivalent of buying a Ferrari LaFerrari and having enough change to score Bugatti Veyron .

Auto News is reporting that the yet-to-be-identified model will be inspired by America, including a predominantly blue paint finish with matching white stripes. Those are the same colors the North American Racing Team that drove Ferraris back in the 60’s used. The same report also indicated that the F12 Berlinetta will likely be the basis of this unique model, sort of like the F12 SP America with a dramatically different body and interior.

I’m not sure what to expect out of this model other than what’s already been disclosed. It’s going to be rare. It’s going to be expensive. And oh, by the way, all 10 units are already sold. Yup. They’re all sold out.

We expect the new Ferrari to make its debut in Los Angeles on October 12th, 2014 during a gala dinner to celebrate the Italian automaker’s 60th anniversary in America. It’s also the day before di Montezemolo steps down so quite literally, this launch will be his swan song with the Prancing Horse. Hard to imagine how you can top that one, Mr. Sergio Marchionne.

The Formula E Championship kicked off in spectacular style over the weekend, featuring a last-lap crash between the race leaders Nicolas Prost and Nick Heidfeld that gift-wrapped the historic win to Lucas di Grassi. That’s what everybody’s talking about and rightfully so. But the inaugural Formula E race also saw the BMW i8 take center stage as the series’ official safety car.

Isn’t it fitting that a championship among electric-powered race cars would have a low-emission, hybrid sports car like the i8 serving as its safety car?

The BMW Qualcomm i8 Safety Car, as it’s officially known, was joined by its little brother, the BMW i3 , which also performed duties as the series’ official medical car and extraction car. Might as well keep it in the family!

True to form, the i8 Safety Car ended up taking part in a busy and action-packed race, none more dramatic than the hellacious crash in the last lap of the race. While jockeying for the lead, Prost’s Renault made contact with Heidfeld’s Venturi, sending the latter into the barricades in one of the most spectacular crashes we’ve seen this year. Fortunately, both Prost and Venturi escaped the accident in relatively unscathed.

At the very least, it gave us a good preview of how exciting the new FIA Formula E Championship can be. The BMW i8 Safety Car already knows that after only one race manning the track.

The Porsche 911 started its run back in 1963 - and oh what a run it is -, but it wasn’t until 1999 that a GT3 version was offered up for our ravenous consumption. It came to complete the series of performance vehicles that started back in 1973 with the 911 RS, a model that was capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and to 100 mph in 13 seconds. Why the short history lesson? Well, the new generation GT3 has just made its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and would be nice to make a comparison between the things that were and the things to come.

The new GT3 is lighter and more powerful than the model it replaces, and it brings innovative features like the first active rear wheel steering in a production Porsche. There is a bad news too unfortunately: the new GT3 will only be offered with a PDK transmission - at least for now!

There’s been a lot of talk about Ford’s upcoming Shelby GT350 , especially in regards to what engine might find its way under the hood. At some point, word on the street pointed toward the next Shelby carrying either a twin-turbo, 5.0-liter V-8 or an updated version of the 5.8-liter eight-banger found in the 2014 Shelby GT500 . Those rumors went down the drain in September 2014, when Ford’s own parts website leaked some precious information, including that the GT350’s powerplant will displace 5.2 liters with no forced induction whatsoever.

Was that enough to quench our thirst for GT350-related details? Heck, no! But, fortunately, the folks over at Motor Trend did some digging to find out the precise configuration of the mill Ford is planning for the GT350. And as it turns out, the upcoming muscle car will get its juice from a flat-plane crankshaft V-8. It’s a bit tricky when it comes to vibrations, the report adds, which is why development has been a little slow, but it appears Ford’s SVT division found a way around these problems by fitting the pony with a host of heavy-duty parts.

The engine can now spin at 7,500 rpm, which brings it close to what the initial GT350’s capabilities. Add an output that’s rumored to be close to the 600-horsepower mark, and we have a neck-snapping rig in development.

The crisp, cold air caught me off guard when I stepped from the hotel into the staging area where Lexus had filed a handful of its newest creations into two lines, prepped for a drive through the lush countryside that envelopes New York’s Hudson Valley. The brisk air might not have been what this Floridian was used to in mid-September, but once behind the wheel of the 2015 Lexus RC F, things became familiar.

Though I’d not sat in Lexus’ two-door, rear-drive sports coupe a day in my life, the interior was an immediately recognizable place, harking back to my time in the 2014 IS 350 F-Sport. The controls fell in the same position, the infotainment screen showed the same Enform system, even the overall design looked like I’d accidentally sat in the wrong Lexus.

And that’s not a bad thing.

While there’s plenty of IS flavor in the new RC, there’s even more that’s unfamiliar. The beautifully stitched sports seats, the reworked gauge cluster, and the center console arrangement are all new, not to mention the 2+2 seating configuration.

Slipping the eight-speed automatic into gear, the faintly audible rumble of the RC F’s 5.0-liter V-8 mumbled at a lower tone. Our entourage of journalists was off to conquer a two-hour drive before arriving at our destination, Monticello Motor Club.
