Rhys Millen Racing will be entering a new season of the Global RallyCross Championship with a new partner in tow. Oh, and they’re also bringing along the Hyundai Veloster with them to build on last year’s fourth place finish.
RMR is building on a new partnership with Disney for the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship and they’re set to compete this season with a unique Veloster Rally Car that comes with a specially wrapped livery featuring Disney’s new racing-themed TV series, Motorcity.
Just in case you don’t know, Disney scored huge on the Cars franchise and they’re branching out with a spin-off TV series. So what better way to promote a racing themed TV series than to have it promoted on an actual race car. That’s exactly what RMR and Disney were looking for when they tied up to plaster the Veloster rally car with the Motorcity livery.
As far as the car itself is concerned, the number 12 Veloster will be powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 500 horsepower and is mated to an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission. In addition, the car will also carry a new custom suspension and a new set of 18" HRE wheels wrapped in 245/40-18 Hankook Racing tires. Stopping power comes from 14" Alcon brake rotors and six piston Alcon calipers.
The Motorcity-wrapped RMR Veloster Rally Car will be driven by Stephan Verdier, who is personally looking to improve on last year’s fourth place finish. Despite having one of the coolest cars on the grid, Verdier will have his hands full this season competing against some pretty staunch rally heavyweights, including Tanner Foust, Ken Block, and Travis Pastrana.
At the very least, though, he’s going to have an entire demographic of kids rooting him on.
Whether you’re a kid or not, the name "Walt Disney" should instantly ignite a certain amount of joy. We’ve all been flipping through the television channels and stopped at a Disney cartoon just for a few minutes. Disney has been around for years bringing that kind of long-lasting joy for people, and now they are bringing it once again with the new additions to the Walt Disney World Speedway.
If people were waiting for a chance to see the Cars 2 characters in real life, then the Goodwood Festival of Speed is the perfect opportunity to do so. Starting on June 30,2011 through to July 3, 2011 in the UK, Lightning McQueen and his new secret agent accomplice, Finn McMissile - voiced by legendary actor Sir Michael Caine -, will be racing at the festival.
During the event, the two Disney / Pixar life-size celebrity race cars will be on hand to entertain anyone from the ages of five to 55. The two key Cars 2 characters will appear at Goodwood three weeks before the latest movie from the legendary Pixar Animation Studios is released in UK cinemas on July 22, 2011. However, before all of that goes down, fans of the Cars franchise over in the U.S. will be able to watch the movie when it hits theaters on June 24, 2011!
In the middle of all the marketing and promotion surrounding Cars 2, the second installment of the Cars franchise by Disney and Pixar, we sometimes need to step back a little and try to filter out all the information we’ve been getting.
The movie isn’t scheduled to hit theaters for another month - it opens June 24 - but it feels like we’ve been seeing promos, trailers, and what not for what feels like six months now. But if you’re one of those people that can’t get enough of all of it, we have a nice treat for you: the trailer of Cars 2 presented in LEGO.
Yep, you read that exactly. LEGO. The work was done by a group of people that apparently knew how to work those LEGO blocks to recreate the trailer of Cars 2 in all its entirety using only these blocks to build everything. It’s about as cool as any ’recreated’ trailer we’ve seen in a long time and actually makes us look forward to the movie even more, despite all the buzz we’ve seen and heard about it.
Pixar has released its final trailer video for the new Cars 2 just a month before the movie will be released in theaters. This trailer also incorporates some official specifications of some of the movie’s main characters, including Lightning McQueen’s competition for the World Grand Prix.
Our favorite little red racer is Lightning McQueen with his 750 HP V8 engine. This engine can get the champion from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 200 mph. For the sequel, Lightning’s competition gets pretty stiff with Francesco Bernoulli, who also develops 750 HP, but can hit a top speed of 220 mph. His 0-60 mph sprint is also significantly better with a 2.5 seconds time. Guess Lightning McQueen will have to have a few tricks up his sleeve to pull this one off.
Make sure you check out Cars 2 when it hits theaters June 24, 2011!
When Prince William extended his hand and proposed to Kate Middleton, he probably wasn’t thinking too much about the insane merchandising opportunities that would follow such an act. It seems everyone is getting in on the royal wedding action, from Project Kahn and their Maybach 57 Wedding Commemorative down to Disney and their new vehicles in Cars 2.
In honor of Prince William and his royal family, Disney has added a few new vehicles to their lineup. Meet Prince Wheeliam, a late-model Bentley Continental, and The Queen, a vintage car sporting a classy tiara. The Queen’s vintage look was chosen by looking through archives to find the vehicles the real-life Queen actually rode in around her Coronation.
Character Art Director, Jay Shuster, said: "Specifically with The Queen’s design it took some careful stepping as we, of course, were on hallowed ground emulating a nation’s sovereign as a car. The Queen’s design in our film is inspired by the elegant lines and paint schemes of British car designs of the finest vintage."
"We spent much energy on these designs de-emphasising details such as driving lamps and grilles so that the absolute read of the characters eyes and mouth can convey with maximum clarity: allowing the car to act. Official crests and shields adorn her much in the same way they did her cars in reality. I have to say we spent weeks on perfecting the tiara she wears in our film. Our special effects then made sure each diamond had a translucency and depth to refract the light just so."
Be sure to check out Prince Wheeliam and The Queen when Cars 2 hits theaters on June 24, 2011.
As if we haven’t had enough hype and publicity for Cars 2, Pixar apparently isn’t done with promoting the second installment of their hit movie franchise. We’ve already seen a number of trailers and sneak peeks of the movie, as well as introductions to some of the movie’s new characters. Now, we have posters. Lots of ‘em.
The retro-looking posters promote not just the movie, but in their own high-octane world, the international competition called the World Grand Prix.
It’s a movie that’s sure to grab the attention of both kids and adults, alike and will also provide auto enthusiasts like us the perfect opportunity to relive our childhoods, especially the ones that involved cartoon cars engaged in some good old fashion racing amidst a backdrop of international espionage.
The movie is set to be released on June 24,2011, a little over two months from now. But seeing as Disney and Pixar are seemingly going through great lengths in hyping and promoting this movie, the palpable anticipation and buzz surrounding Cars 2 is slowly building up and for a lot of us, June 24 can’t come soon enough.
Even with Cars 2 not set to hit theaters until the middle of the year - June 24, 2011, to be exact - Disney and Pixar have taken to great lengths in promoting the sequel to the hit car-themed CGI movie.
Last weekend at WonderCon, the PR folks behind the Cars 2 unveiled an elaborate promotional gimmick, pretty much setting up how you can watch a the latest sneak peek of the highly anticipated movie. If you didn’t bother to attend the event, here’s how the set-up worked:
At WonderCon, the promoters displayed three cars just outside the convention center that promoted the Twitter account @ChromeLeaks and invited everyone to check out the account. Once inside, a subsequent link was given for what appears to be an old and supremely cheesy used car dealer advertisement. But once you go past the commercial’s corniness, you would have probably noticed that the commercial isn’t what it seems. Try going through the entire 57-second ad and...voila!...you get a link directing you to the newest Cars 2 promo, one featuring British secret agent Finn McMissile driving for his life against a bunch of evil auto-goons.
We’ve spared you the trouble of going through the whole sleuthing process to watch the new promotional video. Instead, we went ahead and posted the sneak peek of Cars 2 for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
Disney Pixar’s Cars 2 hasn’t even come out yet and top execs are already salivating over the next possible money-making scheme to hand over to us on a gold platter. Following the second trailer for Cars 2 is yet another trailer, but this time, it’s for the video game by the same name.
The object of the game is to become world class spies, like Lightning McQueen, his good buddy Mater, and the rest of the gang. This is achieved by training at the international spy academy, CHROME (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage) and taking on dangerous missions to become the fastest race car in the world. Gamers can also use their spy skills in action-packed combat racing and battle arenas while racing up to three of their friends.
Cars 2, the video game, will be released along with the movie in Summer 2011 and will be available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.
Whether you are a child or a child at heart, it seems that everyone can’t seem to wait for Cars 2 to be released. We can’t speed up the process any more than we can convince Ferrari to give us a 458 Italia, but we can give you another glimpse of what’s to come when the sequel hits theaters in June 2011.
In the new Cars 2, Lightning McQueen and his buddy Mater, head far away from Radiator Springs to compete in the very first installment of the World Grand Prix. But before actually competing they will also have to save the world from the bad guys. Just a typical day in the life of a race car driver, right?
During this crazy melting pot of race car driver meets James Bond meets goofy sidekick, Disney Pixar is also releasing a whole round of new characters ready to tickle our funny bone when the movie comes out in Summer 2011. Just another reason to welcome the heat this summer!
