Dodge’s roster of tuned-up vehicles headed for SEMA wouldn’t be complete without an intimidating presence, a gargantuan of sorts that looks all the more imposing when you add some customizations to it. This year, the 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel “Black and Tan’ fits that bill to a tee. Not content with the standard Durango trim, Dodge, together with tuner extraordinaire Mopar Underground, took the hulking SUV, outfitted it with trims, gave it a new dimensions, shored up its package, and shined it up really nice. The result is this monolithic beast of an SUV that’s been appropriately designated as the Durango Citadel “Black and Tan”. Continued after the jump. Photos of the new 2011 Dodge Durango have been coming out very slowly. Not that we’re in a huge hurry to see an updated version of a pretty awful vehicle. We’ve seen the exterior before, but today, Chrysler has released an image of the new Durango’s interior. The new Durango differs from the Jeep Grand Cherokee in a few very important ways. All the controls and gizmos are housed on the dashboard, which will give owners more room to store things in the center console. The two-tone leather interior is fairly nice and the extra lighting touches really set the car off. We like the fact that there is enough chrome to keep lovers of the material happy, but not too much to make it gaudy. Overall, it looks far more luxurious than the old model, or any other Dodge product currently on the market. We need to play around in it first, but it seems that Chrysler is taking its interior design seriously.
2011 Dodge Durango
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the newest generation Dodge Durango for 2011. From the exterior, it certainly has the look to compete with the competition in a very crowded marketplace. At the same time, our first impressions upon seeing the car’s image were that of uneasiness. We’re not quite sure what to make of it yet. For 2011, the Durango will ride on an all-new unibody platform. There will be three-rows of seating, but by the looks of the images, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of room in the final row. Buyers can choose from a new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 or a 5.7-liter V8. The V6 has a towing capacity of 6,200 pounds, while the larger V8 can tow around 7,800 pounds. All-wheel drive is offered with power engines. The interior was done by the same people who did such a wonderful job on the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, but at the moment, we don’t have any real good photos of it. Updated 11/02/2010: The new Dodge Durango will go on sale in four trim levels and two versions RWD and AWD: Express priced at $29,195 for the RWD version and $31,195 for the AWD version; Crew RWD priced at $33,195 and $35,195 for the AWD model; Crew RWD with CrewLux package $38,195 and $40,195 for the RWD version and Citadel RWD priced at $41,795 and $43,795 for the AWD version. The collective teaser scarring we all had to endure with Ford and those mind-numbingly frustrating teaser photos of the 2011 Explorer hasn’t stopped us from showing all of you a new batch of teaser photos. Yes, we’re gluttons for punishment like that. This time, though, these teasers are courtesy of the Chrysler Group and their latest offering under the Dodge brand, the 2011 Durango. We’ve already caught a glimpse of the soon-to-be released SUV courtesy of a teaser video released by Dodge and, unlike the wide-scoping – and oddly confusing - teaser photos of the Explorer, these photos are what teasers should look like: not too revealing and not too vague either. And yes, no photos of smiling company execs, too. These photos are actually part of a recent marketing campaign by Dodge that also includes the aforementioned teaser video and a recently launched 2011 Durango-dedicated website. As far as specs are concerned, the word is that it would come with either a Pentastar 280 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 for the standard unit and a 390 horsepower 5.7-liter Hemi V8 for the higher-end version. There’s no word yet on when the new Durango will make its world debut, but from what we’ve heard, the company is looking to roll out their new crossover possibly by the end of 2010.
2011 Dodge Durango Preview
Chrysler is preparing the launch of their brand new Durango SUV with the help of the usual car-maker games: teaser images and videos. In this video, images of the Durango filter through the screen with just enough lighting to get a taste of the car’s body. They are not exactly full figure revealing, but they are a lot better than the boring and slightly ridiculous images laid before us for the Ford Explorer. These few sneak peeks were revealed to highlight the design characteristics of the 2011 Dodge Durango, but we should see some more of the all-new three-row performance SUV in the coming weeks. As previously reported, the 2011 Durango will be built on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee platform which is also shared with the 2011 Mercedes ML-Class. It will be powered by the same engine as the Jeep model, meaning a Pentastar 280 HP 3.6-liter V6 and the 390 HP 5.7-liter Hemi V8 for the top version. Who would have ever thought that Twitter could actually be a real news tool? Not us, unless of course you want a follow a celebrity’s every move. Anyway, Chrysler has yet to show anything on the new Durango, which could be called the Magnum. Fortunately for all of us, some Twitter user snapped a photo of what appears to be the new Durango/Magnum and it doesn’t look too bad. The exterior hasn’t changed a whole lot and the front still has that big Dodge crossbar front end. All that aside, while it doesn’t look bad, it sure doesn’t look good. If this is the only "new" Dodge can come up with then we are in for a few long years. We like the look of the Jeep Grand Cherokee far more than this SUV. Expect the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 and 5.7-liter Hemi V8 to be the engine options when this thing hits Chrysler showrooms in 2011. Ralph Gilles talks about Dodge’s future
During a conference room table in Chrysler Group LLC’s headquarters, Ralph Gilles talked about Dodge’s future. According to him, the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is just the beginning. It will be followed by a slew of new or redesigned vehicles. He said that the new Charger and a new crossover will arrive this fall while a new Durango will arrive this November, but most likely featuring a new name. A new Viper is also a possibility for 2012, so it seems the company has "a lot going on." For the new Charger the company is looking to get "a higher-power version of the Pentastar V-6 with unique power rating." "The brand is becoming hipper already. And the brand is getting controversial, in a good way. We’re really starting to smell different, act different. We showed up a few weeks ago at the super bike event in Utah. Dodge is currently under intense preparation for their next generation Durango, that, according to a leaked production list, will go into production on November 8, 2010 at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan. The 2012 Durango will be built on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee platform which is also shared with the 2011 Mercedes ML-Class. It will be powered by the same engine as the Jeep model, meaning a Pentastar 280 HP 3.6-liter V6 and the 390 HP 5.7-liter Hemi V8 for the top version. Rumors say that the new Durango will also get a Fiat diesel engine. A name change to the 2012 SUV is also expected. As of late, Chrysler has yet to mention the Durango name. They’ve been calling this 2012 model the "full size CUV". Rumors have been circulating around the Magnum name.
