The Dodge Nitro is a compact SUV that started production back in 2006 as a 2007 model. The Nitro shares a platform with the second generation Jeep Liberty, but is lower, longer, and wider. The great thing about the Nitro is that it has a big cargo hold that is larger thanks to the squared off shape of the exterior of the vehicle.
The Nitro comes in two trim levels: the SE and SXT. These trims are offered with premium clothed trimmed seats or available leather trimmed seats in the SXT, six speakers, and standard front row active head restraints. Power comes from either a 3.7L V6 producing 210 HP and 235 lb-ft of torque or a 4.0L V6 delivering 260 HP and 265 lb-ft of torque.
According to the Detroit Free Press newspaper, Chrysler has issued a recall for 80,000 Dodge Nitro and Jeep Wrangler vehicles. The vehicles’ engines can stall. According to the automaker, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received about 180 complaints about the problem. Apparently, the problem is due to an unexpected, though brief, of interruption of electrical power to the engine.

Oups! Tom LaSorda, Chrysler’s CEO got upset after Consumer Reports made their evaluation over the Sebring and the Dodge Nitro. As he says the company underestimated its competitors, set standards too low in some areas and was not where it needed to be in areas such as fuel economy, interior quality, and limiting noise and vibration.

Chrysler has announced that they unveil the Dodge Nitro Panel Wagon at SEMA Motor Show starting October 31st to November 3rd. The Nitro Panel Wagon features windowless side panels and a flat load floor.

Dodge will unveil two hot-rod versions of its new Nitro SUV at the annual fall SEMA show in Las Vegas, including a Hemi-powered edition with 22-inch wheels and tires. Also on display will be the Dodge Challenger Super Sport concept.
