How can you run away from this police truck without peeing in your pants? The sheer sight of it rumbling towards you from the rear-view mirror is reason enough to just give up and pull over.

The Ram Special Services Police Truck is the latest in Chrysler's growing portfolio of police vehicles. Following the overwhelmingly positive reaction given to the Dodge Charger Pursuit by law enforcement and municipal administrators, the Special Services Police Truck takes the reins as the big brother police truck that will run down any fleeing criminal.

Based on the Ram 1500->ke220, the truck combines durability, reliability, and crime-fighting capabilities in one package.

It's got pretty much everything that law enforcement agencies would want in a police truck, including a unique wiring harness that was specifically engineered to endure the heavy loads of the radar, computer, lighting, and radio equipment police officers will need when they're out and about on the road.

Police Features

The Special Services Police Truck was built to handle the weight of optional ballistic protection, which means that it means some serious business. RAM made sure that this police truck can handle all the rigors of severe-duty that police trucks are exposed to. The Ram 1500 comes with 100,000-mile sparkplugs and a larger oil cooler to protect the engine during stop-and-go operations that most first responders are subjected to.

In addition to that, the police truck also includes a 220-amp alternator and a unique wire harness that's capable of providing power, ground, and fusing for a variety of law enforcement lighting, siren, computer, modem, radar, or camera systems. The truck also has a Power Distribution Center (PDC), which comes with fusing and relays for circuits contained in the wire harness, allowing for power to be supplied for the truck's camera, computer, modem, and printer systems.

There's also a unique instrument panel that carries a certified speedometer with engine hour and idle hour meter and a 110-volt inverter. A full-face steering wheel is also part of the entire program, as is the special headliner with an auxiliary dome lamp that sits over stain-repellent cloth bucket seats in the first row and a vinyl bench in the second row.

Performance

Befitting a truck of its stature, the Ram Special Services Police Truck will be powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with Fuel Saver Technology, a six-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel-drive with standard ESC. The engine produces an output of 390 horsepower and 407 lb/ft of torque, contributing to a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs, a payload of 1,455 lbs, and a GCWR of 15,500 lbs.

"The Ram 1500 Special Service Truck has been engineered to handle the severe demands of Law Enforcement," said Peter Grady, Vice President of Network Development and Fleet, Chrysler Group LLC.

"The same characteristics also make it and excellent choice for the Public Works, Maintenance, Engineering and Fire Departments. This package expands our portfolio of hardworking vehicles available to state and local governments."

Pricing

No word yet on how much one is going to cost, although it's apparently obvious that regular Joes like us can't own one.
