With the 2013 Chicago Auto Show being just around the corner, is no surprise that the list of models to be displayed in there is getting bigger by the day. The latest announcement comes from Dodge->ke28, which will bring a very cool Challenger->ke249 R/T Redline Edition to the show.

The new R/T Redline continues from where the Challenger Rallye Redline left off last year and can be built on either R/T or R/T Plus models. While the previous Rallye Redline edition was offered with a V-6 engine, the new version features a V-8 engine under its hood -- making it more powerful and faster than the previous Rallye Redline version.

The model will be distinguished by some of the same things that the Rallye version was, but there are some twists added to the R/T version that make it stand out.

Competition

<2014 Ford Mustang GT->https://www.topspeed.com/cars/ford/2014-ford-mustang-ar138577.html]

As we are talking about a Challenger, the list of competitors is pretty clear to everyone. The first model on the list is of course Ford Mustang, and taking under consideration the price of the new Redline edition, we will refer to the Mustang GT version.

It is priced at $30.750, which is competitive with the new Challenger edition, but it is considerable more powerful, as its 5.0-liter engine that delivers a total of 420 horsepower -- 35 horsepower more than the Challenger. Unfortunately, Ford hasn’t released the official 0-to-60 time for the 2014 mustang, but we assume it will be nearly the same 4.7-second run the 2013 GT had. This means the Mustang will put the mid-5-second Challenger R/T Redline to shame to 60 mph.

2013 Chevrolet Camaro

Next there is the Chevrolet Camaro. Because of the price, we are going to talk about the 1SS version. Priced at $32,635, the Camaro 1SS is powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that delivers 426 horsepower when mated to a manual transmission or 400 horsepower when combined with an automatic one. The Camaro SS can hit 60 mph in as low as 5 seconds. This puts the Challenger R/T Redline a half-second behind the Camaro SS.

Conclusion

The new Dodge Challenger R/T Redline offers indeed a pretty impressive list of standard features, but as you can see, you can get more powerful and quicker muscle cars for the money. Of course, we will have to admit that the new Redline package makes it look better than ever, but we are wondering if it’s the look a customer really wants for when buying a muscle car. We’ll take power over looks any day of the week.
