Winter is upon us and Dodge->ke28 has launched a special-edition Charger specially developed for all driving conditions. The Dodge Charger AWD Sport will be offered with a choice of two engines – a V-6 and a V-8 – plus an updated exterior look.

As it name suggests, the new Charger AWD Sport will be offered with a new "Sport Mode" that will allow driver to change transmission’s gears a little bit quicker. The model will comes with a specially designed gloss-black split-crosshair grille, a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels in gloss black, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters with “Sport Mode” and a new rear spoiler.

The new special edition Charger will be built on the 2013 SXT, SXT Plus, R/T and R/T Plus models, and will carry a slight price increase over their respective base.

Exterior and interior

On the exterior, the new Charger AWD Sport model will feature a new gloss-black-painted split-crosshair grille and grille surround, plus a new rear spoiler painted in the same color as the rest of the body. The car sits on a new set of 19-inch polished-aluminum wheels wrapped in all-season performance tires.

On the inside, Dodge will include the company’s first application of steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and sport mode transmission calibration. The company also installed new sports seats wrapped in either black cloth, or premium black or red heated Nappa leather.

The model will also be offered with a new Beats Audio technology that includes:

Engine

The 2013 Dodge Charger AWD Sport will be offered with a choice of two engines: a V-6 and a V-8. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is now comes with a new sport-tuned dual exhaust system and cold-air induction system that has increased the output to a total of 300 horsepower. The 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine delivers a total of 370 horsepower and a peak torque of 395 pound-feet.

Both engines will be offered with the segment-exclusive active transfer case and front-axle-disconnect system to improve real-world fuel economy. Thanks to this system, the AWD system will only be used when it is actually required; in all the other situations it is automatically disconnected, which helps save some fuel.

The new Charger AWD Sport will also be offered with a "Sport mode" that allows gears to be changed quicker.

The 2013 Dodge Charger AWD Sport will go on sale in the first quarter of 2013. Prices will be as follow:

Competition

The list of competitors will include the usual Nissan Maxima and Ford Taurus. The 2012 Maxima is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that delivers a total of 290 horsepower -- 10 ponies less than the Charger V-6 model. Also, the 2012 Maxima does not offer an AWD version and it is a little bit more expensive that the Charger at $34,450.

The 2013 Taurus is also a little less powerful than the new Charger: it is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that delivers a total of 290 horsepower. On the other hand, Taurus is the cheapest model from all the three models at $26,600.
