2011 Mercedes SLR Black Arrow by Edo Competition

It was only a few days ago that we revealed the incredible package provided by Edo Competition for the Koenigsegg CCR and now it seems as if that project was a mere warmup for the tuning firm. Edo Competition has now come out with their "Edo SLR Black Arrow" program for the Mercedes SLR . Their package includes a significant power increase, as well as impressive exterior and interior modifications.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the Mercedes SLR "Black Arrow" looks to have taken its inspiration from the 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLR "722 Edition" , but it sure does take a lot of paint to make it obvious. Splattered along the doors and hood is the number "722" in bright red. This number refers to what’s bucking underneath the hood. The SLR’s V8 engine and supercharges it up to 722 HP, up from the standard 650 HP. With the new output, the Black Arrow will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, while top speed is limited to 214 mph.

Exterior and Interior

As previously mentioned, the number "722" is displayed on the hood and doors of the Mercedes in red paint, but there are also red stripes moving up the side of the sports car to the front. These red accents further stand out with the flat back paint job on the rest of the exterior. The exterior is completed with a new high-performance exhaust system and new 21" racing wheels wrapped in high-performance tires.

The interior combines leather, carbon fiber, and Alcantara to create a classic sporty appearance. The bucket seats are covered in leather/alcantara, the steering wheel is in Alcantara, and the shift paddles, dashboard, center console, and door panels are custom made in carbon fiber. The tuner also added a new custom sound system featuring navigation, phone, TV, and iPod integration, as well as a reversing camera.

In order to obtain the impressive 722 HP, the tuner had to work diligently under the hood. The supercharger drive ratio was modified and the ECU was remapped to accommodate the hardware changes. Next, Edo Competition added a revised intake system, new exhaust headers, high flow catalytic converters, and air filters. All of this work is absolutely worth it for the 722 HP at 7,100 rpm and 656 lb-ft of torque the Mercedes now produces. This will allow the Black Arrow to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and to 186 mph in 24.5 seconds. Top speed was electronically limited to 214 mph (up from the standard 205 mph).

The Mercedes SLR 722 is just perfect straight from the factory, so you can imagine why many tuners have left well enough alone with this car. That being said, there is another tuning package for the Mercedes that caught our eye.

Renntech was the first tuning company to tackle the sports car with its creative hand. Their package focused on improving the engine’s output and raised it to 722, matching that of Edo Competition. However, that is where the similarities end as Renntech did not bother with changing any of the exterior or interior work on the standard SLR.

I don’t like the design used here, the black and red style doesn’t give any attraction to me. But still obtaining such engine specification guess they have it for best.

I like the elements used within the car. It makes the look sportier. Why is it that the competition is with the SLS? They are both Mercedes. By the way, what do you think will be the pricing of this one?

Hey, I remember that this one was released a few months ago. And now it is definitely back with a vengeance. I really like the looks of this car, though I still need to get used to those markings.

Oh yes!It seems that Edo Competition made an awesome modification on the performance of this car. 722 HP for a V8 technology is quite impressive as well as the top speed.

Wow! Although this car has gull wing. I have to admit that I was impressed with the figure performance of this car, it seems that it doesn’t affect the speed of the car!

Yeah, I also love the way they did the gullwings on this one. I really don’t like the one on the SLS AMG, it feels a bit too old for me.

I agree, the gullwing doors are surely the biggest attraction for this one. I really prefer this style over the one that they have implemented on the SLS AMG.

For me I love the modification in the exterior the whole package is great! I think the gullwing is responsible for its glowing look,

Well, the good things is the gullwing don’t have an effect on the engine performance of the car. Its figure is amazing when we take out a look on its weight.

Those red accents really look great on the car. But ui wish they would let customers decide on the graphics here. I, for one, am not really fond of those numbers that they have on the sides of the car.

This car is really beautiful and I hope none of the owners crash it right away...*cough cough* umm....Porche GT3 owners listening??

Wow! I like the matte color of this car. The whole exterior looks amazing plus those gull wings! I do hope that their is a upgrade with the speed performance of the car.

Seriously, I would prefer this one over the SLS anytime,. Those doors especially are cool looking. And the work they did on this one really makes it even more interesting.

Extremely adorable! I would say that those gullwing add to the coolness and aggressiveness of the SLR! I cant stop adoring this car!

This one is definitely a looker. Black really works well with any car, but it certainly made a right match on this one. And the red really makes good accents.
