It was only a few days ago that we revealed the incredible package provided by Edo Competition for the Koenigsegg CCR and now it seems as if that project was a mere warmup for the tuning firm. Edo Competition has now come out with their "Edo SLR Black Arrow" program for the Mercedes SLR->ke566. Their package includes a significant power increase, as well as impressive exterior and interior modifications.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Mercedes SLR "Black Arrow" looks to have taken its inspiration from the 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLR "722 Edition", but it sure does take a lot of paint to make it obvious. Splattered along the doors and hood is the number "722" in bright red. This number refers to what's bucking underneath the hood. The SLR's V8 engine and supercharges it up to 722 HP, up from the standard 650 HP. With the new output, the Black Arrow will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, while top speed is limited to 214 mph.

Exterior and Interior

As previously mentioned, the number "722" is displayed on the hood and doors of the Mercedes in red paint, but there are also red stripes moving up the side of the sports car to the front. These red accents further stand out with the flat back paint job on the rest of the exterior. The exterior is completed with a new high-performance exhaust system and new 21" racing wheels wrapped in high-performance tires.

The interior combines leather, carbon fiber, and Alcantara to create a classic sporty appearance. The bucket seats are covered in leather/alcantara, the steering wheel is in Alcantara, and the shift paddles, dashboard, center console, and door panels are custom made in carbon fiber. The tuner also added a new custom sound system featuring navigation, phone, TV, and iPod integration, as well as a reversing camera.

Engine

In order to obtain the impressive 722 HP, the tuner had to work diligently under the hood. The supercharger drive ratio was modified and the ECU was remapped to accommodate the hardware changes. Next, Edo Competition added a revised intake system, new exhaust headers, high flow catalytic converters, and air filters. All of this work is absolutely worth it for the 722 HP at 7,100 rpm and 656 lb-ft of torque the Mercedes now produces. This will allow the Black Arrow to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and to 186 mph in 24.5 seconds. Top speed was electronically limited to 214 mph (up from the standard 205 mph).

Prices

Edo Competition has yet to reveal pricing details for the Mercedes SLR Black Arrow, but we're sure that if you give them a call, they'll be more than happy to oblige.

Competition

The Mercedes SLR 722 is just perfect straight from the factory, so you can imagine why many tuners have left well enough alone with this car. That being said, there is another tuning package for the Mercedes that caught our eye.

Renntech was the first tuning company to tackle the sports car with its creative hand. Their package focused on improving the engine's output and raised it to 722, matching that of Edo Competition. However, that is where the similarities end as Renntech did not bother with changing any of the exterior or interior work on the standard SLR.
