A short while ago the exotic Italian automaker Ferrari announced a new program that would allow clients to create their own custom model right from the factory in Maranello. This is perhaps a tribute to Jim Glicknehaus’s one off Ferrari P4/5 that is nothing more than a re bodied Enzo made to look like the classic race car. One of the fruits of the new cliente program’s labor is this, the P540 Superfast Aperta specially built for one lucky Ferrarista here in America. Based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, this coach built Ferrari gets its inspiration from the classic Carrozzeria Fantuzzi-designed golden open air Ferrari that was built for the 1968 Fellini film, Toby Dammit. Designed by Pininfarina and built at Ferrari’s workshop, the client was directly involved in each and every stage of his dream car’s development. Just like when collectors turned Daytona coupes into spiders back in the 1960s, the P540 underwent significant chassis strengthening when the 599 lost its top while keeping weight gain under fifty pounds, thanks to extensive use of lightweight carbon fiber. As a testament to Ferrari’s latest specialty customer program, the Superfast Aperta went from initial sketches to a fully functional road legal custom super car in only 14 months, simply amazing. Press release after the jump. Press release The first shake-down has been held at Fiorano of a very special one-off, the P540 Superfast Aperta, built for an American client. The car, the second in a new Special Projects programme created by Ferrari to meet requests from the most discerning clients and collectors to create truly unique models, is based on the 599 GTB Fiorano and was inspired by a Carrozzeria Fantuzzi-designed Ferrari built specifically for the 1968 Fellini film, Toby Dammit, itself inspired by one of the tales of Edgar Allan Poe. The P540 Superfast Aperta’s proud new owner, Edward Walson, son of John Walson, the inventor of cable TV, approached Ferrari in 2008 to produce a modern reinterpretation of the gold-coloured car in the film. “I had always dreamed of designing sports cars,” Walson explains, “and when I saw this film the decision came of its own accord: one day I would have ‘my’ Ferrari.” Technical specifications

Curiosity 8 comments: Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta I have to admit that the 599 is quite an impressive production and up to know I bet everyone still drooling on its speed performance. I think the production of this vehicle is already killed but I bet it would be a high speed performing car.
That thing is absolutely beautiful! I think its the hottest evolution of the Chevrolet Corvette..design and price is nice as well..
Thank God they are only making one of these. Take the rear of the GranTurismo and the front of a 599GTB and you end up with this thing. The black and gold paint scheme doesnt help at all either.
Of course on the tune-up, I’m hands down on this car where there’s a lot of changes happen and all really nice. I’m expecting a body from Enzo but it’s like a Ferrari California body style. Also the matte looks extraordinary just like the version of Mercedes SLS AMG Desert Gold.
To tag this car as the "second from the special project" means a lot to expect on this car. As you may know, the maximum power of this car: 456 kW at 7600rpm and the maximum torque: 608 Nm at 5600rpm. Kinda curious on the history of this car where I’ve found out that it’s based on the story of Edgar Allan Poe.
