Underground Racing is no stranger to tuning up high-powered supercars and making them even more, well, powerful. Sounds a little like going a tad too overboard, doesn’t it? But when it comes to pure speed and unadulterated power, there are just people that can’t have enough of it. Granted, there’s always a cap for what is considered fast and what is considered dangerous, but these guys seem to be able to walk that very thin line carefully without compromising safety.

Having said that, the US-based tuning firm’s take on the Ferrari F430 Spider->ke390 is nothing short of remarkable. They may have left the exterior and interior untouched during the process, but with engine work as intricate and amazing as what they have done, who cares that they didn't change the look? The F430 Spider is gorgeous as it is anyway.

UPDATE 02/14/11: We've got a fresh batch of photos from Underground Racing and their high-powered, steel-bending Ferrari 430 Scuderia that was given their awe-inspiring Stage 3 upgrade, with over 1,000 horsepower. Granted, we've already drooled over this beast, but nothing gets us more nostalgic than seeing new photos of the finished product, armed and ready to pounce the streets with all those ponies under its hood. Check out the new pics in the photo gallery provided!

EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR

As we mentioned before, both the exterior and interior of the Ferrari F430 Spider remained largely untouched since Underground Racing focused all of its attention on the performance aspect of the supercar and how they could turn this 458 horsepower monster into a 1,000 horsepower legend.

PERFORMANCE

The Ferrari F430 Spider already has a 4,300 cc 90° V8 engine that produces 490 horsepower with a specific output of 114 hp/liter. Those are figures that are pretty powerful by themselves, but after adding a twin-turbo system on the car, Underground Racing really opened the floodgates on what this car is capable of achieving.

With their twin-turbo system in place, Underground Racing has laid out a four-stage system exclusively for the Ferrari F430. Not surprisingly, all four systems are classified into stages with Stage 1 being the basic set-up based on the F430’s stock engine. From there, it goes all the way up to the Race Version Turbo System, which, suffice to say, is the Mac Daddy of Underground Performance’s tuning program for the Ferrari sports car. For the Stage 1 Turbo System with the Stock Engine, the 430 Spider gets 650 wheel horsepower on pump gas – with 93 octane - and 800 wheel horsepower on race fuel.

On to the next level, the Stage 2 Turbo System with Modified Engine receives 850 wheel horsepower on pump gas and 1,150 wheel horsepower on race fuel.

After Stage 2, the Ferrari F430 enters the Stage 3 Turbo System where another bump in power is seen. In this stage, the sports car now receives 950 wheel horsepower on pump fuel and 1,250 wheel horsepower on race fuel.

After Stage 3 is complete, the highest level of Underground Racing’s F430 tuning package is unveiled, and this one is completely bananas. The Race Version Turbo System with a highly modified engine receives a staggering 1,000 wheel horsepower on pump fuel and 1,350 wheel horsepower on race fuel.

PRICING

All four packages for each stage of the Ferrari F430 tuning work by Underground Racing come with their own set of prices with Stage 1 being the cheapest and going all the way up to the Race Version Turbo System. All prices, of course, do not include the Ferrari F-430. For Stage 1, that’s going to cost you around $49,000. Stage 2 will set you back $79,000, which includes a 2-year/24,000km warranty. Stage 3 sees the price tag bump up another notch, this time all the way up to $94,000. Similar to Stage 2, this level will also net you a 2-year/24,000km warranty. And if you’re really pining for all the horsepower Underground Racing can produce you, the Race Version Turbo System is priced at $109,000 with a 2-year/24,000km warranty.

COMPETITION

We didn’t want to put Underground Racing’s stable of tuned-up supercars against one another so we steered clear of making any comparisons between them. That being said, Underground Racing’s tuning package for the Ferrari F430 Spider allows it to reach a level that’s only reserved for a select number of cars. Whether you call it the “Supercar Stratosphere” or the “1,000-Horsepower Club”, the members of this esteemed group are, well, limited. So with an modified engine that packs in as much as 1,000 horsepower, it’s a safe bet that this Ferrari F430 is right up there in the league of the Bugatti Veyrons->ke1112, Koenigsegg CCXR->ke567s, and Zenvo ST1->ke3693s of the world.
