As soon as the California T started revving its turbocharged, V-8 engine, we began to wonder how long will it take before Ferrari starts adding turbos across its entire lineup. Well, it appears all V-8s are set to receive forced induction over the next six years, as the Italians want to reduce their fleet CO2 emission by 20 percent by 2021.

That’s the word coming from Ferrari Powetrain Director Vittorio Dini, who said Maranello needs to reduce emissions by three percent each year and by 20 percent by 2021, Automotive News reports. To achieve this daring goal, the company will turbocharge its V-8 engines and develop hybrid technology for each V-12-powered supercar . Additionally, V-8 engine displacement is to decreased, meaning no unit larger than the current 3.9-liter V-8 will be available once Fezza retires the 4.5-liter unit.

Ferrari’s average CO2 emissions are currently about 270 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Ferrari is one of many manufacturer that obtained derogations from the European Environment Agency in recent years, alongside Aston Martin , Spyker , Koenigsegg , and Lotus . For the record, companies such as Fiat , Renault , and Peugeot average less than 120 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

We don’t have a Mark this week, he is off with Hyundai checking out some new cars for you fine people to read about later.

Of course we have a few viewer questions to answer, and we are also going to be Own, Drive, Burn. The 458 Speciale was a bit of a surprise when the details began leaking out in 2013, and we were in for an even bigger treat when it debuted during the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show with its 596 horsepower — 34 more horses than the base 458 — 398 pound-feet of torque, 200 pounds of weight loss, and three-second 0-to-60 mph time. Now on June 24th, 2014, rumors surfaced claiming that Ferrari is planning on removing the top from the 458 Speciale, creating a new, road- and track-ready Spider.

The news was broken by 4wheelsnews.com via "inside sources" within Ferrari, but the details behind the model remain a relative mystery for now. What we know for sure is that this model will weigh significantly less than the current 458 Italia Spider , carry the same engine as the Speciale Coupe and clip 60 mph in around three ticks of the second hand.

What seemed like an impossible scenario a couple of years ago might become reality within the next twelve months, as Ferrari is reportedly working on an entry-level version of the 458 Italia. That’s the word coming from Automobile, which claims the Italians are set to introduce a twin-turbo, 2.9-liter, V-6 engine, and create a more efficient and less expensive sports car based on the popular 458.

Shocked? You should be. Last time Ferrari used a V-6 engine in a road-going car it was 1974 in the soon-to-retire Dino . Since then, all V-6 units have motivated Formula One cars exclusively. It happened from 1980 through 1988 before FIA reintroduced V-6 power units to the sport for the 2014 season.

Details are rather scarce, but such a move would make a lot of sense given the market’s current shift to smaller, more efficient units. So what’s Ferrari hoping to achieve by rolling out an entry-level 458 ? Skip past the jump to find out.

The Special Projects division of Ferrari is an exclusive arm of the company that is capable of creating unique, one-off cars for prospective buyers who find the traditional models of the Prancing Horse to be a bit too plebeian. The SP team has created cars such as James Glickenhaus’s P4/5 Competizione . This exclusive customization division has been very busy lately. We are still trying to chase details on models like the SP FFX and the SP America , yet here Ferrari is with another new beauty, the F12 TRS. As you can maybe guess by the name, this latest unique machine is based on the new F12berlinetta .

This one-off exclusive was just unveiled last weekend in Sicily during the Ferrari Cavalcade. The F12 TRS was one of 90 cars that were included in this year’s event.

Updated 06/22/2014: The one-off Ferrari F12 TRS made its debut during the third edition of the Ferrari Cavalcade, which took place the weekend of June 22nd on Sicilian soil. The model was inspired by the 1957 250 Testa Rossa and was developed by Flavio Manzoni and the Ferrari Style Centre team.

Introduced to the public at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and launched for the 2013 model year, the Ferrari F12berlinetta quickly became one of the most desirable grand tourers on the market. The F12 came to replace Ferrari ’s previous 2-seat berlinetta, the 599 . Built around an aluminum space frame chassis, the F12 brought numerous improvements to the 599. as it was 20 percent more rigid and 150 pounds lighter, and the new chassis also allowed Ferrari to lower the car’s center of gravity by one inch. For 2014, the F12berlinetta has spawned a special edition coming all the way from China. Dubbed Polo Edition, this unique F12berlinetta was crafted by Ferrari’s first Tailor-Made Center in Asia Pacific and reaches into the spotlight to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Horse.

This new model was inspired by the game of polo (not the fancy golf shirts), a horseback team sport played in Asia for more than 2,000 years. The one-off F12 also pays tribute to the company’s passion for speed and racing. A prancing horse that celebrates horse racing, if you will.

The Ferrari FF grand tourer was presented in 2011 and launched for the 2012 model year. The FF name stands for "Ferrari Four," which hints at the vehicle’s four-seat interior and its four-wheel-drive configuration. Often described as a three-door shooting brake, the FF is Ferrari ’s first production all-wheel-drive model.

The four-wheel-drive system is an innovative unit engineered and patented by Ferrari. Dubbed 4RM, it is around 50 percent lighter than a conventional system. It splits the power between the four wheels as needed and it’s activated when the FF is driven in the "Comfort" or "Snow" modes. Otherwise, the FF functions as a rear-wheel-drive sports car .

Although it’s remained unchanged since its introduction, the FF can be customized via numerous personalization programs or Ferrari’s Special Projects division. Coming into 2015, the FF gains a special-edition model via Ferrari’s first Tailor-Made Center in Asia Pacific. Recently opened in Shanghai, China, the brand-new center showcased its potential with a couple of bespoke Ferraris, one of them being the FF Dressage Edition.

As an auto writer, I do get the chance to sit in some cool cars like the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder I drove in Gumball or the Nissan GT-R I reviewed, but what if you aren’t a writer and you still want to experience the thrust of a Ferrari? There are a few companies out there that do special track days and even daily rentals of exotic cars, but those experiences are usually thousands of dollars and you usually need to travel to a really big city or race track. What if you are one of the millions who just can’t tick all those boxes to try a car? I have a solution.

Gotham Dream Cars has a new program called Dream Car Sprint that may help you out. It’s a traveling program that visits nearly 50 cities around the country, and they set up a full autocross course for you to play on. The best part is the cost; $250. I have yet to find a cheaper way to bury your foot in the throttle of cars like the Ferrari F430 .

They have other more traditional programs with varying costs, but this traveling circus of horsepower sounds the coolest. They are coming to a local spot near me soon, and I am going to give it a shot. Keep your eyes here to see what I think about that.

After 16 years of wild road trips , the Gumball 3000 has developed quite a few traditions. One of those traditions is the end-of-rally awards ceremony. There are awards for cool cars, crazy stories and new drivers. Of all the awards handed out, none are as prestigious or coveted as the "Spirit of Gumball" award. The Spirit of Gumball is given to the team that does the best job of embracing the spirit of the rally. Winners should show dedication to having a good time and being part of the festivities. They should avoid negativity, push the boundaries a little bit, and above all, have lots of fun.This year the award went to Team Deadmau5.

The video above shows the finale of the awards and includes a look at Deadmau5 and his co-driver Tori Belleci of the MythBusters accepting their award; a gumball machine mounted on a massive chrome plinth. Sadly there is no footage of their car, a baby blue Ferrari 458 with Nyan Cat graphics on it.

Maximillian, Mr. Gumball himself , awarded the honor to Deadmau5 because of his contributions to the Gumball, and his nearly flawless attendance at all events and festivities. When compounded with the fact that this was his first Gumball experience, it only seemed right he should win.

As an expression of automotive fun, extravagance and camaraderie, the Gumball 3000 is an unsurpassed experience. Congratulations to Deadmau5 and Tori for making their mark on everyone who was part of this great event. I know I am happy I had the chance to meet them.
